  1. lol well no you can't go by numbers alone because you can't compare that over history as the game has changed so much. Remember Hasek in the 90's? Now he is just average in today's numbers. Or putting numbers on Patrick Roy in the playoffs, it doesn't work but there has never been a better playoff goalie.
  2. hmmm.... using what criteria then? Or do you mean top 10 of his playing days? And how long have you watched hockey, i have watched since 1973 just for reference.
  3. This is exactly my point. I have no disrespect to Lui or any other goalie not in HOF. My point is that as of right now unless things change, i don't think he is going in as there are a bunch of goalies that should be in but are avoided. That is a reality. They hold goalies on a different level than a flashy forward or defensemen. Tom Barasso immediately comes to mind with 1 calder, 1 vezina, 1 jennings, 1 first team all star, 2 stanley cups... i think that should get someone in but as of now no. Mike Vernon is another. And let's be realistic too, Billy Smith and Grant Fuhr got in because of Stanley Cups for the most part. They don't compare to Patrick Roy or Hasek, it was they were on a winning franchise team. I don't agree but that is just the way it is. And the way it currently is, i don't see Lui getting in without changes to the thinking of HOF voting members.
  4. I agree but name a goalie other than Tretiak who is in the HOF based on a hockey career besides the NHL.
  5. But there is not one goalie without a Vezina or Stanley Cups in HOF are saying he will be the first?
  6. Ok so what goalies internationally should we compare him to? Tretiak? Better yet other than Tretiak name a HOF goalie that has been voted in on events not in NHL.
  7. And so with these facts he gets into the HOF? Here are the inductees from the last 30 years... Dominic Hasek 6 Vezinas, 2 Pearsons, 2 Harts, 3 Jennings, 6 first team all star selections and 2 Stanley cups Ed Belfour 1 Calder, 2 Vezinas, 4 Jennings, 2 first team all star selections and 1 Stanley cup Patrick Roy 3 Vezinas, 5 Jennings, 3 Conn Smythes, 4 first team all star selections and 4 Stanley Cups Grant Fuhr 1 Jennings, 1 Vezina, 1first team all star selection, and 5 Stanley Cups Billy Smith 1 Vezina, 1 Jennings, 1 conn Smythe, 1 first team all star selection and 4 Stanley Cups Roberto Luongo 1 Jennings see the difference? So you really think someone will put him in this same class of goalies?? He is more like Joseph than any of these goalies!
  8. Likewise if Joseph was on a time that were back to back president trophy winners or had been on a good team instead of his Edmonton years, he is in the same boat. Didn't watch hockey then? He was also a 3 time Vezina nominee just like Lui is. Their careers are vey similar other than Joseph's playoff record is a lot better with lesser teams at the time.
  9. Here's the catch... Olympics, he only played in one, the other he was a backup. The one he played in (2010) he was not even best goalie of the tournament, that went to Ryan Miller who also was MVP of the whole tournament. So if it comes time to vote are they really going to take the olympics seriously for Lui? I somehow doubt it. Curtis Joseph is in the same boat with nothing notable in NHL awards and a better career percentage than Lui. There has barely been mention of him to the hall, not sure if they elect Lui on his twitter account personality maybe. Not once did Lui or Joseph receive a first team all star selection at year end, Lui did get second team three times. Now that's the media voting but a bunch of them also vote hall of fame. Not once was he or Joseph the best goalie in any one season. Goalies in the last 30 or 40 years elected all have multiple first team all star selections to their name. I don't see how he is going to get in unless things change drastically and a bunch of other goalies get in too.
  10. Ok so you agree he is not going to get elected to HOF? Great goalie otherwise... just not one of the all time greats.
  11. Not when you are talking about the HOF.... without a cup or multiple vezina trophies, no goalie has been inducted in a long time. I don't know why they hold the goalies to such excellence but they do. The bar is not nearly so high when they elect forwards or defensemen to the hall.
  12. Lol im not sure you would find an NHL'r that would agree with you on him being a plug! He certainly doesn't have the humour or character that Lui had though, that's for sure.
  13. Well i don't think he is half the man, Lui was pretty damn awesome for the most part (playoffs another story) It was impressive to see Miller jump in without hesitation! I have no doubt things would be different if we had Miller here during that time frame.
  14. No they won't actually because it's a ratio, sure he will get more wins but he also will have a pile more losses than Joseph. But i think the killer is that without a Vezina or Cup to his name he won't get in. If you look at goalies who have got in the last 30 or so years they all have multiple cups and Vezina trophies, Lui and Joseph have neither.
  15. Well considering Joseph with the similar results as Lui has never got any recognition in the hof yet I'm don't know how Lui will get in. Both are great goalies though.
  16. Well now he is officially 2nd all time in losses and the only one left to pass now is Brodeur who is another 40 or so losses ahead of him. I've said this before but i have a hard time thinking he is getting voted in to HOF especially now with having a slightly worse win/loss record than CuJo. Sad but i think both of these goalies will be overlooked as it seems goalies get in on Vezina and Stanley cup awards only.
  17. I think he is there for the next two seasons, after that his salary drops by 3.3 mill for 2018 and then a couple more mill the next season. I can't imagine him playing just for the fun of the game and getting a bit over 1 mill per season. I don't think we will see him play for 3 something million even.
  18. Especially with that iron ore mine at the headwaters... mmm good stuff!
  19. I'm not sure, Cujo has never been close yet and him and Lui have pretty similar careers. It seems goalies are judged differently for HOF consideration.
  20. It's hard to say as his last two starts have been stellar but he had no consistency before those. Hopefully he can pull it together this year and be consistent in the playoffs which he has always struggled with. I predict he will fall short of Plante and also have the dubious distinction of second most losses of all time by seasons end.
  21. Don't know what's going on with Lui but since the all star break he is a shadow of the goalie who had a great year going up to that point. They said since the break he has .894 save percentage and a 3.2 gaa. Tonight he just had a horrible collapse in last half of third period. The whole team did but Lui looked really rattled out there, have to be making those saves at this time of year. Interesting to see how the year finishes up.
  22. Montoya got steamrolled over by a Wild player and left the game.
