Alexander Edler nominated for King Clancy Trophy
Fred65 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
I don't believe the official fraternity ever forgot the Auger firing, ditto Sutherland being moved from his home base on the Westcoast to be sent to the Eastcoast official roster -
Jagr was clearly the best pick except .....no one was betting he might ever get out of Czechoslovakia. That was the gamble. The USSR was still in control and clubs had no idea that Gorbachev would dismantle the USSR in 1991 ... heck the CIA had no idea LOL. The dissolution of Czechoslovakia took place in 1993. Nedved on the other hand had already taken political asylum as a 16 year old from the WJC as I recall

From what I've read Rathbone is a gym freak and has some snarl to his game, it helps in the NHL
-
We all know he's big likes to hit and doesn't turn many down.bUt was I surprised at how quick his hands are. He drives the net and I've seen him go back hand fore hand and a great shot upstairs a few times. I was surprised at the quickness in his hands

Heaven forbid the Oilers don't always get thing right but I believe their thinking is sound this time. We all surmise that Vcr is not going to win the Cup this year, it's 2-3, maybe more, away. So you need to groom your young D and polish the rough edges so in that period your, cheap D will be available. Some come as complete packages, Hughes for instance but others, perfectly good future players need help. I'm thinking Rafferty. Biesbois, Rathbone and maybe Chatfield and Sautner. Vcr is fortunate to have these alternates available. Think of Ethan Bear in Edm. a 5th round pick and is/will be a top 4 D'man. Rathbone is another steal from HIgh school/USHL and Rafferty is a FA from the NCAA, these are like gifts. Juolevi should have been closer to Hughes than Rathbone IMO. Man we sure flexed some strength in the USHL the last couple of years. The next one to join those ranks IMO is McDonough currently with N'Eastern but from Cedar Rapids in the USHL

I hope he's on his way up too. It's great watching Hughes reverses often and as quick as he does .... but as Pat Quinn said practising with Bure make the whole team better. With some one like Hughes you have to get physically involved or he'll make a fool of you every shift. Thankfully he's on our roster not some other team. Be it a stick an elbow a hip you can't stand off this kid. And if you get a chnace to throw a hit make it count. From the Canuckarmy, it's not me but expresses the same question

Your trying to tell me that players getting open in the slot never happens. Boeser makes a living from that as do many other forwards, drifting in and out, stick on the ice waiting for some one like Hughes or Petersson the put it on their tape. What OJ needed to do was get his body on HUghes and prevent (( or make difficult) the pass to the high slot ..... that's his job for heavens sake. If your the coach that's a video session for OJ
-
In a real game a player in slot would have received great set up from Hughes without OJ laying a finger on him. He could never get close enough to ride the Hughes into the boards or hold him up. Come on OJ this is your career on the line. On the positive side OJ did manage to stay on his skates

That's true for sure, or to put it in the words of a philosopher .... "The owl of Minerva spreads it's wing only with the falling of dusk" But it holds true for all people and not confined ( maybe more prevalent with youth ) in modern idiom don't bet on some thing you don't know any thing about

Brings a smile to my face. One person that does actually know some thing about the subject but counter to the cheerleaders get the insults and bad mouthing. Because he doesn't agree with your position there's no need to resort to this. Just imagine every time you hit a sticking point in negotiations you resort to this tactic, there's be no negotiations
-
I watched Brisebois and he looked pretty darn close to me. Good size, good reach smooth skater but looked nervous, he'll beat that with familiarity and getting into his comfort zone. To me he's shown more than Juolevi. I don't for the life of me understand why Benning went with Benn rather than Briesbois

I tend to believe that this is a must year for Juolevi. This saga has to come to an end at some stage. I understand all the hurdles he has had in front of him but at some stage the club can't giving him a pass, he has to show what they can expect from him in the future. This has been going on since 2016. Surely there has been some period during that 4 years when he has offered hope. Rathbones going to challenge him and to be honest Brisbois to. Sautner is right there. Olli you have to do it now
-
The Caps the problem coming back to bite them, this from Tryamkins agent Todd Diamond
-
My quesstion is remind me why we needed to sign Benn @ $2.0 mill when we has equivalent players in Utica .... or indeed better. Sautner played a number of games before and never looked out of place. This is just poor Cap managment IMHO

The guy had to make a move or he may have ended up with no roster spot in the K either
-
Yeah he's in tough and now overtaken by Rathbone or so it seems. All the Pro Juolevi pundits seems to have faded away. You wonder if they could identify other top picks that have failed to make an impact and try a trade, Mittelstad Pulujavior (SP) Liljegren just as examples. You think a change of scenery ... who knows
-
Ericksson and Beagle have nothing to do with either covid or the flat cap. That's a red herring I'll say this I'd like to see some prospects brought in to give experience to but again, what's getting in the way ..... Ericksson and Beagle
-
You make a reasonable point, but before we throw Tryamkin under the bus think of what we could have done with an extra $9.0 mill I don't see many replacement for a 6'8/250 Defenseman around ( a bit like hens teeth, not many of them ) Vcr is deficient in physicality on the blue line ne and there is a cost for that
-
Well, Brisebois, Rathbone and Juolevi all play the left side and what no one wants to address is lack of physicality on the back end. Tryamkin plays a different role. If Ferland can play his physical game ditto Rousell then it helps but it does not address IMO a glaring need on the blue line especially come the play-offs. I have reservations about putting a wager on Ferlands future in the league! Leivo is a player than can play 2/3/4 line with ease and chip in some goals. Far better than Beagle and Sutter IMO Leive had 20 pts in 40 games that translates to 40 pts in 80 games. That's better than Sutter, Erickson, Rousell, Beagle and Motte. I understand your the President of the Benning fan club which is OK until it starts to impact on the team over all. The team has need for some physical presence and we have such a player but can't sign him because we're attached to the likes of Ericksson and Beagle. That's $9.0 million, repeat US$9.0 million. Take a moment of your time and check out the size of the last SC winners D, St L. The think of Boston with Carlo and Chara
-
It's not like he isn't needed. If this team has one established fact, it's small one and missing physicality. It's like having a shortage of wingers or centres .... it's a missing part. Just in case we forget StL won the Cup .... St L.!! and take a look at their D, it was big and powerful. It's a shame and IMO directly related to a lack of thought to the Cap and the signing of over priced FA. Doesn't look good. I suspect we'll lose Leivo as well and maybe Stecher, bad Cap management
-
Chances are that the AHL will not play this year. No ticket sales, no games. But I've wondered why they haven't already done this

Dhaliwal :- "Agent Todd Diamond : Nikita could not wait any longer, the risk was too high for him, he has not played since February. The Canucks can not do a deal right now due to cap issues & they do not want to add a 1 way deal right now." That's how bad FA's signing kicks in. Having said that this is a problem of Tryamkins own making
