  1. But, unlike with Vancouver fan/media darling Motte, Garland is actually on the ice rather than injured or trying to draw-in to the lineup more often than not.
  2. I don't think anyone's literally saying "bring back AV/Torts", but, rather, give us a proven HC who commands respect and whom you won't have to guess whether or not they've lost the room or are in over their head in the NHL.
  3. And, not a President who simultaneously holds the GM title, either.
  4. Might as well put it out there. I've been thinking Babcock the last week myself. I wouldn't have been a year or 2 ago.
  5. By the same token, I think AV inherited a far more attractive team from Torts in New York than what John had here. Maybe you don't recall the Sun referring to the team John inherited as "already in decline"? They were 2 teams going in different directions. Specifically, 2 teams, with only 1 that was going in the direction it NEEDED to go.
  6. And, FA needs a President of Hockey Operations person above them both.
  7. So, a 3rd straight first-time NHL Head Coach. Yeah, that'll totally work.
  8. That was an AV team, not a Torts team. They weren't constructed to play his way. Just as he isn't wired to coach them the way AV did. I'd absolutely would've loved to see Torts coach THIS team. But, not a team with a veteran core approaching the wrong side of its prime years. Admittedly, that isn't something he's good at.
  9. There's talk on the postgame show about bringing in the twins for management/coaching positions. Let me rephrase that: FAN talk of that. You're spot-on about needing a President/Hockey Ops person, though. Nothing good can/will happen with this franchise without it.
  10. Not surprising, coming from a fan of this team, this market. Sure, winning isn't everything...but, yes, it ultimately is. The Vancouver Canucks will soon have a new Head Coach, and, eventually GM because they don't do enough of it.
  11. He'll find his way out of San Jose for sure. It's just a matter of how it happens and where he ends up, assuming it's in the NHL and not KHL. I'm not nearly as hyped about the prospect of Evander Kane-as-Vancouver Canuck in 2021 as I was in 2019, but, I'm also not going to be happy if he ends up resurrecting his career and life with a division foe, either. His trade value is at an all-time low right now. So, he can definitely be had. SOMETHING is likely to happen. The question is: will the GM who makes the move be getting a helper or a headache?
  12. But, he also said that changing the coach without also changing the players - 1 in particular - would produce the same result as what we're seeing now. You cannot ever convince me that this exact same group would also be just as miserable to watch under Mike Babcock as they've been under Travis Green. Anyone "close to the team" who honestly believes that really doesn't know what they're talking about, and, maybe, ultimately just has an axe-to-grind against that 1 specific player, for whatever reason.
  13. I've never been convinced that he does. He just never misses an opportunity to interject his own personal experience as an NHL player. Granted, he has that over probably everyone registered at this board, but, he just seems to hold that over the head of the listener even when it isn't REALLY appropriate or relevant. And, it REALLY grinds my gears that he's always bagging on Miller. I mean, it's constant. That was my feeling as I listened to his rant last night. That he was referring specifically to - but, without having the guts to actually say - J.T. Miller. as the root cause of what ails the Vancouver Canucks.
  14. That's actually a fair assessment of the guy. Keyword: intensity. He's the only Canuck forward who seems to possess it, and, gets bagged on for it (yes, Corey Hirsch, I'm talking about YOU). I've always liked his game before he became a Canuck, and, really respect that he actually seems to care on the ice. It's not something one can say about every top-6'r on this team these days. Vancouver being Vancouver, my ultimate fear is that he'll be traded for someone "nice".
  15. I do, too. It won't be long. Particularly if FA's traveling with the team on the road trip. There's just been no sense of urgency from management and, ESPECIALLY the bench. Not publicly, at least. Say what you will about long-departed John Tortorella, but, you never had to guess if he was engaged as an NHL Head Coach. Green, by contrast, seems on auto-pilot. Maybe he's just been numbed by the level of ineptitude?
  16. If Tyler Motte is skating on the Vancouver Canucks non-existent "top line", that's indicative of a problem. I was listening to the boys in the studio on 650 last week actually say with a straight face that the Canucks - Horvat's line, in particular after a strong showing by Garland and Pods - have "enough". I'm still scratching my head as to what they have "enough" of, and for what, exactly. No one on this team outside of Miller is even remotely close to resembling an NHL top line forward. Unfortunately, that also includes Bo Horvat. I've never been high on Motte, and, have never seen him as a long-term top-6 contributor. In fact, the addition of Garland - although a RW - is quickly making him obsolete with this team as a bottom-6 forward. Without putting on my full armchair GM gear, I'd love to see this team balance out its typical roster heavy-handed with LH shooters, and add a legitimate RH shot at C, regardless which line. If this team has "enough" of anything, it's LH shooters to use as trade bait to acquire one. Never any shortage of those in Vancouver.
