I thought Alex Auld did a good job in the booth before they hired Hirsch. Corey's definitely in love with the sound of his own voice and jokes. I sometimes get the sense that Batchelor just tunes him out. Particularly, when Hirsch is busy chuckling at his own jokes.

Sorry I'm just now seeing your reply. I don't think losing is healthy for a team, either. This franchise typically is full of boring and nice guys with no fire. I think that's why guys like Kesler and Miller stand out. This market tends to gravitate more towards guys who are scrubbed clean enough to bring home to meet the grandparents. But, I'll never be convinced those are always the best players to have if your favourite team is even remotely interested in winning a championship.

He's definitely a high-risk/high reward-type player. But, I don't think there's anyone else on the squad that brings it like he does, and, I get sick of hearing Corey Hirsch dog him every week because he shows emotion after making a mistake. Contrast that with what happened tonight after Demko gave up that 3rd or 4th goal ( I forget which), and clearly "showed emotion" in frustration towards his teammates, and gets a pass. But, Miller does it out of frustration at himself and people want to run him out of town. I think he's on the verge of being the Canucks best 2nd line C since Kesler if he doesn't get traded within the next year. Yes, I know EP centres the 2nd line (when healthy), but, hopefully, the next head coach will realise he's a legitimate sniper wasting away at C and will move him back to the wing.
-
Okay, so, you're saying EP is your #1 Centre over Horvat next year? Or, maybe Miller? 'Cause, if you break up that line, that likely means Horvat is no longer centering your top line. Remember, EP played, what, less than 30 games this year? That's hardly a generous sample size. There's nothing wrong with a healthy second line of 40/9/6. And, yes, I'd play 40 & 9 interchangeable at C & LW. The larger offensive issue that will prevent this club from appearing in the playoffs going forward is not having legitimate top-6 quality line mates for 53.
-
Interesting take. That's actually how I feel about Motte. He's obviously not a top-6'er, and, I'd like to see some of the kids compete against him for LW3. After Pearson's traded, preferably. I think Motte's ultimately too small for the 4th line, too, but, did take strides this season. I'll give him that much. But, I'm not convinced he's a long-term keeper, though. I think of him just as many fans thought of Gaudette: took some strides last year, but, regressed this year. I wouldn't be surprised to see the same from Motte going forward. And, just like with Kassian, I believe the Canucks will have held onto him a year too long and should've moved him when his stock was at its highest.

I'm just looking for the bit where he actually said what YOU reported he said and is planning on doing. But, I don't see it anywhere, bud. You're speculating. Perhaps, voicing an opinion, even. But, opinions aren't proven facts.

Or, you can just, you know, read what he actually said verbatim and take it at face value rather than putting your own spin on it.

I think TNT will be guilty of that more than ESPN will. -

Oh wow! I hadn't even thought of that! You KNOW that's coming. They'll try to milk that for all it's worth. -

I'm torn on that one. They were here 41 years before they moved. An expansion team won't be able to replace those memories. Not for those of us here who had been fans since the '70's and '80's. It just won't be the same. And, it's because of the way they were moved to OKC that the league likely won't go anywhere near approving another franchise relocation anytime soon. I do think we'll eventually get the 31st franchise through expansion - assuming the arena in the Stadium District does get built at some point - but, the league and game itself have both changed for the worst since 2008 that I'm genuinely questioning if it'd be worth my effort & time to invest emotionally & financially in the "Seattle Sonics" again.

No, it's not "more difficult". It's still possible for the league to go back to the same scheduling the NBA uses in a full 82-game season. Meaning: each team visits every team in the opposing conference once during the regular season. That still leaves plenty of games against Conference and Division opponents, and, every rink in the league gets to host the individual stars from the other Conference that the league loves to promote nowadays.

While true, I still think the Kraken would be making a big mistake in trying to manufacture a geographical rivalry with Vancouver. Personally, the prospect of regular season games between the 2 franchises doesn't move me at all. Certainly not to the point of developing a genuine dislike for them. There's no history there. Especially playoff history. There's nothing there at all. It's barely different from when Vancouver was awarded the Grizzlies. As a Sonic fan, that didn't mean anything at all to me. I genuinely fail to see Canuck fans in Vancouver getting wound-up because there's now a team in Seattle. You can't have a "rivalry" between 2 teams with no prior history between them. I think there's a lot of "hockey fans" down here who have yet to grasp that.

You know, I was actually all set to abandon the Canucks - they've been the "home team" down here, obviously - even though I've been a fan since the mid-'90's. All the Seattle NHL group had to do to ensure my addition to the fanbase was NOT name the franchise Kraken. Really, that's all they had to do. In hindsight, I'm glad they did. I'm really not the type of sports fan who jumps from team to team. Liked the same MLB squad since 1981, and have repp'd the Seahawks since 1982-83. Hell, I still rep the Sonics. Other than when they go against the Canucks, I'm sure I'll be generally apathetic towards the Kraken.

I'm stuck with it. I live in Seattle and don't have CBC as part of my TV package anymore, and, haven't bought a Canucks season TV package from NHL TV or whatever it's called for 2 years. You aren't missing anything by not listening to SN650. I'm having a hard time remembering why there were so many people at this board who complained about TSN 1040 when they held the rights. Those guys were broadcast HoF'rs compared to SN650.

Depends on who you consider to be the Canucks "elite young talent".
-
I'd love to see that pairing as well. Hughes needs a solid RD to clean-up his mistakes. Preferably someone around age 25. But, it won't be Jones.

You’re actually counting on “franchise cornerstone” (GMJB-speak) Brandon Sutter to be healthy enough to make a contribution and/or finish the season as a Canuck? Yikes! That’s setting the bar pretty low, bud. And, you really see Gaudette centering the 3rd line next year? You’re sure this is a playoff team if he is? I’m not.
-
What proof do you have that it was Subban-as-locker-room-risk that ultimately drove GMJB in another direction? You don’t think cap hit had anything to do with that? Especially since they’re already overpaying Tanev and just re-upped with Edler. And, exactly what Kesler-like ship-jumping skills has Subban ever displayed? His refusal to sign an offer sheet with another squad while he was with MTL wasn’t sincere?
