Marner also floats in the playoffs and refuses to backcheck. Until he starts putting in an acceptable effort, he's a liability at that salary. I doubt he's going to go anywhere until Toronto replaces Dubas with someone who is actually qualified for a role in hockey ops.
You're still limiting yourself immensely if you only want Canadians, based on the fact that more prospects are now coming from outside Canada and that trend will continue.
Best. Player. Available. If you have that much trouble with Swedish players, I'm sure Don Cherry is ranting at clouds in his podcast. Historically, our scouts do pretty damn well with Swedes.
He's pretty clearly demonstrated he doesn't actually understand anything about the sport with his gross incompetence. He got gifted a job in junior due to nepotism and has done nothing to demonstrate he is even remotely qualified for any hockey related position. He's nothing more than an analytics dweeb who still gets beaten up for his lunch money.
Works for me although Mercer would be acceptable instead of Brett. Perfect fit for our 3rd line with a ton of upside. Point would be a good comparable.
Don't read too much into it. We drafted who we thought was the BPA and ignored positional need, which is what you want in the first round. Hoping for some big, punishing blueliners in the later rounds.
