True but FA also allows other teams into the mix, for instance NYR and reunite with his partner Fox

[Report] Canucks to part ways with Judd Bracket
Fred65 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
He made it plain to Brackett he didn't want him around and Brackett as I understand had a number of opportunities with other more rational teams. No skin off Bracketts nose. I believe he may well be an Asst GM in the near future. Jimbo, ( and Weisbrod ) not so much I don't think he'll be a quick hire if he finishes with Vcr. Brackett ends up I speculate with a better job position and I'd think a better salary -
I see Mtl has just signed Romanov, great prospect. Mtl has Cap space ... Vcr not so much, nice if they has space for Tryamkin and hopefully Rathbone

[Report] Canucks to part ways with Judd Bracket

They say the best coaches are ones that can adapt thier system to suit the roster/skills they have. The same holds true of GM's wehn you have good staff available you try to accomodate your plans to include the quality staff you have. In particular Gilman and Brackett both good examples of quality people that brought a lot to the table. I hate to say it but both these people were to smart for JB liking. The people you fire are those that show incompetence or disregard for the team -

The good thing from Bennings perspective is they can't be accused of any thing this draft ( neither a 1st or 2nd round pick) and so It'll be two years time before they get another real kick at it and likely a couple of years in the development stage by which time all the fans will have forgotten about Judd Who? and how many fans are gong to follow closely the Minny's future picks closely. Timing was perfect. It's hard to judge waht Benning and Weisbrod do for a number of years as their picks are going to be relatively low picks. This was a belt and braces moment for Jimbo -

Most GM's I'd guess are shall we say economical with the truth. We all are happy to accept GM's leading other teams astray with their would be draft pick, which is a lie, but then get upset if some one lies about another part of management. I understand Brackett and Benning weren't even talking to one another so to suggest "we offered him a extension" is any thing other than a comment without any integrity. I take most with a good dose of skepticism, it's not always a lie simply a "misleading" statement. -
Connauton was always thought of as a defensive liability even when he did his year with the Giants, as I recall. But I agree many had him pegged as a quality prospect. I was surprised that he could never grasp his defensive problems and correct them

Many AHL teams need income from ticket sales to survive. I read some place a lot of AHL players are scrambling to find homes in Europe. Where Rathbone fits who knows. I believe he has to declare 48 hours after the new CBA is signed. Heck NHL owners are going to have a bad time holding their teams together. As one owner mentioned many owners are being hit in their primary business never mind their play thing, AHL/NHL The word I keep hearing is the NHL resumes in January 2021. Think of the arenas that are club owned. Man this is a compounding problem which ever way you look at it. Maybe they should Furlough Bettman for starters

I guess the question is will he be ready to step straight in. Heck the NHL looks like it won't open until maybe January 2021. He's just turned 21

Well that didn't take long, when you think an established coach Lindy Ruff took years of sitting on the side lines. I tend to think it'll be worth watching the draft this season if only to see who Minny takes. Good move by Guerin when you think he gets and estabilished and league wise respected within his fraternity director of scouting. Good for him and wish him well -
During the World Juniors, I asked Sandin to describe Canucks prospect Nils Hoglander and he said: 'He's got his own swagger. He's a little bit different. He might not be a typical Swede, but he's a guy you like to have on your team.' What do you like about coaching him? "He's the kind of player that you want on your team, because he can make a difference. Some of the stuff he does and some of the goals he scored during the World Juniors, you just don't understand how he can do it in that kind of situation. He thinks the game quicker than a lot of the others and I think, for him, sometimes he just sees it slower and that’s how he manages to do the things that he does. He's really down to earth and doesn't talk much. He works really hard and is really thorough about everything, his stick, his conditioning, everything. He doesn't take anything for granted. He works for everything." In what way is the Rogle forward thorough about his sticks? "He works with them every day and just changes things and it feels like he's always walking around with his sticks. I don't know maybe he sleeps with them as well." Hoglander scored five goals at the World Juniors, but none prettier than the lacrosse-style one against Finland on Boxing Day. What went through your mind when he pulled off that move? "I mean, he did it in the SHL earlier, but this was different. It was our first game against Finland, and I remember we just had a power play and it wasn't that good and he skated around the net and did it just as the penalty expired. I asked him how he could see that, and he said, 'I had a feeling. The goalie went down and I'm pretty quick.' All the players on the bench went nuts. The fans weren't that happy, but that's part of the game."

That's true, but personally I wouldn't want Weisbrod to take my dog for a walk never mind determine the future of the Canucks ... but that's just me. As I recall it was weisbrod that chose jankowski in Calagary with a first round pick, that turned out well

Regretfully the Canucks have a chip on their shoulder about being a late comer to the league and trying desperately to show they're Team players ( NHL wise ) I'm equally sure teams like Anaheim, Raleigh have no such compunctions and will be and already have Bettemans ear ( under threat they will leave ) ... Vcr is a poor cousin

All good points, but you left two scenarios out. A) they don't have to leave it's their choice B} they new the situation well in advance. Army personel leave home, I left home when i was 16 and not to the next Province over. My son emigrated to EuropeI see my grandchildren every 4-5 years. Life goes on. The good news is he is paid a relative fortune and should be set for life with wise investments

True, but it strikes me that USHL/High schools ( particularly close by Brackets home ) have served us well

Quite the pick for a 4th round selection. That's a scouts pick. Makes you wonder how many more we'll see like that in a late round. Macdoungh might be the last

Rathbones options are getting smaller. I tend to think the signing bonus may be the cherry to have him sign

I have no idea who Nathan Kanter ( the hockey writers journalist ) is or what special scouting skills he bring to the discussion. I like to know who the messenger is. This much I do know Larionov was on sports 650 in an interview and he spoke very highly of Podkozin and suggested he'd be the Captain of the WJC team. I couldn't tell how well the kid will bebut I'm inclined to believe Larionov

Rob Williams may be "The hockey guy" but this we all make mistakes doesn't wash for me. Think of this, this guy had his leg amputated and then died any way Mark Cordero had experienced complications during his treatment for COVID-19, including lung infections and blood clotting in his right leg. Kloots announced in mid-May that her husband had woken up from a medically induced coma, after having his right leg amputated just weeks earlier.