  17. He can definitely be had, for sure. But, Pearson would have to go instead. Brock's not going anywhere. Only a mater of time before this particular dialogue gets moved to the Armchair GM'ing section.
  18. More waiting. Aren't you tired of that? And, yes, Kane and Toffoli. It was possible. I think you're a bit off if you're calling two top line wingers still on the right side of 30 "aging vets". Don't you expect more from this franchise though, than the annual hype of younger players who don't pan out, even when the bar and expectations are set low? I'd love to see some of the younger players we've seen get their first NHL action the last 2 seasons develop, but, just not in the top 6 like too many CDC'rs are projecting. Sorry, but, 2020 was a fluke. This is not a playoff team next year without a couple of top-6 calibre under-30 wingers flanking Horvat. And, to your point, sure, it's "not hard to find wingers". Particularly, for the top-6. If you're just looking to fill roster spots and aren't necessarily aiming for the playoffs, that is. But, yeah, you be sure to let me know exactly when you think it's time for the Vancouver Canucks to finally "go for it". I don't want to miss that.
  19. I think there’s a difference between actually “following” a player since draft day versus merely being familiar with their name. Particularly if said player is only 19 and hasn’t even been playing in North America. Unless you’re with the scouting department, I think it’s far more likely to have “followed” Juolevi since draft day than Podkolzin. At least with Juolevi there’s a sample size from the AHL and NHL to critique. You - nor any other CDC’r - cannot convince me today that you’ve already seen enough of a 19-years-old kid from the KHL to have determined he’s NHL-ready - particularly on the top line - for next season. But, yeah, let’s totally hype him up (this is where the deadpan emoji would go).
  20. Again, the absence of Pettersson as a linemate greatly affects and increases his responsibilities. Particularly if Green doesn't seem to trust/have anyone else to fill the void on that line. Not sure who you think could/would be better. This team does not currently have anyone other than Horvat and the Lotto line who are proven and legitimate NHL calibre top-6 forwards. Not for a team that has playoff aspirations for next season, it doesn't. Sorry. And, speaking of playing as a winger, I'd love to see the team convert Pettersson back to that, as I don't think he's the playmaker Miller is, just as Miller isn't the sniper Pettersson is. And, I think you and the rest of the CDC-get-rid-of-Miller crowd (if you're part of that) are fooling yourselves if you believe his high-risk/high-reward style is as unattractive to other NHL coaches and GM's as it is to CDC'rs and Corey Hirsch. It would be fitting, but not-at-all-surprising to see him moved and flourish elsewhere. But, fortunately, Green showed this season that he has his back. One of his few admirable qualities as head coach of this team.
  21. CDC'rs getting unnecessarily hyped behind a young new addition they really don't know that much of anything about. Kinda like with Vey and Tryamkin, remember? I even read at one of the Sportsnet Canuck forums a couple weeks ago someone actually said with a straight face the Canucks top-6 is "pretty well set." "Pretty well set" for what, exactly? We don't know anything about this kid, but, CDC'rs already have him slated for the top-6? I'm guessing those are also the same CDC'rs who want to dump Miller, and think Pettersson should be centering the top line rather than the captain. 53's capable of #1 C minutes and status in the NHL, but, GMJB absolutely HAS to put legitimate and quality top-6 players at his side. Not rookies and sophomores. To think there was a genuine window of opportunity where the Canucks could've had a top line today of Kane-Horvat-Toffoli. GMJB should be working 24/7 to put something comparable together sooner than later if this team is going to go forward with Horvat still on the roster.
  22. How can anyone not get that Calgary did what the Canucks thankfully didn't: sign both Markstrom & Tanev to what could easily end up as albatross contracts?
  23. Where does he do a poor job of "holding himself accountable", though? I'd love to know what you mean by that. And, if he was guilty this season of "trying to play as if though he is Mario Lemieux", maybe you failed to notice he was likely asked and expected to do more in the absence of Pettersson?
