Gillis is fine in a business setting where he has zero input on player personnel. Benning earned his shot here and it didn't work out, but there is zero reason for anyone to allow Gillis anywhere near their Hockey Ops. He not only didn't understand player evaluation, it looks like he wasn't even willing to learn. The fact that he didn't hire someone actually slammed qualified for the GM position refutes the claim that he was too focused on the organization aspects.
