  1. I wonder if he'll turn up in the Penticton Prospects tourney. Same goes for the other picks
  2. A few summaries/rankings of the kid http://www.nucksmisconduct.com/2015/6/27/8856595/the-new-guy-guillaume-brisebois
  3. http://www.thehockeyforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=9560&p=205977#p205977
  4. If Travis Green gave Beartschi a chnace to produce I'd think think WD doing the same is doubtful. Willy is all about Willy. Job protection and the heck with youth development....lets be honest it was a reluctant WD when it cane to Horvat. He likes the Vets such as Higgins free of mistakes. I know this isn't Utica but at some stage JB is going to have to force WD hand by force feeding prospects to WD.
  5.     Is that really true, WD seems to be less trusting of a youth movement ( and why not it's his neck on the line, he reluctantly gave Bo a spot) ) while JB + TL are lets move towards youth. Just think where we'd be if we had introduced more youth last season....better prepared for this coming season
  6.     The forsberg deal was the deal that got McVee fired :-) There's a good argument to be made for both postions. I'm just worried that the brains trust that successfully promotedso so many youth into the Calgary line up are some how too stupid to see all the the plus signs for Beartschi. They've been close to the kid for a lot longer time than any of us. Plus of course Benning has admitted he relied on old scouting information when he swung the deal
  7.     Kind of confirms my own post made earlier. "I tend to believe JB relied on his scouting info from the draft year to make the decission !" Old information is bad information. Dangerous to find the price of oil dropped 6 months to late ! A man could loose a lot of money that way :-)
  8.     A lot of truth in your summary. Matthius is a 6'5 forward who plays like he's 5'6". He's on the move and let peace be with you brother LOL. BUT Matthius was a vet and what you saw was what you get, Beartschi an unknown factor, maybe high risk. The 2015 draft was supposed to be quality and quantity so the second pick is likely worth more than many years ....but you have wait for 4+ years before they play and JB & TL want action now, hence Beartschi and Clendening ...JB is hoping it jumps his program ahead by the same 4 year ie you get some one ready immediatley. High risk gamble IMO, lets hope it turn out to be a good one. It's like putting your pot all on red
  9. It's one thing for Calgary to give up on Beartschi but the fact when it came to moving him the only team Calgary could unload him to was a divisional rival. Few teams go that route and if you recall the Flames GM waited until the 11th hour to make the call to JB ...you want him or not ...yes or know now!. I tend to believe JB relied on his scouting info from the draft year to make the decission ! Beartschi had been under close scrutiny for a couple of years by their own in house experts ( they're not idiots) and playing in the AHL probably most other teams too. I'm not convinced the Flames GM stepped up to do a favour to JB... I tend to think he was the only guy/team that would take the risk
  10. What makes take a more realistic thoughts on Beartschi is this. I'm sure Calgary is not that dumb to only talk to a divisional rival with the thoughts of moving the kid ...is that a reasonable concept ? Surely other would have talked to them about boy wonder. A gifted player idling away in the AHL. So why did the others turn him down and Calgary offer him to a divisional rival who if he pans out can make their GM look like an idiot ? Some things just not right here
  11.     He better, he's leap frogged over the rest of the prospects. JB will give him every chnace to succeed.....Willy better be able to get this guy going.
  12. To be honset I think there's players ahead of Virtanen down in Utica. If gets a serious look ( 10 game try out ) I think it would be fare to suggest bias
  13. I tend to think that it's having them around Pro's to understand the commitment Pro's make, life style, gym work, food selection, time management. It helps a lot once they turn up for camp in September knowing what to expect..... IMO any ways. I doubt they'll see any game time but likely practise with the other Balck Aces. Tough for coaches to manage all the extras hanging around, but maybe fires up some of the Utica players
  14. Pedan was a 3rd round pick, Corrado a 5th round, Bieska a 5th, round Edler a 3rd round, Vrbata a 7th round, Bonino a 6th round, Matthius a 2nd rounder Christ half the team is post 1st round picks.... Hansen was a NINTH ROUND PICK should I go on. Benning is supposed to be the super scout. You don't need to be a super scout to see Baertschi has not progressed since his draft year. Clendening ( 17 games played 0+2 ) ... I think had a good year in the AHL the previous season and nothing much since. Let, not suffer from ostrch syndrome
  15. Virtanen is going to be an upgrade on a Ferland type player. Of all the top end Vcr prospects he has the lowest pts/ game ratio, that doesn't fit well with a lot of the praise he singled out for here. Cassels is putting up better number. But I think Virtanin will be fast tracked but mostly because he's a Benning pick
  16. Sven and Sbisa are going to be force fed to the Vcr fans. Can you remember a play when Svens brillinace stood out last night....me neither. For a skill type player he ....he just isn't. In a deep draft a second round pick is worth some thing. Jimmy you had your pocket picked by a rookie GM. And politics I'm sad to say is going to be a part of the future, Corrado, Grenier, Gaunce remaining in Utica while JB will fast forward Baertschi and Clendening, sign Sbisa to a nice contract and dump Stanton
  17.     Speed is relavant to the era ie there were fast and slow skaters then just as there is now
  18. Here's a fact Smyl was not a great skater**, Tiger William actually ran on his skates, but they could and did hit like a Mack Truck... smart can over some a lot and as I understand Gaunce is another example of this . . ** Punch McLean was a Detroit scout and he pleaded with them to take Smyl in the draft...they wouldn't touch him because " he was too slow" bad decission
  19.     He doesn't have to catch Ferland ...he has to imitate Ferland..... hit the Calgary D like Ferland hits Vcr D. Kenins certainly showing his lack of speed or he's trying to chnage his game. How many times do you see a new player come in and play really good .... and then the coach gets his hand on him and before you know it he's a shadow of what he once was
  20. I suspect Archibald is finished with the Canucks after this season. They've certainly shown him no interest or respect. In a series where we're getting mauled now should be his moment. It isn't and it won't so release him and let him try with an organization that might be looking for his talent ....who knows might be a good fit in Calgary. In addition if I'm Corrado or Grenier I'd be looking for alternative employment to Utica. With WD as the final selection guru there's little chnace in Vcr fop youth. You just have to look at how long he took to make Horvat a regular, he said he doesn't like youth. Boys time to move on
  21.     Gaunce strike me that his intelligence allows him to keep his eye on the prize. He understands the task and time needed but he's going to do what ever it takes. I've enjoyed his couple of interviews
  22.     Youth will not be served this coming September, you forget Baertschi and Clendening are guranteed roster spots. Believe Corraddo will leave Vcr
  23. I'm with you suitup. It's not unreasonable to have certain expectation for a 6th O/A pick. He was noted ( based on his stats for his draft year ) as a goalscorer and has certainly not kept that stat going this season. Maybe he's being put in a different role this year, I have no idea. But is their reason for concern, definitely
  24. You might get a 2nd round pick. Inetresting to look at the competition going on between Miller and Lack right now. Eddy ain't giving up his spot and Millers on the outside. Frankly it would be nice just for the Cap space
  25. Interesting to listen to the Calgary radio play by play man talk about SB. He willingly conceded his skill set but mentioned there's needs to be a big change in his attitude.
