  1. Marner also floats in the playoffs and refuses to backcheck. Until he starts putting in an acceptable effort, he's a liability at that salary. I doubt he's going to go anywhere until Toronto replaces Dubas with someone who is actually qualified for a role in hockey ops.
  2. You're still limiting yourself immensely if you only want Canadians, based on the fact that more prospects are now coming from outside Canada and that trend will continue.
  3. Garland could be the piece moving out as well. Manson is also not exactly nothing if we can clear out the cap.
  4. JR has been in the league long enough to understand when the best time to make his move is and how negotiations with.
  5. Which would lower the cost for an extension. I'd still prefer to either extend him or trade him prior to camp though.
  6. Yep. Less than one third of the first rounders are Canadians.
  7. Defensive liability with character issues. Should be interesting with Torts coaching.
  8. Best. Player. Available. If you have that much trouble with Swedish players, I'm sure Don Cherry is ranting at clouds in his podcast. Historically, our scouts do pretty damn well with Swedes.
  9. Well this is certainly more thought out than the other thread claiming the sky is falling.
  10. He's pretty clearly demonstrated he doesn't actually understand anything about the sport with his gross incompetence. He got gifted a job in junior due to nepotism and has done nothing to demonstrate he is even remotely qualified for any hockey related position. He's nothing more than an analytics dweeb who still gets beaten up for his lunch money.
  11. Pandemic really should have brought the draft age back to 20.
  12. How many guys at 15 OA are close to NHL ready?
  13. Works for me although Mercer would be acceptable instead of Brett. Perfect fit for our 3rd line with a ton of upside. Point would be a good comparable.
  14. Reality of today's game is that the majority of top prospects are not Canadian.
  15. Maybe if they had a GM who actually understood the sport, they wouldn't have brought in the anchor in the first place.
  16. Don't read too much into it. We drafted who we thought was the BPA and ignored positional need, which is what you want in the first round. Hoping for some big, punishing blueliners in the later rounds.
  17. Well they can't seem to draft an actual NHL quality blueliner either, so this might be the right strategy.
  18. I'd be fine with a package like Mercer, 2nd, Bahl. Lots of good options still on the board.
  19. People wanted 2023 picks anyway. I fail to see the issue.
  20. They still also need to find sweeteners to get rid of Rielly, Marner, and Nylander's contracts.
  21. There will be opportunities once the big UFAs get signed and teams miss out. I'm not worried until we start the season without a trade or extension.
  22. Washington continues to be the orc capital of the NHL.
