  1. Circumstance will decide his fate, sad when you think about it. He's close enough to smell success but he'll need uncontrollable events for him to get a chnace
  2. IMO it became apparent that MacDonough had a good chnace about half way through the previous season ( rookie season ) while most had their eye's on Madden I kept thinking this MacDonough kid is no slouch and true enough he's pushing hard for recognition. To come from that far back a prospect has to have self determination and grit ...IMHO. We've been fortunate to have quite a few late picks showing that is can be done. Gaudette, Rathbone, Costmar, and of course MacDonough himself. Plus I'm not writing off Tryamkin yet either. All late picks. Our scouting has really picked the last few years, it's a shame we couldn't keep that group together
  3. He seems to have a decent turn of speed (straight line any way ) which bodes well for a player that size
  4. True If he's gone on LTI he'd still have been paid the same but wouldn't be on any ones Cap. We owe him nothing either and that includes respect
  5. Just like Luongo could have done, man he put it to the Canucks when he retired. Obviously LTI is the route to go except of course in Loungo's twisted mind he get's his moeny no matter what
  6. Interesting read by Justin Bourne in Sportsnet How three 'fringe' hockey departments operate, and what teams use them for (sportsnet.ca) and a particular paragraph If you run an NHL team, part of the gig of being involved in a physical profession is being rugged and reliable. The NHL normally has an 82-game season followed by two months of rigorous hockey. Nobody wants a delicate sports car that can do great things in theory, but isn’t road ready day in, day out. It’s half the reason some hockey people love reliable steel-and-not-plastic, pickup-truck-style hockey players. Showing up is half the battle.
  7. The thing about Tryamkin IMO is he offers a different diamension to the roster a one maybe we're missing
  8. I tend to think we'll be very lucky if we get one from that bunch. So here's the question which one of those you list would you want to make it ?
  9. I hope Juolevi is reading this forum ( as if ) because he has a genuine threat for his roster spot from Rathbone.
  10. When Covid is over and defeated the consequences will persist This is not good for athelets long term
  11. I'd agree with that, we do need some one just to keep the opposition respectful. He doesn't have to fight just be there when there's a scrum, returning the favours. I'm sure opponents are aware. I'd honestly like to have a true heavy weight, not for every game but just when need be and of course some one to explain that to Green. I can not see the benefit subjecting star players to intimidation and hope to get a PP which has a 28% success rate.
  12. Don't slam the door on your way out Mark. I could never understand why he got the gig to start with. He looks greasy and unhealthy and says this is the best Vancouver can find. His stand against masks doesn't say much about his intellect either. One thing I would like from the anthem singer is they stick to a strict time limit how long they sing for. Thousands of people plus the players waiting for the game, I like the anthem but too many singers see this as an opportunity to promote themselves ..... wrong, just sing the anthem ASAP and lets watch the game
  13. Here's the thing about being a pro, for most players any way. You look, you learn and you get better. On and off the ice. Your conditioning, your diet, your outlook. I recall Burrows ( who has to be a role model) once saying "Well maybe he'll get it some day" and that was during the summer. I'm glad he's up in Kelowna maybe get away from other influences in his life. He lacks the drive for a successful businessman or athlete. At 24 many are doing far more demanding careers and expectation than Jake. Seems like Benning has seen enough too,
  14. Come on, JV has been a pro for 5 seasons, he's likely 40% through his career. As a Pro he has already wasted millions of $
  15. Small thing, with Dipietro size he is forced to come out further cover as much net as Markstrom or Demko. You just know goalie pro scouts will be looking for these flaws to exploit. It's tough to exploit Markstrom he just doesn't have many flaws. I believe we'll appreciate Markstrom when he's playing for Calgary
  16. Thks Googlie I enjoyed that. One point to add as Daniel comes down into the slot Henrik was drifting out into open space drawinga opponent with him. Those two were brilliant
  17. To me it's mostly about the carousel of prospects and fans jumping after the draft from one prospect to the other, the next diamond in the rough. We apparently believe our prospects all have a great future ahead of them when in fact few will escape from the AHL.
  18. Edler for some reason seems to irritate many fans, And yet you could move that player to any team in the league. They'd all want him. We don't appreciate what he brings. I know Green does, and put him out as often and against the top players game in game out. It wasn't that long ago fans were asking to trade him, yeah right a good move ( not ) As a defenseman he's pretty high up on the list of quality, similar in a number of ways to Ohlund. On top of that he seems to be a foundational player amongst his team mates. I hope we can resign him after the expansion. That sort of experience is extremely hard to replace
  19. Yep! in ten years time he's going to be saying "If only, if only I wouldn't be working as a postman now)
  20. Mikey D I'm with you on that assessment. Not many goalies of that class are given up on for nothing. I think we'll find he'll be missed more than the loss of Tanev for instance. Fans keep going on about RHD but pass over on Markstrom. Demko, we hope is good but if fans are honest when Markstron went down at the end of the regular season Demko did not excel. He had an unbelievable run for 3 game in the play-offs. The question is which Demko do we get. It best be play-off Demko or we're in trouble. IMO it goes down to poor Cap Management. We new his contract was coming up and we new as Valliquette pointed out Vcr had an exceptional goalie. I tend to believe we'll see more Holtby that we expected, lets hope he finds his game again with the aide of Clarke. One thing for sure Calgary is going to be a lot better, you can count on that
  21. I think there's only one other goalie of note in the NHL, Quick in LA. That does tell you some thing. DiPietro is a reflex goalie and sadly reflex are an early failing with age. But he'll be good for a number of years

  23. These stats are getting old and I'm sure modern day stats are more sophisticated but the percentage used to be 65% success rate for 1st rounders and 20% for the remaining rounds ( ie mostly just good old fashion luck ) The higher you drafted in the 1st round the better chance. The mark was 100 games played in the NHL = success This in my mind kind of spells out a lot of how the drafting is done Behind Closed Doors at the Canucks Pre-Draft Scouting Meetings - YouTube
  24. Keep in mind he's playing in a lower league. I'll look forward to seeing him at WJC
