  1. Depends who you replace them with
  2. The need for amateur scouting is not what it was, this year we don't get a pick until the 3rd round. According to many on this board, the Cup is just around the corner, and we'll be picking at the low end of the draft from now on. Great time to pull the rug on the staff and take the all the glory. It's a dog eat dog world
  3. you say comprehension I say composition
  4. I suppose you could read it that way, but at very least it's ambiguous you could take it either way
  5. Wow that's very expansive of you, democratic. If we don't follow your guidelines bye bye. That's the very essence of self totalitarianism. My read or any other posters read regarding the state of the franchise is just as valid. Here's the difference no one else tells other to take off if they don't fall in line with their beliefs. It's nice to know narcissism is alive and flourishing have a nice day
  6. much of what's said it good, common sense. Most good journalists won't put their name to an article unless they have confirmation from at least two sources, they publish rumour they ain't around long. This Trumpian suggestion that all news is fake news isn't good but I suppose that's where we are in todays society. When Elliot Freeman added his name I took notice. It's sad that thing appear to have become so contentious is not good. Information comes not just from Vcr but throughout the sports world. If we assume Brackett is gone I tend to think his reputation will be shown in how quick he's re-hired. I'm shocked if they have him around for the draft
  7. I don't for a moment believe that this is melodramatic nonsense, the same story is being sauced by too many individual parties. The FACT is we have been successful with the amateur draft for a number of year. I don't care who's on top you simply do not start to dissemble that team, it's worked, so, "as you were" and get back to it. Take your silly spats over power and glory that need an arbitrator and that person is Aquilini. He pays the wages he's the guy in charge of these infants. Sorry to say the only way this will be resolved as we stand is Brackett leaves and our amateur scouting goes down the tube and who ever Brackett reservices with ( and he will ) suddenly become very good. That's a heck or a price to pay
  8. If Vcr can look to one area of success over the last few years it's been the amateur draft. Surely this is the time when Aquilini steps up and tells Benning and Brackett to act like adults and do what's right for the club rather than their own childish wishes. I doubt Brackett has any authority to make chnages but Benning does, so Mr Aquilini this is your time to flex your authority. If that means Weisbrod is taken out of the picture so be it. The two primary scouts are Brackett and Benning, not Weisbrod
  9. I'll say this should JB be content to let Brackett move for what ever the reason be it ability or personal he's certanlity chosen the right moment. Vcr will get their first pick in2020in the third round, 82 O/A. That prospect is doubtful to have a NHL future. The following year they will likely be drafting in the first round, maybe in or around the 20th O/A slot. That player more then likely will need more than a couple of years before he becomes an NHL play if indeed he ever does. All in all that's 4 years from now before any effect of the chnage in scouting staff impacts the club in any meaningful way. You gotta give it to the man, timing is great. Then of course you can monitor which ever team Brackett signs for, and he won't be unemployed very long. If Gillis gets the job in NJ I'd think that might be the destination for Brackett, closer to home too
  10. There are those that believe Benning can walk on water and there are those that treat him just like another mortal, frankly similar to the fans that idolize Juolevi and Virtanen. It's cult like nothing more to say unfortunately
  11. As I said the only guy that knows definitively is Benning and his Priest. How ever unlike you or I Burke does get to talk to other scouts around the league, so you have to concede he's in a better position than either you or I. I recall at the old Queens Park Arena when the NW Bruins played they had a scouts room, always filled, always filled with cigar smoke and every one laughing, I suspect at others cost There's a whole lot of chatter goes on when these guys get together. The thing is to get access to the chatter Burke has it you and I don't so I'd give more weight to Burke than the posters on the forum, but, that's just me
  12. I checked and the words were " we got our guy " so technically you're right https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEdqADPRX1s 1:34 The Brackett to JB is Woo goes we make the trade 3:21 It's up to Judd The next selection was Madden and JB didn't as much as know which school the guy was going to attend … detail, details
  13. He may be a &^@#ing tool, however he has the opportunity and certainly does talk with other teams scouts which neither you or I do! He's right in the fact this is unprecedented occasion certainly for Vcr to have this degree of success in the draft. The question is the split between who was the most influential in those decissions. JB knows and understand even if Brackett leaves he will not be held to account for this decission for years to come. If JB breaks up what has brought success to the club then shame on the club. You don't toy with success …. IMO
  14. I believe the sticking point is, some teams have TV contracts which are demanding the remaining season games to be played. Maybe they'll sue if not. On the other hand the NHL has to rely on a force majeure rebuttal. Who know maybe the TV stations will demand compensation. It would be nice if Vcr could get the 1st round pick and the loose the pick in 2021.
