  1. hmm, I think maybe it works as like a perfect apex graph for me, with Kid A and Amnesiac being the high points, and the albums on either side decreasing equally - HTTT + OK at second, Rainbows+Bends third, etc. I'd really be surprised if they ever got back to that point again, King of Limbs just did nothing for me, on 4 or 5 separate attempts it leaked right through my ears and left no impression. I really like that Tim Burton comparison though, says how I feel about Thom's recent work much better than I ever could have dreamt up. Meanwhile, it might be different, but Jonny is doing some really crazy work with his film scores. I can still remember watching this in the theatre and feeling like someone had finally seen the light about the epicness of 80s slasher horror soundtracks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HjWIr80ln4
  2. yeah I wasn't overly impressed by it, but then it\s been awhile since Radiohead really did it for me - probably since Kid A/Amnesiac, although Hail To The Thief was hit and miss. I don't find their newer stuff to be bad per say, just, yeah, aimlessly repetitive. I guess its becoming clearer and clearer that Greenwood is the one to follow moving forward, not Yorke. Shame though, as they were the first concert I ever went to (14yrs old, Bends tour, 1995) and still one of the best.
  3. Atoms For Peace, the new Thom Yorke/Nigel Godrich/ Flea group, has their album available for streaming: http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2013/02/18/atoms_for_peace_stream_amok_listen_to_the_new_album_from_thom_yorke_s_supergroup.html
  4. Garrison has had exactly one truly bad game this season and it was Friday against Dallas. He looked fine tonight. I said it Friday, and DeNiro just said the same thing, but this guy is still adjusting to a new team. The reason he stank the other night is we switched to full offensive mode and he wasn't ready for it. I'd still rather he play it safe until he's comfortable than make kamikaze pinches. I don't even know why I bother, in a month or so he'll be rolling and y'all will change your tune or disappear. Bunch of hysterical babies after a loss here. Part of competitive sports is accepting a loss. The Blue played their insufferable momentum smothering game tonight and it worked for them, end of story.
  5. I guess technically it's 2012, but I just realized today that I missed the debut solo album from The Gaslamp Killer in the fall. He was the producer behind that Gonjasufi album that made a lot of top-10 lists in 2010. Impossible to describe this guy's style but it's a psychedelic soup of surf rock, reggae, hip hop, middle eastern jazz, and random samples of Hendrix, Pink Floyd, etc. Really really tasty. Check out this little 3 minute profile video and see if you're not curious to hear more of his stuff:
  6. yeah that's def. my favourite one so far Armada.

  8. So uh .... yeah I don't know what this is really, but it's something:
  9. personal favorite: " I think that they should call a cheese grater by its real name...a sponge ruiner"
  10. If anyone is into underground hip-hop, up and coming Brooklyn duo The Underachievers just released a free mixtape. Downloaded it tonight and I'm 3/4 of the way through, really liking it. Nice meshing of old and new school, East/West Coast flavours. http://www.datpiff.c...ape.449545.html
  11. The Internets, they move fast these days! There's already a remix clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3mX6rSJusg
  12. I'm sold on it now after listening twice in a row at full volume today. I see what you're saying coleman but I find the retro, stuck in the 90s vibe to only be present on the first part of the album, almost to act as a transition into the newer sounds (late in the album it almost sounds like some of the late-90s jungle/drum n bass Shields supposedly played with made it into the background). Actually the best review I read of the album said it way better than I could, so I'll just quote it: http://www.grantland...-exploding-step
  13. Only getting my second crack at it now and still through my laptop speakers. Busy weekend. My plan for tomorrow morning is to put it on as loud as possible while making breakfast and cleaning the house. Should have a better read on it then, but I'm liking what I hear. 21 yrs in the making! Holy crap, art of this nature deserves better recognition.
  14. You can listen to the whole new My Bloody Valentine album on their youtube feed: http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOfficialMBV?feature=watch
  15. Clockwork Orange is a 10. Definitely a 10.
  16. I'm with Mountain Man, saw ZD30 last week and would give it a 9. Oddly enough I walked out of the theatre specifically raving about the pacing of it, I felt like Bigelow perfectly drew out the tension in various scenes (the army base bombing is a good example) to just the right degree before releasing. But everything about that movie was excellent - editing, cinematography, acting (Gandolfini's few scenes especially). So far I'd say it's the best movie I've seen from 2012. I liked it more than Lincoln although I feel that'll win BP at the oscars.
  17. edit- we really need to play this on the jumbotron every time the Flames are in town.
  18. Apparently Mars Volta are officially broken up over Omar Rodriguez-Lopez's new project Bosnian Rainbows. http://www.torontosun.com/2013/01/24/the-mars-volta-splitting-up The good news? Bosnian Rainbows just released their first track, and it's .... really good. Kind of like a cross between Rush and The Police, but a bit weirder: http://snd.sc/XzgJG5
  19. Just in case it gets lost in the midst of all the Kassian celebrations, thought I'd bump this and point out that Big B can now add centreman to his resume. Burrows, is there anything he can't do!?
  20. I feel like I enjoyed Looper more than you did but still I get where you're coming from. One thing to note is that it's the first big budget film from directore Ryan Johnson, who's probably only really known previously for directing two episodes of Breaking Bad (although his first indie film, Brick, is excellent). He was interviewed on CBC's Q just a few days before I saw it in theatre and that helped me see what he talked about - that he was overly micro-managed during post production, as though the studio heads didn't have full faith in him. Consequently I think the tone of the movie really wound up messy. In retrospect I wish it was the kind of movie I saw with no expectations, because it would have impressed me much more, and then I would have gone out hunting down everything else he had made.
