  1. What a trade. CGY did well. They'll compete for sure next season. They have a selke caliber C in Lindholm they have a great D and Huberdeau is a player. Great trade.
  2. Generational power forward. No doubt. Very few players score 30 goals 100 pims. Todd bertuzzi did it. Both tkachuk brothers and their dad. They don't come around often.
  3. Straight 30 years ufa. That's what's needed If NHL doesn't do that and this league turns into NBA then nhl won't survive. We can't have 3 yrs development in nhl and then build a team around that player then players leave soon as team starts winning.
  4. Tkachuk is a unicorn. A superstar power forward.. Teams should be lining up to trade for hom but he holds the cards.. NHL needs to fight hard next CBA to get UFA age to 30 yrs..
  5. I basically agree that all those things re decline injury etc. But I don't want a trade just to make a trade. I'd only trade him if we get a really good return. Or wait until tdl and see where this team is at that point in time.
  6. In October 2022 when Gaudreau starts his 7 yr contract with CBJ he'll be 29 yrs 2 month old. Miller's next contract will start in October 2023 he'll be 30 yrs 7 months old. Give or take a few days. So basically 1year 5 month difference in age when they start their contracts. I don't understand what you are arguing. Or what point you are trying to make. Are you saying that 1 yr 5 months don't matter? If that's is your position I completely disagree. That 1yr 5 months does matter. Edit: seems to me you are saying it's only a 5 month difference. Miller is not starting his ufa contract this year like Gaudreau is. Miller is signed for the upcoming season. If Miller's next contract is 7 years like Gaudreau signed he'll be 37.5 yrs old when it ends. Gaudreau will end his contract at 36 yrs old. That's a big difference imo. I wouldn't give Miller anything more than 6 years on next contract. Preferably 5 years. Money will depend on how he does this next season. If he gets another 99 pts season he'll get 8.5. It remains to be seen. We'll talk about it when he's ufa next summer.
  7. Most Canadian players don't want to play in Canada either. How often do star UFA players sign in Canada... Kudos to the 2 Russian players we just signed. Mikheyev and Kuz both chose Vancouver. I've always felt a team needs couple of Russians on their roster. I think Yzerman believes in that as well. He had the Russian 5 helping him win Cups in DET. He drafted Kucherov Vasilevskiy and Nemetnikov and traded for Sergachev in Tampa.
  8. You maybe right. No one really knows what Pens will do. I don't even think they know at this point .. all depends on how Smith does at camp and pre-season. In NJD he had a horrible season. He can't pkay defense. He gets beat and beat bad.. hands out grade a scoring chances against like candy on Halloween. On a team like the Pens he will not stick of he keeps getting bear like he did last year.. I think NJD rushed him. Should have left him in minors and develop. His sophomore season was about as bad as it could have been. Maybe it was the coaching. Hamilton and Severson had off years as well.. Good on him if he can stick. I think for his career a new team and time in the AHL might be the best thing.
  9. If we trade away Myers we are two top 4 RHD short. I think we should be trying to add top 4 RHD not trade away the only one we have...
  10. Thats crazy how most teams struggle to have enough RD but Pens have an abundance of them. Yan Rutta will likely play of hand. Or maybe another trade might be in the future. Too many RD is a great problem to have and I wish Canucks had that problem. Letang Dumoulin Pettersson Petry Rutta (RH) Ruhwedel Rutta likely plays LD. Ty Smith will be fighting with Friedman for 7D spot. Most likely on a team like Pens who are trying to make noise in the playoffs he'll be in minors. His horrible defensive game just won't be tolerated on a veteran team like Pens..he'll get a year in AHL to try to learn to learn to pkay D with getting a few games as injury callup. 7D job is just to hold the fort and not make big mistakes allowing goals against. That is Smiths biggest problem. He makes big mistakes and the puck ends up in his net.
  11. Sure. But targeting doesn't explain what they were willing to trade for him.. were they willing to take him as a pens cap dump and sending a 2nd or a 3rd the other way? Or send a cap dump back to even out the trade? Because if they wanted him and offered a 2nd it would have been a very easy trade to make.. he went for a 3rd.. Were they targeting him by offering Rathbone and a 1st? Or were they targeting him by offerig cap dumps like poolman and Dicks going the other way..
