You know I used to play that in my minor hockey coaching days I called it an "I" formation much llike a football play. The kids loved it and could often really blow am opponent away with a big hit. We were primed and waiting

one thing in McDoniughs favour is he has a coach here that believes in positional play which can help to minimize speed. ie you know where you should be and so does every other play know. That said the Tocchet systems seems to have failed Boeser, I hope they can on move from that guy. Personally I've been disapointed with him since his sophomore season in the league. If speed is the current trend then systems become important IMO

From all the comments from PA I tend to think Johansson will be here and then it's fingers crossed for Livingston
-
I believe the Right side D is being assembled for next season and fully expect Johansson to be included, which means chnace are after Myers bonus is paid out 1st July he's going to be out of here. Likely down to Arizona or Anaheim, Meyers actual salary wil be $1mill I believe but the Cap hit is $6 mill. Likely Hronek, Bear and Johansson and maybe Burroughs as a back up on the right side. IMO that's going to look pretty good, or at least above average

Woo's IMO is in tough. The game I think they wanted for him is a tough role to play. He's youg and smaller then other tough players. I don't think he's big enough to assert himself as tough guy role ?

The question is does hehave a NHL release clause in the contract ?
-
Two very good essentials. The qquestion maybe does he advance the game. I liked him in the limited minute I watched in the WJC but really not enough to make a valid judgement. The best news from both the WJC and the SEL is his ice time increased as time went along. Coached clearly liked what they saw, and if we're honest are in a far better position to judge. I often like to see who on the ice at period and games last few minutes. One player in particular that I watched this part of the game was Forsling in addition to the PP he wasaalways on the ice at the end of a period or game. Though I think his physical development held him back

I was in Bemidji a couple of years back and warched the team get put through thier paces in the gym, unbelievable. Most Uni's have trainers, physio's skill coaches etc etc for the players. They take the develpment very seriously, the Uni's prestige is on the line. Most fly now for long road trips. It's not only hockey, most of the USA athletes are in the Olympics are from the NCAA, including golfers, track and field, basketball and of course football. There's a lot of money invested. Strangely enough students are not going to university like they did before. Student debt is a major problem. Some students have incredible debt often lasting well into their adult life. This may be the dtermining factor for the future of hockey in the NCAA
-
Frankly it comes as no shock to me. They practise 4-5 ays a week + gym time and then generally play 2 games. The system is made for development. PLus of course it's an older league then the CHL, there's no 16 year olds in this league where you can pump up your stats. To me it's the NCAA, KHL and SHL

For sure!

Kuzmenko is the equialent of a top 5 pick IMO. Plus we have him for a further 2 years at $5mill/season. The way it's turned out it makes JR/PA look like they might know what they're doing
-
I think Brisebois has jumped ahead of Wolanin when he agreed to a new contract. Currently Wolanin is still a UFA at the end of the season, GB is signed for the next 2 years. Frankly on the Defensive side of the game GB is the better option IMO.
-
Kuzmenko is the counter argument about stick to the draft. An UFA from the KHL and unless I'm mistaken scored his 31st gola last night. Kuzmenko is the equivalent to a top 5 first round pick any day of the week. I suspect he's going to be better than Lkkermaki (sp ) Plus truth be told I didn't mind the Mikheyev signing, better IMO thanGarland I will mention however with the Cap being the determing factor you do need some quality players on ELC for a longrun in the play-offs
-
Whitecaps need a real goalkeeper LOL

Develop through the draft. That's not possible, assuming we get 1 first round pick per year ( and that's not guranteed ) it takes a long long time to reach the goal. We had 1 st round pick last year and we have one this year etc etc. Remember any thing beyond the first round has a 20% chance of success, they're tough odds. The fact is we need a lot going for the team other than the draft. Th draft is the cherry on the sundae. To manage a NHL team needs more expertise than sitting down each June and making a choice at the drfat, even that the odds for success in the 1st round stand at or around 60%

I understand what you're saying but honestly before yesterday I had no idea who or how good this guy is. He's no profile player. Lets hope he can settle in here and be a great addition. The point that worries me to a degree like in the past we're adding best described as modest player who maybe prevents us to getting a high quality player. Packing teh Cap with modest players does not advance the teams future. I hope this kid truns up trumps but we'll be screwed if he doesnt with our Cap
-
That's good I hope youre right. He's not a player that consistently mentioned ie in the eyes of others he's nothing special. The best we can hope for is he's a diamond in the rough. I can't sayin the few games I've watched of Detroit he never caught my eye
-
Frankly I was hoping for an upgrade rather than just a body on D. Seems like more of the same and maybe similar to OEL, expectations he will improve. He's currently injured so no one seems to know when he will play
-
This from a Detroit fan, a conservative one at that.
-
It looks like Kuzmenko is a quality signing he makes $1 mill less than Boeser and scord 17 more goals
