[Signing] Canucks re-sign Brock Boeser
FlyLow_ replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
People forget Brock was easily our best player the previous season to this one, and we all know what he had to go through this season. I have a lot of time for this young man. I was scared when I saw the Fiala deal but this is just fine. Very Happy. Still lots of work to do for Management but it's a nice start. -

[PGT] Edmonton Oilers at Vancouver Canucks | Jan. 25, 2022

Divisional game against a rival you have to beat to make the playoffs and half the team floats around all game. Goalie played great, a lot of guys should feel embarrassed. -
If we are out of it at the TDL he will have a good opportunity to move some salary out, if not it will be more difficult but a good GM will find a way. We may have to retain a bit on Myers and Pearson but those contracts have to go. Find cheaper replacements for Poolman and Hamonic too. These guys are all replaceable. Miller is 29 so he's the big forward you move to get that top 4 RHD. People forget Brock was our best player last year and it wasn't even close.

[Report] Canucks name Jim Rutherford as president & interim GM

I am optimistic and terrified. This is a guy that is going to trade somebody I probably don't want to see traded to help the team. -
One of the things I don't think is being appreciated about the Rutherford hire is how connected and respected he is around the league. He's going to be able to attract better talent on and off the ice. I suspect there will be some heavy lifting done to restructure and revamp our pro and amateur scouting departments.

[Report] Canucks fire Jim Benning, name Stan Smyl as interim GM

Recapture penalties were literally created because of the Luongo contract, which again, we are still paying for. -

He was given a pretty good core and made timely trades to improve depth. The draft was absolutely hopeless and Gilman was able to basically circumvent the cap to keep a better team together than we should have had. As a result we are still paying Luongo. -

No thanks to Gillis and/or Gilman. I'm not sure what everyone's obsession is with bringing back the old boy's club all the time. Gilman is a cap guy, no interest in that guy making trades. Gillis has never had a clue about drafting and developing and people forget how disliked he was around the league. We don't need that again. Here's a wild idea. Just one time, why don't we go get some people that have won some cups to run things. -
[Waivers] Scott Harrington, Brendan Perlini

I think there have been players that would have been better fits that we passed on. -

Have you seen the blue line? A massive amount of this is on Benning. We are at the cap every season and one of the worst teams in the league with very little prospects/picks to show for it. That is inexcusable. That said, hiring a coach right now makes no sense. Ownership needs to clean house. They need to hire an experienced and successful President and back the &^@# off so they can bring in experienced and successful management and coaching staff that know what it takes to be a contender. The team itself is much too small and soft. Yes Green needs to coach the team he has, but at some point you need to be able to get to the net and make life miserable for other teams. This team has never shown an ability or willingness to do that. They are a perimeter team and easy to play against. There is blame top to bottom here and it needs to be cut out and incinerated.
