[Report] Canucks to part ways with Judd Bracket
Fred65 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
If there is a humourous side to this story it's that all of those posters who constantly down graded this story as it developed as fake news from fake journalists. Well …. apparently not !! Seems like the accused fake journalists through their sources were actually on to some thing. Many who fostered pre conceived beliefs now have red faces -
I thought Teves became the forgotten man in Utica and I believe some one mentioned that he didn't look quite right after his return from injury

That's interesting, I recall years ago Smyl was the point man for NCAA FA signing but that was a long time ago and then I recall Ryan Johnson brought Tanev onboard. I'd be interested to know who leads that specific job now. Elite Prospects show him as collage and Pro scout until 2015 https://www.eliteprospects.com/staff/12021/jonathan-bates Man I'm glad you asked that question ref NCAA scouting I found this This I'm guessing this doesn't include the likes of Gaudette, Madden McDonough but will be involved in I'm guessing Rafferty etc
-
Reading a recent article on Canucks Army they discussed McDonough and it struck me that regardless of the Brackett problem, Vcr has in his time here, developed a good relationship with the USHL and in particular with a mutual agreement with N'Eastern Unv. When you look at Gaudette, Madden and McDonough they all came through the USHL and N'Eastern plus of course Malone at USHL & Cornell. That's quite a position of strength lets hope some other team becomes the beneficiary of Bracketts relationship.
-
This kids big advantage is playing for Madigan. He's afforded the kid to develop. The question I'd like the answer to is, is MacDonough in the USHL and then recommended to N'Eastern ie a mutual decission, Vcr scouts and Madigan. Is there a tie between N'Eastern and Vcr
-
Absolutely, however it has been reported that Brackett was neither asking for a raise or complain about the length. What he wants is a better defined role, as I understand. Success does warrant some recognition, for mort employees in what ever job they have. Some times it's promotion, some times it's a bonus system some time it's just acknowledgement.
-
It was mentioned in the media a while back, sorry I can't remember who but definitely not Burke, I've only ever heard him once. I suppose you may scorn but that's your privilege Really I'm not into splitting hairs or school yard rants
-
Absolutely correct, he just been passed over and called to heel. It's been orchestrated so he shoulders the blame, well done Jim

Just reading THN futures watch ( thanks for pointing it out ) on line and a couple of things jump out. I loved Bahl in the WJC and he's rated in the top ten risers. And since that time I've had a chnace to see Romanov ( Mtl ) another second round pick he has success written all over him. Both were selected after Woo. In the ten fallers they list Juolevi but make comment he's hard to analyse due to injuries
-
Technically speaking you're correct, but offering a short term with no raise in salary contract and then promoting Gear to AGM kind of spells it out. I think this falls under the heading of splitting hairs
-
First you have to sell the space and keep in mind with the existing contracts for many clubs have been prematurely cancelled with a lot of money left on the table and who knows legal issues will follow. Selling space under those conditions is not a great experience. I know that most will claim force majeure but only the courts can confirm that

I have to admit for many years I was a full time officer walla. And I enjoyed getting out of the office confines on business. I guess you'd say refreshing. I don't blame JB for wishing to do the same. Drifting around North America and Europe rubbing shoulders with friends and like minded people, the odd beer I'm sure helped. Better than looking at cash flows, and merchandizing products. If that's what he wishes to do I guess that's OK for me but heck hire a General Manager to attend to the everyday running of an organization and firing the current Director of Amateur Scouting for no good reason doesn't seem fitting when he's done every thing he could to make the team better.
-
Right on!! You've capsulated the problem very well. Chris Gear has been doing the same job with a different title for years and he's not IMO a beacon of success. Bennings title when hired was General Manager, Bracketts position is Director of Amateur scouting. What's the confusion. The confusion is Benning wants to be Director of scouting. Is Brackett up for his role ? well it seems so, is Gear up for his role I'd say 50-50 and who will be the general manager
-
When it comes to the Cap one phrase stands out to me " forward planning" yeah we can all see it's OK today. It's like a cash flow chart …… checking for the future and obligations to come. I don't doubt in their plans they've reached some pretty heavy decissions, because some big choices are on the horizon
-
JB is in a good place when you think about it. If Tryamkin won't sign he ain't going to get that money in the KHL and he just sits out the NHL for a season. If he's comfortable with what he can bring then look for a long term deal if he just wants to advertise himself and look to move on or look for a longer term deal then sign a 1 year deal. I don't think IMO that either he or his agents are that sure of his future success
-
Seems like a logical assumption. the one fact that is missing is the contract negotiating has not been a strong suit for Vcr, the FA signings either. The amateur draft on the other hand has been exemplary. So JB thinks I'm having a better time with the scouting than I am with the contracts/FA so I'll hand that off to Gear and get rid of Brackett and get out on the road more. The Problem is Gear was not hired as the GM, Jim boy was and Brackett was hired as director of scouting. Gears record is not great, Brackett's record is

It certainly an area he needs to improve on, if Makar can be a plus player so to should Hughes
-
I tend to think over an extended period it's still good. I know I always asked players immediately following the game , win or loss , what their plus minus was. Kind of keeps their play focused on what's important

Fixing Team Defensive Structure - What does Green need to do?
Fred65 replied to wallstreetamigo's topic in Canucks Talk
Green wants his D to jump into the offense and out number the opponents. Unfortunately that opens the team up to the counter attack and often it's costly. I tend to think that needs to be revisited and maybe limit which D are allowed to go and which stay back and leave it to the forwards. Vcr has a lot more skill up front now from when Green took over, time for a review -
You have to hand it to Vcr management they've been extremely patient with Juolevi. That has to end soon, you can't just keep working on the bases of hope. It's a conundrum for JB, what next. I doubt if there are many enquiries for OJ especially with this upcoming Cap Hell for most teams. I can't see many alternatives for management, they threw Hutton under the bus and he actually played in the NHL and indeed still does. It's a head scratcher
-
I guess it depends on what you are looking for and how much u have to spend. Chabot is one of my favourite players since I watched him in the WJC, but he's not a Hughes impact type player. For the role he plays I think I'd have to take a serious look at what else is out there. He's similar to Barrie who I wouldn't want on my roster. You can't be dazzled by his rushing ability to the detrement of other defiencies and then asked to pay a premium ….tough call
-
Personally I'd think both Jasek ( who they've been grooming for the centre position ) and or Michaelis would be ahead of Lind. I believe Lind played wing in Utica
-
That frankly goes for many stats. When you look at face off percentage it's a laugh. Some guys have only taken two face off against who you have no idea …. but the won them both But over the course of a season or heck at half season it does indicate a trend, some good some not so much. I'm betting many payers know their own +/- at the end of the game … and they know the coach does as well
