[Signing] Flames re-sign Nikita Zadorov
WHL rocks replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Wonder if Canucks made an effort to sign Z. That's a pretty good deal and only 2 yrs. I think Canucks are looking to get skill and speed on D. Probably no real interest in Z. But that's a good deal for CGY. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
WHL rocks replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Not necessarily a full rebuild. A major retool. Miller will be gone anyways. Either trade or he'll leave as ufa. Yes if the offer for Horvat something you can't say no to ofcourse you trade him. But him being ufa next season no one is going to give up the farm for him. It'll be a similar return as Miller imo. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
WHL rocks replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I doubt they're thinking of trading Horvat. That is too much of a shake up for this team at this stage. But if both Miller and Horvat are here at tdl and this team is a bottom 10 team I wouldn't be surprised if both of them are traded at the deadline for a major shakeup and bring in younger roster players prospects and picks for a major retool. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
WHL rocks replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
It would be a mistake to chase something and over pay via trade or UFA for a Dman. They have plenty of time. It's only July. After free agency period ends and the dust settles trade opportunities will come along to improve the D. I fully expect a couple of forwards to be traded. Any or all of Pearson Garland Hogz Rathbone could be gone. D will improve with trades. They've added grit speed and skill at forward. Can't do everything at once things take time . Can't just make a trade for the sake of making a trade. Right deal has to come along to pull the trigger. They have plenty if time -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
WHL rocks replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
They just signed Kuz and the 2 ufas today. They're improving the team to compete now. Haven't sold anything for picks or prospects. Why would they rush to trade him. They have until the tdl to re sign him and to see how this team performs. They can trade him at tdl get same or better package than they would now. They want to further improve the team by upgrading D. Looks to me like they want to compete make the playoffs and won a couple of rounds. Trading Miller for a 4D and a prospect won't get them that. If they suck at tdl and don't look like a solid playoff team they can sell and retool with picks and prospects at that time. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
WHL rocks replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Why would he become a distraction. Plenty of players play out the last year of their contracts. Look at all the UFAs today. They all played out their contract. Why would it be such an issue with Canucks. That's a non issue. Just over analyzing and over thinking a non issue. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
WHL rocks replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
You may be right. Perhaps we'll get an offer JR won't be able to refuse. Something too good to pass up like a top pair RHD But for me all signs point to them keeping Miller atleast until tdl. They're building upon what we have not selling for picks and prospects. I think they trade for a mid level RHD and that's the roster to start the season. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
WHL rocks replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Miller not getting traded now. He'll be here at the very least until tdl. They'll try to re sign him by then. Lots of time between now and then. If team is competitive they might not trade him at all. JR amd PA clearly plan on being competitive making playoffs and trying to win a couple of rounds. They'll improve the D next via trade. -
[Signing] Canucks sign Ilya Mikheyev
WHL rocks replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Well if he's a middle 6 he'll definitely be playing top6 1st and 2nd lines are top 6. 2nd and 3rd lines are middle 6 3rd and 4th lines are bottom 6.. He'll definitely get 2nd line TOI. I think it's a very good signing. He's 27 yrs old. Big guy with speed and high motor. A couple weeks ago I read an article saying this guy is the 2nd fastest skater in the league after McDavid. That's a lot of speed. -
(Rumour) CGY Gaudreau seeking 10mill+ per year on new deal
WHL rocks replied to RWJC's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Burakovsky on Caps makes less sense imo. They need a top line playmaker to replace Backstrom. NJD could go after him. That would make sense.. I think with Kadri leaving Avs will try retain him. He'll come in around 5 mill on a good team.. Oilers can give term because they don't need to worry about cap after McDavid contract expires. He'll be gone as UFA. Maybe they go after Zadorov at around 4 mill per season. Shore up that D real good. But Burakovsky on 3rd line would be great as well. Oilers have 4 seasons to put the best team possible on the ice to win a cup or two. After that McDavid will be gone.. Draisaitl has 3 so realistically 3 seasons is all the Oilers have. Draisaitl will also leaves as ufa after 3 yrs and they might as well trade McDavid for a huge haul of picks and prospects at that time. Both will leave when their current contracts expire. -
Thank you. I read earlier he was offered 4.5 over 4 yrs. Just saw 4 yrs 5.1 mill. Very solid deal for Oilers and Kane.. Holland doing great things in EDM.. I honestly have no doubt in my mind the powers that be played a part in Kane returning to Oilers with that deal.. His agent obviously knows and I suspect it was proposed to Kane that this was the best thing for him.
-
Yes I do. We don't know the full details so it's more of a guess or assumption on my part. But I have been trying to keep up with it and it seems like it'll be a settlement where Kane gets total sum of his Sharks contract. What ever he makes with new contract will be topped off by Sharks to make him whole. Seems like a fair way to do things..
-
Campbell had no D structure in front of him in Toronto. With Woodcroft as coach Oilers finally have a defensive structure the team plays with. Campbell is a very good goalie and it'll show with the Oilers next season.. Need Kane re signed and they're in business. Duncan Keith retirement made this signing possible.
-
Wow surprisingly good signing. Surprised because I didn't think Oilers would get a upgrade on goalie without a trade.. Holland doing good things..Oilers needed this in a bad way. Smith was great first 2 rounds but his age caught up and he was just too tired to be able to make a save vs Avs. I wouldn't be surprised if no one offers Kane more than the 4.5 mill Holland offered him. He was good in EDM and it would be great to see him back there .. McDavid is the greatest player in the world right now and I think it's good for NHL and hockey fans if he's in the playoffs making runs. With kane he's likely to win his case vs SJS and he'll get 6.33 mill aav 3 year remaining salary he'd be making with the Sharks for next 3 seasons. Plus his losses from last season... If he's making 4.5 somewhere else SJS will have to cover the remaining salary. I don't think he'll be getting more than his contract was worth with SJS combined from his new contract and his previous contract with Sharks.. That's the way I see it going. Thank to RJWC Kane has re signed with Oilers. I was out if touch for a few hours.. thanks mate..

