You have to have at minimum 4 good penalty killers at forward. This line-up means Bo, Miller, and Pearson have to kill penalties. Nevermind that none of them are even good at it, we don't want Bo and Miller used up on the PK. Unfortunately most of the guys battling for spots need to be good on the PK. Guys like Gadjovich, Lockwood, Big Mac and even Podz have a tough road to making the team since they are bottom six wingers that won't be on the penalty kill. AKA, the least important player on the team.

[PTO] Alex Chiasson with Canucks

We need a pk'er that plays center, we have about 14 more interesting wingers. -

It would be nice to just have a normal year with a good team to be excited about. -

And Quinn walks to Jersey for nothing. Gotta go long and buy ufa years or go short. -

At this point 3 year deals make the most sense for everyone involved. Obviously long term deals for both would be best, but that simply isn't reality. Under no circumstance should any deal that takes either player to ufa be on the table. -
The battle of the EV Trucks. Who will win?

My brother in-law to be put a deposit down for a Rivian a couple years ago when they first went up for pre-order. Last I heard he had no idea when he was getting it but I'm quite interested to check it out when he does. -
Not a lot to get excited about for rookie camp anymore. No tournament and no coverage.

We should be looking to move Myers and Miller after this year anyways. Get a lot of cap space and some good young assets/picks. Hopefully Woo and Podz are ready to step into their roles, but even if they aren't we should be looking for younger/cheaper options that are in our core's age group.

This is a tough one. Petey is the best player on this team, most teams and every team he's been on, but we don't know how to draft defensemen. So there's that. I still take Petey, but we have to get a premier young defensemen in return which makes any trade difficult. Unless you can get me Aho from Carolina, then I don't care about any logic.

It always seemed odd to me the obsession with forcing a small and not particularly fast team to try and play dump and chase. Our forecheck during the JB era has been fairly embarrassing. Things should be a little better this season hopefully, but this core has and will probably continue to be more suited to playing that puck possession style.

You can always tell Petey is disgusted by losing. Wish there was more of that mindset in the organization.

[Signing] Canucks re-sign Olli Juolevi
FlyLow_ replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Umm what... So we're going to have the guy that sucked at playing & coaching defense run the defense again, then have the guy that's known as a defensive guru run the powerplay?? What's next, Ian Clark is going to run the forwards? -

The key word there being EARLY in the season. Show me when he was a top pairing defender for a whole season on a playoff contender. Hell, he wasn't even top 4 on the Jets. -

The difference being Schmidt was 1 year removed from being a top pairing defender. Myers has never been one. He's not a top 4 d-man on a contender. I'll give credit where it's due, he was decent the last 2 months of the season. He's been brutal for the rest of his contract here so far. -
We haven't had a team that can forecheck in Benning's entire tenure here, you cannot be a top possession team without an excellent forecheck. That has to be one of the top priorities along with the defense. We may finally have the pieces required, but the top six is still quite small.

Also we'd have to retain at least 2 mill of Myers contract or throw in another high pick to move that contract. -
I could be wrong but think I'm just down the hill aways from you. Stay safe, this is not good.

[Discussion] Would you consider this?

With generational players in the next two drafts I would take the pics and rebuild. If we are trading Petey we are rebuilding. -
It won't be pretty, lots of games crammed together plus we have the worst travel already. It's a concern for sure, nevermind risk of injury at the olympics.
-
This is how I feel. I do think it's going to be an issue in the playoffs, but right now I'm more worried about the penalty kill. Sutter, Dickenson and Motte are our only good penalty killers. We still need another guy that is good on the penalty kill. We have guys like Bo, Miller and Pearson that can technically do it, but they aren't good at it and it's better for us if we can keep Bo and Miller off of the PK. If we can find a guy that's big/tough and also good on the PK, we can kill two stones with one bird. I know he's already signed, but we need a Trevor Lewis type for our last open spot.

[discussion] Time to trade Oli Jouveli?
FlyLow_ replied to Bertuzzipunch's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Ah yes, lets sell low on another d-man. No thanks, this is Vancouver, we need 8 nhl d-men. If we end up having 4 clearly top 4 LHD, then we can trade one for a nice piece. But neither Juolevi or Rathbone will get us anything more valuable than they are to us right now.
