  1. As I understand that's exactly what happened in St L. They cancelled practise when they found 4 players tested positive. How does this work ? you loose roster players due to covid then the teams with the players that make social commitment likely win the Cup. I assume going into the play-offs players need to be extra vigilant and commit ? Am I wrong. Let's hope Virtanen isn't rubbing shoulders with EP & QH
  2. St.L has 4 players test positive and need to cancel practise and in total there are now 11 players destined for play-offs. Let's hope Virtanen doesn't join that club or infect others. Which ever bars/clubs what ever his choice. It's not just having a beer with a couple of friends it's risking his team mates ( and incidentally other friends and family) ... so he can have a beer. He seems to choose himself before his team mates. The days of just going out for a beer are over until the world has a vaccine. Why do we need to write this in super large print on the side of a building to have people understand. God there's a lot of stupid people
  3. Can you imagine if Jake passes the virus to other Canuck team mates
  4. Here's my question why would a professional athlete risk his career for maybe a weeks, 2 or 3 games, and end up with Covid repercussions for life? They haven't as of today been able to measure the long lasting effects of the respiratory problems. If it's me, or mine, or as an agent I'd recommend stay at home until they have a treatment or vaccine
  5. Didn't Comet have an abrasive cleaning powder too, LOL
  6. Heck I'm not infallible by any means. I offer my opinion, hey just like you But I have sat down in team meetings in US universities and been told who and when and why I cannot speak to. I've seen the manual the NCAA coaches need to study and even though it's an open book exam you still need to know where to look I take them at their word. I'm not bragging or any thing but I've managed to get more than a few players full scholarships and never been penalized either. I can add that I declined to study/sit the exam myself just the looks put me off. I'd say it's 5" thick ( 12+ cms for the new age )
  7. Well I have to say that's not what I heard on the US news. A number of physician in Texas have stated that a number of hospital are indeed over whelmed. And your assumption is that other States are for some reason r not testing as frequently as Texas, only the Texas stats are effected by more testing. A lot of the current spike is related back to the lifting of social limits. What I'd really like to see is all the revelers need to identify who they nominate to die as a result of them picking up the virus during their party time... my grandmother, my sister etc. It may not be them that die but some one close likely will By the way BC is 30% larger than Texas and Alaska is larger too. I understand it's a large state and Houston as a city is vast and spread out. The USA has handled the virus worse then any other country, which is a dubious distinction. The has noew been 125,000 deaths dues to the virus. I see while in the midst of this corvid I see the Senate is trying to chnage the health care act to eliminate so many from treatment now and in the future.
  8. Just for a reference California along with Texas, Florida and Arizona amongst other are the hot spots in the USA. https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/coronavirus-count-state-day-2020-united-states-n1173421
  9. Could be, I watched live and maybe you watched on TV. The TV shots rarely pan backwards to see who's busting it back checking or hanging back for a breakaway. As a rule the TV follows the play/puck. I know what I saw, some time Virtanen wasn't even pushing on his back check, gliding
  10. Back checking is a state of mind. Some players just never get it, for them it's all about scoring
  11. As you wish, as you wish. I'd think after the first ten years in most jobs it becomes a case of rinse and repeat. Your suggestion was that Madden some how built his way up, suggesting that Brackett didn't. Apprently in Bennings eyes he was doing a great job and had worked his way up, hence the promotion to Dir Scouting. When it comes to Scouting meeting the guys that's running the meeting was :- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMb1fKDQogk I tend to believe Brackett played along in office politics but had put his money on Linden. The prime motivator is Aquaman , it's confusing and I suspect in year 6-7 for Benning he might well fall prey to the confusion too. You can't go that long without a glimmer of success and expect a reward. Brackett will be back in the league and I suspect will continue on his road of excellence
  12. Play-offs. I suppose they will go ahead but shouldn't. The two hot spots for corona is Florida and Arizona amongst other Southern climes. The Lighting staff and players registered 11 cases of new infection and some basketball players I understand are declining to play. If you want a career as an Athlete you need to safeguard your health for the future, sacrificing your lungs is not a good idea.
  13. ?? …. Brackett joined the Canucks in 2008 ie he's been working for the organisation for 12 years, worked his way up and proved himself … because Benning promoted him to Director of Amateur scouting in 2015. he was DOS for close to 5 years.
  14. And then of course it could have been dealt with like GM Murray did in Ducksville
  15. News flash … he's not competing with the average Joe
  16. sure but Podkolzin seems to be well ahead mentally ( according to Larionov). What springs to mind for me is as Forrest Gump states "Stupid is as stupid does"
  17. A lot depends on trust from Green. Competition is always good. Maybe the point that he has matured on and off the ice might be the magic elixir missing from his O/A game. Many NHL playersare gym nuts but 4-5 times a week doesn't sound like OJ is a gym rat.