(Rumour) CGY Gaudreau seeking 10mill+ per year on new deal
WHL rocks replied to RWJC's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Backstrom missed half the season last year and has been struggling for 8 years and now it's gotten so bad he had to get hip resurfacing. It's like getting hip replacement Two NHL players have had the same surgery. Kesler never played another game after he had same surgery as Backstrom. Jovanovski took a year off played 37 games and never played again. It's more likely Backstrom never plays again. I don't believe anything a GM says going into free agency when everyone is competing to sign UFAs or make trades to improve roster. Why would he show his cards. JR just came on 650am today said they haven't had any offers for Miller. That's just being a good GM. Not saying it's going to happen but GM saying something like that a day or two out of free agency day is worth nothing imo. Edit typo -
(Rumour) CGY Gaudreau seeking 10mill+ per year on new deal
WHL rocks replied to RWJC's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
JG is a great play maker him self. He's one of the best play makers and set up guys in the NHL. He can score but his ability to make plays and set up his linemates is what makes him great.. that's why he's going to get 10 mill. JG and OV might have the best line in the NHL if Caps can get a 2c to play with them. Their C doesn't need to be offensive.. just a good 2way C like Brendan Morrison was with Naslund and Bertuzzi. Then put Oshie Kuz Wilson on a line and they're in business. Eller is a great 3C but maybe he'll have to play 2C with OV and JG and they find a cheap 3C. -

Oh for sure. Seider is 50 pts Dman at 20 yrs age as a rookie. Won the Calder for rookie of the year. What a stud. And this kid is top pair RHD which is hardest player to get. He's big physical hits scores passes skates.. stud.. Super star in the making. I wanted him so bad at his draft but was not surprised at all Y took him early. Him and Makar are the future of the NHL on D. DET will be pretty good soon. The Raymond kid is another star in the making. Also had a great rookie season. If not for Seider he would have took the Calder. -

NJD needs a bigger wingman for Hughes. Jack is tiny and Hishier is 175 lbs... why add another tiny guy at 10 mill 7 years.. Cant have top line with Jack and Johnny.... 2 160 lbs guys making top tier money. A team like Caoitals should go after JG. Backstroms 9.2 mill will be off the books completely or on LTIR at the very least he had hip surgery and not too many players can come back from that. They pay that 9.2 towards Guedreau and they're rolling. -

Y picked Seider as his 1st pick. He's a beast. On his way to being elite as soon as DET comes out of thus rebuild. And Y picked that sweedish kid. Last year. The big kid on D. He's LD. Seider is RD . They can double shift them together when needed and on separate pairs regular shift. They'll have 2 great pairings with each on a top 4 pair..the kid is going to be another stud. -

Great post. I think that was the Wings head coach Blashil at the time he was Hughes national team coach with team usa. He had coached Quinn at world's. I think his input must have made Wings pass. Otherwise a local Michigan kid with Quinns skills would have been a no Brainer for the Wings. His size is a big issue. He's a one dimensional player. McDavid tried to walk around Makar and got shut down with Makar skating backwards. The kid is special. Like you said we got lucky. But there is no comparison with Makar. That kid is top 3 NHL player not just D. Besides McDavid no NHL team would trade Makar for any other player. The kid won Norris Conn Smythe and the Cup at 23 yrs age. As good as McKinnon is Makar drove the Avs to the Cup. Amazing player. Not fair for any other player to be compared to him. -

I think CGY would gladly give him 11 mill plus.. player like him don't come along often. I think he's going to go ufa though. Then sign with a Cup contender in the US. CGY will trade him at the tdl if they can't sign him by then. This year they thought they can make a deep run. -

Why would he hold out. His QO is 9 mill for next season. There's nothing to hold out over. He can play it out and go UFA. -

Trade him at the tdl then. Not sure why it's terrible for the locker room if he comes in without an extension or doesn't get traded before the season starts. If this is a 100 pt team then keep him try to win a cpl rounds . We can't be like BUF in a decades long rebuild. -
[Signing] Avalanche re-sign Valeri Nichushkin
WHL rocks replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Nichushkin is a more complete 200 ft player. He's better on Dside than Horvat. No doubt about it. And plays behind COL super stars. Horvat gets 1 min per game more PP time and put out same offense as Nichushkin with Horvat playing 8 more games. On D side Nichushkin is by far the better player. 20th in Selke voting. That's great considering he's a winger not a C. His size motor and back check are better than Horvat.. For the Canucks Horvat is more valuable because what do they do for 2C without Horvat.. but if you don't take team needs into account Nichushkin is the better player right now..
