  1. What stands out IMO is the fact as a 17 year old ( which means he was close to 16 at the begining of last season ) he scored 45 goals. There's few juniors that have done that. I understand the line he played on was pretty explosive all around so how much of that was Virtanen and how much his line mates... I guess we'll have to wait
  2. How about McNally is he attending ?
  3. So let's get this straight if some one doesn't agree with you ...you resort to insulting them. I noticed in that article Kuzma also mentioned that in three games at the Memorila Cup Horvat failed to score or even get an assist. And that was just one small step up in skill level...I think in the WJC he scored...one goal. It takes more than that to make an impression on me...but hey every one sets a different standard, The Sestito comment was in answer to a poster that intemated that he didn't feel we needed a heavy weight... I was just saying Sestito fundamentally filled that role for us, many teams in our division carry one or more tough guys. I'm not saying he's Rocky Balboa but he is proficient and answers the bell. I reacall years back Vcr had a tough guy named Brookbank.....Naslund stated Brookbank makes every player on our bench 6" taller. That matters
  4. Nice to know I'm not the only one that can see the Horvat predicament. As much as fans "want" Horvat to make it, the club has to make a judgement call....right now he has to eliminate a vet. That's just the way Benning has made this roster http://www.theprovince.com/sports/hockey/canucks-hockey/Kuzma+Horvat+knows+Canucks+junior/10009237/story.html Kuzma is not given to rash articles
  5. Good, call it the way you see it. IMO I suspect his star is not what it was and I have this thought building for some time, Horvat's stock is falling. To give up a starting goalie the envy of many teams in the NHL and end up with Horvat who is now talked about as a second line centre is looking more and more doubtful...that's the way I see it. You have a kid like Horvat after what you gave up for him he should be a stand out.....IMO
  6. Sestito plays in what has been referred to as the Big Boys league.....did you notice BB in Calgary loading up in tough guys... You need some one, you might not play him everynight... as to Hansen I agree he seems like a prime candidate to move...but if they were, why wouldn't they have done it rather than let his NTC kick in make things more difficult. Here's the answer teams are not fawning over Hansen...easy to say trade him ...a lot more difficult to do. I watched Horvat in the play-offs and the WJC...I needed his number to find him, as much as there's all this talk about him being up in Vcr next season I'm no longer convinced, like I once was. If he's in Vcr next season I just hope it's by merit.
  7. Oh they can blood Horvat on the wing too...teams often put centres from Junior on wing to lessen their responsibility. But we do have a 23 man roster signed already and that does not include Horvat or any of the youngsters ( does not include Vey but does include Markstrom ) http://www.capgeek.com/canucks/
  8. I hope Virtanane makes a big splash.... but can any one explain why or how his ranking was all over the map, some had him ranked 10th some had him ranked as low as 45th ? not a lot on unanimity
  9. maybe but Benning has signed a full roster already...Vey in means Horvat out ?? Strangely enough this has now appeared in The Province
  10. Reading a number of posts seems like there's some doubt creeping into fans opinions of Horvats future and the way the roster in lining up Benning is thinking along the same lines
  11. he can't and still qualify as amateur in the NCAA...so I believe
  12. I believe he was attending a training camp in New England ....so he was in the area....already. The Canucks spoke to him a week before the draft...so I think he had an idea some thing was coming down....good for him
  13. Exactly why do we persist in believing that all Canucks draft choices are going to have a very succesful career ahead of them....sure we'd LIKE them to goes without saying but and expectation Remember 66% of 1st round picks go on to having a career in the NHL...the success deminishes the lower in the draft they go. If you're a top 5 pick likely 100%, 5-15 maybe a 70% chnace and below that maybe a 25% chnace
  14. Todays trade de jour....St L. sends Oshie to Vcr for Kesler
  15. I haven't read all the posts but it would seem to indicate JB has targeted other players already and he needs to space to make his move
  16. That's the canundrum for Schroeder, if he can't hack the second line I don't see him beinga 3rd/4th line shut down kind of player. But saying that I'd still re-sign him and if he doesn't make the cut so be it...then you waive him down to Utica
  17. Listening to Nik Kypreos a little while ago he fundamentally said big guys just ware you down. They out battle you on the boards, they take a toll on your defensemen getting their faces made part of the end boards and big guy have a better reach and a bigger muscle mass. That's not to say there is no place for the smaller players...but there is a reason the league is not filled with small players !! ... sure there's a few...but 6' plus covers the majority of the players in the league and there is a reason. Can Schroeder who was rated so highly in the WJC make it.....lets just say there's a question mark hanging over him. Remember he's not only short but he's light 5'8"/ 175lbs Schroder like many small players will never push some off the puck. No matter what we may all think but Vcr has to go through, Ducks, Kings, St L, to get to the final...and then face Boston. Good luck if Schroeder is a 2 nd line centre
  18. Fans have to remember that Schroeder was drafted right after the NHL commish stated that the NHL intended to go for skill over brawn. Let the skilled players have the space to entertain....yaddah yaddah ..yaddah Gillis actually believed Betteman....unfortunately that's not what happened and Gillis was virtually left with a red face. The following year he chnaged direction and his belief in Betteman and started to go big and from that point on that was his primary thrust. Basically Gillis was conned by the league and set back the club two years with development
  19. That's pretty much the way I see it. I wish Horvat well and hope he becomes a main stay in Vcr,,,just show me some thing. Ehlers/other picks future is like any other prospect he has to satisfy any NHL coach he can take care of defense. The coaches job depends on it
  20. Maybe, but lots of teams ( Vcr included) always played the first forward back become the centre on defense. But I can't see Schroeder winning many battles on the wall. Here's the conundrum do you jettison that skill level
  21. Why not Ekblad both are ranked in the 1st round
  22. You don't rea well do you or atleast youdon't comprehend the point being made I quote myself here because you obviously missed it and by the way Boston also had Chara, Lucic, Boychuck, McQuaid, Thornton doing the heavy lifting and allowing the skill players to play...it's a team sport. That series actually turned around when Horton was injured and Thornton came in.
  23. I'm thinking when Benning or in fact Linden talk about heavy or big boy hockey they're thinking about the 3rd and 4th lines. They understand to play fast skilled hockey you need skill, and that will not exclude smaller skilled player, but if you can get a big fast skilled player then that's a bonus and they'll be looking in the future for those type of players. When Vcr drafts at 6th I'm confident they'll understand this is a are moment for Vcr drafting that high and will want skill first and fore most.
  24. Mattias is on the Vcr depth chart at LW. I don't see a problem with playing Schroeder in the same role as Cliff Ronning on the third line, two behemoths wingers on either side. It would help immensely if Richardson was centring the 4th line, with more skill. I quite liked Zalewski as a 4th line winger with Sestito as the 13th forward. Richardson, Hansen and Zalewski or Archibald gives you speed and tenacity
