Man the Canucks could do with a Deadmarsh clone. I was watching him in Kimberly one Fall, pre season game Portland WH's. There was a kid give him a tap, no more, on the shins. He chased the guy and beat the crap out of him .... intense .... I guess that's no longer acceptable now

That punch by Jovanovski ended Deadmarsh career. You can't feel bad, because Deadmarsh was very agressive himself and wouldn't think twice about doing the same himself

So important. I recall watching Stan Smyl when he first joined the NW Bruins. He had compete written all over him. You couldn't help but being attracted to the player. He had lots of defiencies but he more than made up for them with his compete level. He was a 3rd round pick. Another guy was Scott Walker, just give you every thing each shift ... you can't say that about Virtanen

That's very interesting. You some times wonder who are these journalists and if they were exalted scouts why don't they work within the NHL on some team or another. We all have an opinion but that doesn't mean it counts for any thing. One thing I like for sure is when you offer and assessment to a group of fellow hockey people they often see many things you are missing .... that's why teams have meetings

I don't know who wrote the report ( that would help ) but the fact he was the Utica most prolific D'man, his status as an AHL All-Star and his positive +/- seems to suggest that much of the report lacks accuracy. He may not be perfect but he's the closest we have. Tryamkin may offer a different dimension but the combination of Raffertys offence and Tryamkins physicality is rarely found in the same player. Tryamkin has played in the NHL and people can say what they may but I didn't see unsurmountable problems in his game. In both cases we may be talking a #6 or 7 D and if coaches can't handle that then maybe we need a new defensive coach. When vewing defensemen perfection is preferred but rarely, rarely found. Some of the decissions I suspect will have more to do with Cap restraints than any thing

Interesting that Gear would mention Bailey and Briesbois as candidates for Utica ...... before any training camp

Actually Rafferty played two games in the NHL, both at home and I watched both. Let's put it this way, he stood out. The game prior to Rafferty they gave Tevis a game and he looked below average, I watched that game too. a couple of shifts he played alongside Hughes and there was instant sympatico

Hard to judge what that means, He's a rookie in the NCAA and i have no idea who he beat out to get to the game roster. But he's there and and after a couple of games we should get a better read

Pearson makes approx. the same as Beagle/Rousell and less than Sutter hard to imagine

There's a lot of current fans that will not live to see Vcr win the SC
-
A great story of a kid that just persevered, a late draft pick for Vcr. A real tough guy.
-
No one questions Stechers pluck but to be honest he was muscled off the puck along the boards way too often. You look at SC champs and they have mostly big D, not all big but significant number
-
When he was drafted I recall one of the Hunter brother stated he should make a second pairing D. Kind of pricks your ears up. A 5th O/A pick should make a second line pairing. I know about his injuries, fans remind us continually but I tend to give more weight to his junior coach than the fans. I hope for the best but IMO it's not guranteed
-
Not only that but if you recall the top team in the last season was Boston, they also happen to be the team that beat us in 2011 SC. They have made numerous chnages including Bennings previous boss and players/coaches. If my memory serves me right, covid shut down helped Vcr a lot. We were on a prolonger loosing streak when covid ended the season with Markstrom injured, ie we sneaked into the play-offs but did do well when we got there. Let's not get too carried away
-
I tend to think you see more of the AHL than most fans. He seems to have a pro mentality, in the past he hasn't been treated well in the Czech league and i tend to think preference will be given to players who will play the whole season, most coaches would do the same IMO.
-
Exactly, Seider. was a first round pick, very well thought of. We tend to get over excited on the forum about lessor picks in Vcr. There has to be a comparison to make sense of what we have. I'm not knocking Hoglander I'm saying don't put maybe unlikely expectations on the kid. Adam Tambellini is not a natural for out roster and who knows what lies ahead for Hoglander. IMO fans get, usually without much in the way of facts get all ginned up about our prospects. It's not that long ago Lind was the be all and now he's been replaced by Hoglander
-
Take it easy, it's just my opinion, best we wait and see
-
Cool your jets boys, I like his future for sure, but keep in mind Adam Tabellini has the same number of points on Rogle and the defenseman Moritz Seider, a defenseman, but the same age, is 1 point back

As the Finnish coach said, who cares, it's like forcing a high school team to play an elementary school. The players are not caring in fact I'm surprised some didn't suddenly become injured, It's a farce this is not about Podkolzin it's about a slap to the face of the other countries by the Russians. This no longer about goals and and skill this is Russian politics at it's worse
-
First of all other sports wouldn't permit this, you don't send your boys team along to play the senior team. Second it's an insult and third the other countries will remember this for a long time
-
Can you imagine the uproar if Tryamkin playing for Calgary gave the Vcr fans a steady diet of Pettersson eating glass
-
I assume the players on contract are being paid, so why not bring them into Vcr. They would likely get better health supervision and could train with Team coaches ?
-
What I recall was when Pettersson got into a fray Schenn was right there and here's the important part, every one backed off. Reputation avoids a lot of fights. He was a tough guy in TO and his name has a certain history. FYG he went with Matt Martin, Tom Wilson, Chris Thorburn, amongst others
