Jake Virtanen banner still up at Rogers place ( article)

Some posters are antagonists other want to challenge the norm, Cuporbust was the former in my mind, but I likely fall into the latter -
There's some logic to what you say Ron, especially about the tickets and the proof of vaccination on a Vcr rainy day. Frankly I don't use a Cel phone. As to the mask I hear what you say but me I'm a bit of a belt and braces guy. I prefer if evey one wares a masks. Just like a restaurant you walk in or leave your table you ware the mask if you're eating or at your table ( which are generally protected ) you don't. I like to think I'm cognizant of those around me and their well being .... big assumption Ron we're going to have some thing to cheer about I'd like to go on the opt out list too

How does that work, taking less. Most folks including Joe Blow like to take as big a salary they can. For instance OJ may suffer yet another injury this coming season, it's a real possibility and then where is he. I doubt if Vcr will have him insured He may of course carry his own insurence ( wise ) This is business baby, business
-
If you say so. No one, no one, accepts a salary below his value. Thats' blue sky thinking. The Cap numbers is not OJ concern, maybe they the length of the contract extended in a years time but he's still a RFA then and they only need to offer him next season todays salary plus I believe 10% an agent would be crazy to accept that ... in fact I'd sack the guy if that's all he can get me .... a up and coming blue line star. I'm sure his agent has polled the other teams .... that's his job. It's the tool the agent uses to get the best contract he can get bd by default his own commission
-
You're right about bias, I don't like what OJ brings and have said so quite openly, that's called my opinion. What i do see is thyis Rather than try and tie this guy up long term with an attractive salary, which i think is normal for s budding quality D, Vancouver management offered and he accepted the very very least thy could offer, short term ( one year ) and the league minimum salary. Thinks ..... why is that??? ... why with prospect of losing him to an offer sheet would they cut him off at the knees ( no pun intended ) were they scared another team would step in and make a better offer for instance, well apprently not so. They offered him what they did because they could! and OJ agent new that's the best he's going to do ( poor agent kicks the heck out of his commission ) Here's an idea, read the tea leaves You mention the other D'men and the mistakes they can make and that's fair, here's the difference they made a mistake OJ did it because he has a flaw in his game and skill level. I hope !!!! that OJ has miraculously been abel to rectify his falw in the summer and I'm proven wrong. But in the mean time I'll just go ith what I've seen, if that's OK with you
-
As I reall this is about ONE on ONE. The back check may help but the D'man knows exactly what he must do with or without a forward holding his purse for him. As I said kids learn this from the age of 10-12. There's no mystery. Sadly OJ skating does not permit this and I'm confident other teams coaches make mention of this in their pre game prep.
-
If that's the case why is he still so poor defending the rush?
-
Let me say this Alf playing a one on one is a basic play for any D'man. They learn that in Pee Wee. If u can't handle a one on one guess what you don't play D in junior ...period. It's an essential ingredient for any NHL, AHL, CHL D'man

And that my friends is how we contend in the Stanley Cup play-offs year after year after year, the facts just don't stack up, but that aside Benning has brought roaring sucees which has gone from' To his most recent prognostication of 2021 IMHO there's some confusion as to when this team will perform alongside other quality teams. Remember this these are not my words they JB's words

Yeah Vcr streets were paved with gold ( Dick Whittington ) and yes I have spent time in Winnipeg, actually have relatives there, I was in Winnipeg earlier this year. Hockey players are mercenaries. They go where they get the best money and the best chnace to progress their career. Winnipeg is also on the Ontarion border where a good percenatge of players come from, just south is the US, not a long drive ( have u driven the road down to the US from Winnipeg.) In Winnipeg he plays alongside Wheeler, Schiefle & Hellibuck. Having said all that I wouldn't want to live there The Jets did not wish to re-sign him
-
Well if it wasn't for his poor selection of FA's signing ( too many to list but lets settle for LE as a starter) and the resulting wasted Cap Space and the drafting ( by the scouting guru ) of JV, McC, OJ he seems to be OK. Failure to be a play-off team doesn't help much either. For his sake and the fans sake I hope he makes the play-offs this year or I tend to think Aquaman patience may grow thin
-
OJ can not defend the rush period. He may be taller ( which should be an advantage ) but his skating let's him down. His grading by management ( 1 year at league min. ) is not a positive review IMO. The whole league sees it so what can they do with him.. If he had been drafted in the 2nd round he'd have been released. Maybe loan to an EU league, keep his rights
-
I'd think the PP time goes to Hughes and OEL with Boeser on the other point. I'm sure Rathbone will be used in the practice. You ice the team most likely to win with and JR is ahead of OJ. I have no idea what they're going to do with OJ. Frankly OJ, JV and McC don't look good on JB scouting CV
-
I don't like Juolevis chnace Rathbone is ahead of OJ .... IMO
-
Rathbone is here to stay, it might give OJ a chnace
-
He played well for the Jets, right ?? then why did Chevy let him go when he is in dire need of a D core for really low salary ??? I've always admired Chevy as a GM and tend to think Winnipeg are lucky to hold on to him, so why ???
-
The thing about the lottery is no one is guranteed any thing, giving an offer sheet to EP was a guaranteed move and out come. PLus of course Seattle has Cap Space more so than Vcr

[Report] Jim Benning to return for next season
Fred65 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Just to throw in a thought re drafting Virtanen, McCann and Juolevi. Where would they have been drafted had not Vcr taken them soearly in the selection order. FYG Craig Button listed Virtaneen as a 2nd round pick, The London coach (Hunter) stated Juolevi would be a 2nd pairing D'man, that's not goood for a 5th O/A selection IMO. McCann you may remember was passed by other clubs becuse he had attitude problems. To me they were three poor selections and things only turned around when Brackett earned his spurs. He' brought system and every one thinking in the same terms to the scouting dept. Those picks were a high price to pay IMO, wasted, we should be better than we are -
Wow what a change for Virtanen. He's been offered From 6th O/A in the draft to a league min in the KHL. Ranked 6th in the World by Vcr to this, what went wrong and how did the IQ and character flaw was passed over ...... As Alex Burrows said he might get it some day Canucks draft meeting: Jake Virtanen - All Access - YouTube

If Vcr does not make the play-offs and JB remains with the club ( he has to have some photos ) then I predict he'll trade next years 1st round pick as well
-
I always thought Kevin Cheveldayoff was a pretty smart GM which leaves me scratching my head when he let him go. He wasn't expensive and had been in the Jets roster for I believe 4 years. What does Vcr see that Chevey missed after all those years.. It's wait and see for me
-
I believe he's an UFA 30th June 2022. For my part I think this became a personell problem with Management, I'm uncertain if the agent was part of the problem, he seemed amiable to sign in Vcr. He's no worse then most 6-7 D and certainly had the advantage of his size and if we're honest he uesed it to good effect on a number of occassions while he was still here. It's going to be a laugh if soome other teams signs him. Evey one gets up set about his attitude .... get over it ... think team fiirst

Decent article about NCAA propsects Canucks Prospects to Watch in College This Season (thehockeywriters.com)

I agree. Small goalies depend on athletacism and reaction which is usually the fiirst thing to fail ( reaction time ) You couldn't and shouldn't pass him in the draft ( although many did ) because he's good at how he plays
