[Report] Cam Talbot to hit free agency
King Heffy replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I'm talking about both. Edmonton has 2 NHL defencemen in Nurse and Ekholm, while Toronto has 4 in Schenn, Brodie, and Giordano, and McCabe, but is handicapped with AHL trash in Rielly and Liljigren. Both teams have key forwards who outright refuse to backcheck in McDiver and Double Flamingo, and neither team seems to be in a hurry to get rid of their defensive liabilities. -
What team(s) would you be OK with winning the Cup?

Any but Boston, Florida, Toronto or Edmonton. -

The Canucks already have a better defence than the Leafs and Oilers, neither of which is a good example of how to build a franchise. -

For all his faults, Benning at least understood this. -

The sample size of him playing all is a lot smaller than the sample size of him playing poorly. He's fine as an AHL call-up, but he can't go into the season on the NHL roster. -

He won't allow any GM to cripple the franchise with long-term cap after seeing the devastation caused by Gillis and Benning. Ideally, he'll fire anyone stupid enough to even suggest a buyout; you can't allow anyone like that anywhere near your hockey ops. -

Hence why I said the entire group needs to go. Rutherford was the one who opening sabotaged Boudreau to the media though. That's not acceptable in any organization of any kind. -

You're delusional if you think the way Rutherford conducts himself even remotely approaches an acceptable standard. The entire management team needs to be fired in order to bring the franchise back to respectability. It's important that this is done sooner rather than later before Rutherford does irreparable damage. -

I'd love to see them become a winner. Hiring professional management is a necessary step for that to happen. -

Rutherford did neglect to fix the blueline and got rid of the competent assistants. He then proceeded to spew his garbage to the media. Bottom line is that his misconduct was not something that any player should tolerate, and should have been grounds for immediate termination of employment. The team won't succeed until this waste of oxygen is replaced with someone who deserves respect. -

I'm saying that Rutherford was a child when ownership told him not to fire a coach that had been successful, and instead of acting like a professional, he intentionally set up Boudreau to fail. Ownership is to blame for not firing this worthless sack of **** the minute it became clear the damage he was going to cause, and Schenn should have cleaned Rutherford's clock. At least he was man enough to stand up and tell that dirtbag that his contact was not acceptable. -

Pretty hard to get the best results from your team when your GM is actively sabotaging you. Rutherford should have been fired on the spot the minute it became apparent that he was simply unwilling to conduct himself appropriately. -

He still realized that the way management was conducting themselves was simply not acceptable. Rutherford's complete lack of professionalism disgraced the franchise and Schenn was doing the right thing in standing up to that dirtbag. Schenn knows you can't win cups when your management has serious character issues. -

This. I wouldn't even watch if someone I knew personally was competing.

I don't understand how management can be so unprofessional and incompetent with the media when one of the assistant GM's is literally married to a member of said media. Sadly, I don't expect anything else until Rutherford is fired. -
The Calgary Flames Excellent Season
King Heffy replied to aqua59's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Sutter is pretty clearly unwilling to conduct himself like professional and Lucic has never been able to over his entire career. Ridding the room of those two cancers would do a lot to improve them, unfortunately. They need a guy like Boudreau to make coming to the rink fun again and undo some of the damage caused by Sutter and his pet hunchback. That being said, replacing Treleving with someone who is actually qualified to work in a hockey management role would be a good start.