  15. That's on the Pro scouts, not the amateur scouts
  16. Well unless JB and or Brackett go to a confessional we'll never know the key to this discussion is their priest
  17. To be honest I tend to believe that the thing that brought a halt to the slide was not as much Lindens departure but the arrival of Pettersson, followed by Hughes. Take those two away and we're no better than the previous seasons. Some of those aquisition's was luck ( ie the teams drafting ahead of us didn't take eother of those players) but part due to Vcr scouting. As I understand Delorme was the one that wouldn't let go of the Pettersson bone and in the case of Hughes I recall JB saying to Brackett after they grabbed Woo, "well you got both of YOUR players" Vcr minus EP and QH is still a poor team, it gave every one hope. Miller without EP wouldn't have happened there was no need. Sadly the only way we'll find out is if he leaves. Forunately for Vcr ( and JB ) the result of that won't be apparent for years to come, no 1st or 2nd round pick this years, the pciks we get in 2021 will still be likely 3 years away from the NHL and so most fans will have forgotten about Brackett by then. I'll say this now is the time for good Pro scouting rather than amateur scouting
  18. Well Seabrook is now on LTI and is paid $6.8 mill.until 2024. He certainly complimented a more risky player like Keith for many years but that boats sailed, Chicago would love to get rid of his contract
  19. This from a Utica fan, Ray=Cathode, who frankly as a rule sticks to facts rather than speculate. It's interesting as he likely one of the few posters on here that actually watched these guy simultaneously. Fantenburg is likely as good as you can expect for a 5-6 D.
  20. Don't you find it staggering how Karlson turned his game around after he changed teams, similar for Costmar, he's undoubtly upped his game this season
  21. If we take for gospel the view that Fatenberg is better then Juolevi it doesn't look good. We've all seen Fatenberg in Vcr, he does have value at his salary but not a future core player. From the posts I've read of Ray's he pretty even keeled with his assessments. Which ever way it goes JB is going to get it in the neck from the impulsive fans
  22. The best thing about Podkolzin IMO is he hasn't signed an ELC. He's doing his apprenticeship on some one else's dime. He'll still be on his ELC when the Canucks are SC contenders
  23. Not all together sure about training aspect. He has played for a season in the NHL ie he understands what to expect Although the KHL is no where near the NHL it's still likely better than the AHL. The part that concerns me is the NHL style has chnaged in the last years, it's a younger and faster league. JB seems to think his skating is not a concern so who am I or us to question that. The plus is obvious he adds a missing component to the blue line. His age is right (25) not to late to learn but enough years left to grow with the team plus of course maybe his wife values the salary now … in US$ no less and who knows maybe she's already tired on her mother-in-law
  24. Sadly there's no stand still in sports. Either you're getting better or you're getting worse. The goal is the SC and we ain't got there with this roster so unpopular moves need to be made. These are commodities not your friends, sad but true. Boeser is a quality asset which may improve the team in other areas. He seems like a heck of a guy but the other team will pay him the same as we pay him so so don't get too bent out of shape. Heck if you could move him to Minny he might be happier … close to his father
  25. The time line for Vcr is not next season. To make noise in the SC, it's likely 2 maybe 3 years away. So some of this youth needs to have their game polished so they're at their prime when Vcr is serious. Surely this year should be a time for the franchise to bring in some youth, knock the corners off their game and make them ready for the real run
