[GDT] Wild @ Nucks - Feb 19 2020 - 7:30pm Pacific - SNET

Well he said it sucks being traded. Hes not happy to leave LA and said it wasn't his choice to leave. But hes bff with Pearsson and like the direction our team is going and the young players on the team have good future. He'll be willing to re sign I think. If he fits in well they make playoffs I think JB and Toffoli try to make it happen if numbers work.

When talks broke down Sunday JB thought they were out. Blake had told him LA going in a different direction. Blake called back Monday to re start talks. I think JB added the conditional 4th at that time and deal got done. I think more than likely Toffoli re signs. JB will move out salary and let cpl players walk as UFA and RFA. Bring in couple cheap young players from Utica and sign Toffoli to extension.

Jim Benning Press Conference [Toffoli add, Boeser, Levio injuries]

Hogs and Podz are off limits for getting traded. They are both going to be very good top 6 forwards with us. The type we need to win a Cup. Elliotte FriedmanFebruary 18, 2020, 3:35 PM I get this one from the Canucks. From what I understand, they made it clear two prospects are not going anywhere: Nils Hoglander and Vasily Podkolzin. And I think they were worried on Sunday night that they’d lost out on Tyler Toffoli, only to have talks resume Monday. -

It's better if hes not. Because that would make it 8 players instead of 7 We know Tram can step in today and be a very good 5D in NHL. -

JB has said before he thinks 2 or 3 kids will come in next year and he sees at least 2 kids coming in making the team every year for the foreseeable future. This isn't new. He's felt this way since earlier in the season. McEwen Rafferty will make the team out of camp next year. OJ and Lind will get call ups next season and make the team the following season after next. -
Every kid that comes in now has more skill than 70% of the players in the 70s and 80s. But goalies sucked and their equipment actually fit not 5 sizes too big. He's definitely bigger than steamer but just like skill average size is much higher now in NHL Steamer put up 8 - 20+ goal seasons. 3 - 30+ goal seasons. His numbers were very good except last 3 seasons If Podz can match Smyl's offensive output we'll be happy. Except his last 3 seasons. The first 10 years were very good offense for now days. He put up .85 PPG in those 10 yrs. If Pods averages 70 Pts per year plus plays with that intensity and passion and no quit drive... i think that's Steamer in a nutshull.. I think we'll be happy.

Not surprised. I've had this injury. Took me around 5 months to heal. But usually supposed to heal in around 3 months. I thought it would be 5 or 6 weeks more when they said re evaluate in 3 weeks yesterday.

Boeser out for at least 2 months. Ferland done for year Leivo out for regular season. Do the Canucks have enough to make the playoffs Going to be tough. -
Stan Smyl

Very good trade for both teams. It's a win win trade. But if JB can get Toffoli re signed here on a reasonable contract it would be a Canucks win. I think if it takes 5.5 mill to 6 mill per year for 5 year term JB does it. Toffoli is not the fastest guy I wouldn't wanna go to 7 yrs with him. He'll be 34 by the end of that. Pbbly not be very good the last 2 yrs. Edit: typo

Ya I'm sure we'll revisit it many times by end of season. Im sure there will be lots of posts comparing the two. I watch a lot of out of market hockey. You could tell from my posts I'm watching at least a couple of games everyday. I dont know how Toffoli will adjust to the team or how long that adjustment period is. I think Pearsson took about 10 games? I know he fished the season strong. Played about 20 games with us last season. But Toffoli has always been the better out of those two. Just look at their last contracts. Both signed starting 17/18. Both played in LA. Both were same age. , only couple of months apart..Pearson is 1inch taller but Toffoli is 12 lbs heavier.. Toffoli 3yrs @ 4.70 mill per year Pearsson 4yrs @ 3.75 mill per year And Pearson had to give up a UFA year but still got 1 mill per year less. That right there tells you who's better. Particularly because they were same age same team same line.

5th best. Toffoli definitely better than Pearsson. Always has been since they came into the league in LA or played on same line and since Pearsons trade from PIT to us. Toffoli has always been the better player. Has more offense too. Only thing bothering me about this trade is he likely leaves as UFA. Wish he was signed to at least 1 more season. I'm sure JB will try his best to re sign him.

I understand the price was high. But this is the type of moves you cam make when you you draft so well. Last 3 or 4 years Canucks are among the best drafting teams in the NHL if not out right #1 best. They've accumulated enough prospect depth that you can make a move like this when needed. Boeser out at least 1 month Ferland out for season Leivo also likely close to a month and Motte out too. If JB didn't make this trade 100% we fall out of the playoffs race. Prospect depth is not just for players making the team down the road. It's also for making trades and making a playoff push. I think this a a win for both teams. We got their leading scored and we desperately needed a top 6 winger. They got a real good prospect and a 2nd for their rebuild. They are hoping one of those 2 will play 300 plus NHL games down the road for them.

Awesome. Happy we got him. I wanted Toffoli. He was at top of my wishlist. Or Kovy as a cheap rental. Pbbly cost a 3rd. Toffoli is a very solid player. Good size and won a Cup with Pearson as his linemate. They had Carter as their C in LA it'll be Horvat here. I think Madden not putting on weight last 2 or 3 years was a bit concerning. Out of our 2nd tier prospects Madden was the most likely to be traded and that just happened. Prices are high and it's a sellers market so far this year. We're getting a very good player. Wish Toffoli would have at least 1 more yr on his contract. He's a rental but I hope JB can re sign him. It'll be expensive. Hope fully JB can get him at around 5.5 mill 4 years. That'll be worth it. JB paid the price to add the piece this team needed. It's on the players now. Edit: Ferland out for season. That sucks. JB will have to add another player like Simmonds or someone similar.

[Signing] Kovalchuk signs with Montreal
WHL rocks replied to AriGold2.0's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
C'mon JB. Give MTL a 3rd rounder for Kovy. Good veteran player he'll slide right into our top 6. Cheap contract so cap not an issue and he'll be that top 6 forward we need. -

NYR vs CBJ or PIT vs MTL Both good games can't decide which one to watch.