  18. I tend to think you're right about defensive schemes. I understand that Green wants the D to jump in and it certainly provides more entertainment ( some times good some times not so much) but IMO the first move that needs to be made is to limit this "jumping into the attack to certain D'men. You can't let the likes of Benn and Fatenburg or Tanev to jump up because they don't have the wheels to get back and prevent an out numbered counter attack. Plus of course we need more emphasis for forwards to retreat better. One of the things I don't always like about Virtanen is his occasional slow back check ( as a rule the TV rarely shows the back checkers )
  19. I'd agree even Gillis conceded on 1040 he was late in re structuring the scouting Department. However he did hire Brackett, it was a start. But he did put most of his energy into on ice success and making Vcr into a go to team for many players. It needs to be remembered that few NHL'ers have a preference for the Coast. I tend to believe Francisco want to enjoy immediate success ( I'm not sure what the situation of his father is but he wanted a Cup before he left ) so it kind of skewed the direction the club would follow. Both Torts and Gillis understood the need for a rebuild but were denied the opportunity. FA wanted success now and when Benning declared "“I like this team - I like the core players. This is a team we can turn around in a hurry.” - Benning" it was music to FA ears. Unfortunately it wasn't to be, and over time the Torts / Gillis prediction become the truth
  20. We need to keep in mind that years ago there were fewer team and the supply of players seemed endless. They were paid a pittance and very replaceable. Much like junior hockey which was a meat market. I remember when the Spruce King joined the BC Junior A they went through 47 players in their first season. The draft wasn't a TV show and few really cared. Now the salaries have risen dramatically and it attracts players from all over the world. With the Salary Cap good drafting is a must, prior to the Cap teams just bought and sold players like Sunday roasts. The players took real jobs in the summer and came to camp in bad shape. The landscape has changed so it's unfair to try and compare one era with another
  21. This is not as much about Brackett, but more hey some thing after all these years is looking professional and some hope for the future and now IMO it's changed for the worse. It appears to be a power struggle both of who have some thing to offer. We needed an arbitrator in the worse way and Aquaman was it ! he failed, offered no answer and asks fans to fork out great sums of money in blind hope things will be OK, just believe me. I'm looking forward to the new sales pitch that will inevitably come out in the future More marketing and not so much facts. Put me down as pessimistic for the future. Here's a question who's going to be fired next
  22. I'm not sure where Madden fit's in, he certainly appeared to have a bright future**. But my point is more about the stream of sales pitches that come out of Orca Bay and what segment of the fan base soak it up and what proportion are tired of excuses. Prospects do not mean success, they mean maybe, maybe, we have some thing here. The list of examples of teams with great prospects shows this. When I look back on all the sales pitches the Canucks have made during their 50 year it's an inspiration, to imagination. I'd think many fans are likely 10 year cycle before they turn away. But for those that have supported the team for numerous decades there is well founded doubt. What offended me is it appears that scouting had turned for the better and they chose to break it up in favour of self before team. ** I read in one article suggesting management thought Madden was too small to play in the NHL. This from a team that drafted Hoglander, Palmu and others of that stature
  23. In summary is it fair to say that having good prospects does not automatically = the SC. We got so close in 2011and yet our depth needed to sustain a marathon was not good enough that plus of course Kelly Sutherland Publicity wise the Canucks depend on we have a bright future and good prospects but is it a sales gimmick or does it actually carry weight.
  24. Quite honestly I couldn't give a fig for the current play-off system and frankly I always felt that "we need the experience" is nonsense( a consolation ribbon ) I think at the end of the day we're still a legitimate piece missing and now we're heading for the worse place of all mediocrity. Never quite a high enough to draft for another prominent player and to far from the top to make any noise if we get in. Some thing like SJ, nearly good enough but a player or two short. Mediocrity is the worse place to be. I'm into summer mode, I want to get to the cottage in the worlds worse way, do a little fishing and putzing around the place. Maybe, maybe, Podkolzin is that player that makes the difference but with this roster ….. not yet.
  25. I guess it depends on if it's one and out for the play-offs. There had to be at time of the trade some financial pressure you would think. Sadly I don't know if the new play-off format is a case of share the spoils or share the pain. If we're one and out we could have achieved that without Toffoli. A nice player and seemed to fit in with the roster but he is 28 come next season, will he be around for the real play-off run in 2-3 years??