  12. Ty Smith can't play defense. He's part of the trade because he'll be in the minors, he's waiver exempt and no cap towards Pens.. Pens get a 3rd for Marino plus cap space to trade for Petry and upgrade the position.
  13. Ya if Pens took a cap dump back ofcourse you take a RHD cap dump from them.. Marino would have been a regular on our RD but not the answer to our D issues. Poolman for Marino would be OK. 2.5 out 4.4 in. But Pens are trying to create cap space just as Canucks are. Marino was a pure cap dump and Pens couldn't take salary back. Ty Smith is AHL bound and Pens get a 3rd
  14. How can you guarantee what Burke and Hextal are thinking. D I'd love to read your correspondence With them.. He's a throw in who can go to AHL. Pens can hope he turns out to be a player but right now no one thinks of him as a valuable asset.. This trade was essentially Marino for a 3rd. NJD had to move a 1st round mistake. He's what is called a 1st round bust..
  15. Marino was a cap dump. We don't need assets to aquire him. This management didn't want Marino. JR signed him to a bad contract in PIT. He wasn't going to double up his mistake by bringing that bad contract to his new team.. He had a great rookie season. But it's been all downhill since then.
  16. I don't know what Deniro is smoking. Lol.. Ty Smith was the worst player in the worst team in NHL. He'll be competing for a spot in the lineup and be lucky to take 7D spot. I agree. If I was a betting man AHL.
  17. The guy was one if the worst players on a bottom feeder team.. what are you taking about.. he had a horrible season with NJD.
  18. Ty Smith is coming off a terrible season. He'll be competing for 6D on Pens. Most likely a 7D. He's a one dimensional offense first Dman who can't play D.
  19. Which Dman do you think we missed out on because of those signing. I'm not aware of any thing we missed on. Nothing from media reports. And where would we be able to get the 2nd fastest forward in the league after McDavid. A 20 goal scorer elite PK guy at 6'3 200 lbs. Look what Nichushkin did for COL last cpl years. Mikheyev is tenacious all over the ice. Brings speed to burn. Elite pk guy.. and signed to a very reasonable aav and term. Especially as UFA. He wanted to be here. He said after visiting Vancouver several times due to covid division re alignment he fell in love with the city and the team. When you get an opportunity like that you don't say nah.. we're waiting for a Dman. Which Dman? We don't know.. but we're not improving our team any where else because we're waiting for a dman. That's juts the wrong way to go about things when we need Improving up and down the lineup.. It would be different if we only needed a dman. That's not the case.. we need better players at all positions.
  20. Marino is 25yrs old. Not a 21 yr old young kid. His contract was not worth what he brings. If it was they would have got a lot more than a 3rd. We got 3rd from OTT for Hamonic
  21. This team desperately needed upgrade at 4C and some speed and tenacity in middle 6 You don't make a trade just to make a trade. This is a marathon not a sprint. You upgrade at any position you can. When you see an opportunity to upgrade you do it. This team needs speed and sandpaper in a very bad way. The signings at forward bring some of that.. they still need more players with speed at forward and if another opportunity presents it self via trade to upgrade forwards I fully expect mgmt to do it.. You don't pass on those players because you're waiting for a Dman that may not come A RHD is not the only thing this team needs. They desperately need speed skill and tenacity at forward just like they need upgrade on D Multiple holes need to be filled on this team.. and mgmt will keep improving which ever position they can.. goalie is only position we are set with a top tier starter. Forwards and D all need lots of upgrades.
  22. Marino had a great rookie season and that's about it.. He hasn't been good last 2 seasons. That's why he's a cap dump.. JR signed him to that deal in PIT. His salary is well above his cap hit going forward. He'll be making 5+ mill and 6+ mill in years 3 and 4 of his 5 year deal.. He's not worth the contract based on his play last 2 season. Hence the cap dump.
  23. Vast majority of nhl players are at 90% of their peak at 24 yrs. Forwards are at their prime at 27 to 28 years age. That is exactly Miller's age last season. He peaked and hit prime exactly when he was supposed to... That's according to a UBC study. https://news.ubc.ca/2014/05/15/nhl-study/#:~:text=Twenty-five-year-old,forwards%2C new UBC research finds. I found it kinda funny I was working at UBC the week ths study came out and I heard about it on SN650 while I was at UBC. So I remembered it and Googled to find.
