KHL teams are apprently looking to cut salaries because of the ever weakening ruble. We might just see this guy earlier than imagined

Glowing report from Green regarding Pedan in todays Province
-
Not a great market for goalies. If Markstrom or Erickson for that matter have made it known they do not intend to resign then what's the point in playing them
-
Mantha http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=136790&encode=TRUE You won't see that dude this year in Det and maybe not next year either

Gaunce, playing I believe on the 4th line is 6th in team pts
-
Nyquist is 25 and Tatar has been in the AHL since 2009. Jensen is 21, we keep talking about development and then want to bi-pass it at the first opportunity
-
By all accounts he is not playing a heavy game which is one of his assets ( size ) I' thinking until he makes progress in that area he's going to be in the AHL. I have no false hopes that he'll be a scoring star but if he uses size who knows he may make it to the NHL. It's up to him how much he wants it

I don't know if you watch the world wide news service but if you do you'd have to think the KHL is teetering. The Russian ruble is is a nose dive ( not expected to chnage in the immiediate future ) players are paid in US$ but the income is paid in Rubles. Players and their agents want safty for themselves/clients and I'm sure that's the advise they will get. The value of the ruble has fallen by I believe 40% and teams are asking players to take salary cuts

These WJC is the first time I've watched Virtanen so it was very educational for me. And from my vantage point I'd have to say there has to be a few alarm bells ringing. On the positive side there was also talk about drafting Nick Ritchie and he was worse. I didn't watch a lot of the Swedes games but I wasn't that impressed by Nyalnder...a lot of individual play ...Elers put up comparible numbers to Virtanen. The guy that caught my eyes was Barbashev I think he was drafted by the Blues in the second round. The Russian captain undrafted Nikita Cherepanov looked OK too
-
Benning has to be showing at least some concern that when stepping up a grade Virtanen hasn't shown much. The WJC when compared to WHL is faster. I assume Benning is attending the WJC and is wondering where the great shooters shots have disapeared to. I like his physicallity but that doesn't replace scoring.

At the NHL level I'm thinking from what little I've seen Virtanen will fit very well, Nylander may too, but you can count on one hand the small under weight European players that make an impact. Here's the thing about small players if they don't play the first line their chnaces of making it further down the roster is slim.

Sauve never blossomed from midget forward and was a second round pick in the NHL amateur draft, his hockey IQ was not Major junior or NHL

Yep, I thought it out before I posted

Deffinitley a vanilla player. It could be different but he's vanilla here and from every thing I've heard he's vanilla in Utica. He has to do some thing.....any thing .... to make a mark. If that's get into a fight maybe if it's finish of a opponent with a heavy hit so be it, but he can't be that guy that the coach says...who's number 25 again
-
The coach has to put up his game roster every day with the expectations that he goes with the guys that gives him the best chance of winning the game...sounds obvious I know but there only so much you can gift wrap a game day slot to a player that is maybe not the best guy to bring a result. If Horvat wants to get attention from the coach there's one place he needs to do it ....on the ice, he has to be better than other players. For instance that not too subtle point has now been recognized by Matthias. I'm sure the coaches have made a point of highlighting this to him ...if you don't put more effort into your game you're going to be our selection for the press box ...the choice is yours alone

Funny ranking by Hockey Futures for Virtanen has him Realistic Probability rating as a "D" which equates to
-
Not so sure about waiving Sestito this division is a black and blue division, look at some of the rosters.
-
I don't believe Benning signed Dorsett to park him in the press box, or send Sestito down on waivers. Horvats in tough to make the team he needs to prove himself IMO
-
It's going to be tough for Horvat to make the roster IMO beause simply put there's NHL proved players ahead of him. I don't think it may have helped his cause when he turned up 10 lbs over weight at the Prospects Camp...you have to ask yourself why and what message does that send. Horvat should be worried when Benning signed Vey and Bonino to say nothing of Vrbata for the next 3 years. He best not turn up in September over weight
-
Detroit era of developing players was during the Non Cap Era. They left players in the minors because there was no room for them. They bought cups. Look at the last few years their drafting and development. Their best young D was a FA signing Dekayser, Smith and Kindl average at best before that it was Kronwal drafted in 2000...14 years ago. And PLEASE don't bring up Datysuk and Zetterburg, late round picks that even they passed over numerous times. And besides the scout that worked EU has retired. I'm thinking maybe Mantha might come through but there was never doubt about his skills it's his consistency that's why he was available when he was ...He should have been ranked higher...size and skill. The final staw that breaks the Camel (Detroit ) back will be Babcock leaving at the end of this season. This guy has gotten blood out of stones for the Wings
-
Why did Horvat turn up 10 lbs overweight to the prospects camp ..... and then admitts he needs to loose 10 lbs to compete. As Desjardine said if you want to improve it starts today....not next week or next month. Maybe he's guy that is going to have weight problem long term
-
The thing aboutTanner Glass he made it happen ...comparible skills although maybe older when he broke in. Arhibald has to be in the scrums, start the scrum ..... get a elbow in his ribs let him know you're there
-
I have to believe Archibald is a tweener. Pretty good at most thing exceptional at none. In short he's vanila. He has to do some thing that makes him stand out. You'd like to see him succeed, he's big reasonable skater has the required skill pach but doesn't shine and seperate himself from other vanila players. This is for Mr Archibald IMO ...this season make of break
-
You got that right. I like what Richardson brings he's alway in your face maybe not dropping the gloves but he's always initiating a shove here or there aggresive in fact I don't think many want much to do with him. Most of the Vcr roster react rather than iniatiate. I'd have the guy on my team any day. Solid defensively what's not to like
