  1. Really souring on dhaliwal. I liked him when he was twitter only. Today he's using McCann's 16 goal season and Guddy's +5 in 6 games to show that you should never give up on a first round pick. In that case, let's get Nicklas Jensen, Hunter Shinkaruk, and Jordan Schroeder back and def resign Pouliot too.

Quite frankly, Gudbranson's stats being better in Pittsburgh compared to Vancouver is completely expected. Pittsburgh is a good team who scores a lot. It makes sense that Gudbranson's +/- would be doing better with them than our team. I am glad Benning made the trade though because while Gudbranson may be performing for Pittsburgh, he was not for us and as such, needed to be moved.

McCann is a weird story. I'm not sure why the Canucks gave up on McCann in the first place. Quite frankly, I'm not a big fan of these team's defensive game first mantra. Most of the exciting top teams in the league (Tampa, Washington, Pittsburgh, etc.) all play a fast paced offensive game. They allow their skilled players to make defensive mistakes and they make up for it by scoring more goals. The Canucks appear to be working towards that now, but their history has put a lot of defensive work on skilled offensive forwards which seems to have sucked the life and creativity out of them. I know that defensive play is an integral part of the NHL, but it feels like the Canucks are willing to sacrifice top-six upside in a player so that they can teach them bottom-six defensive play. A current example of this is Goldobin. Goldobin has an incredible amount of creativity in his game and with some confidence can be an exciting top-six player. However, the team has refused to allow him much leash to explore his offensive game because every time he makes a defensive mistake he is scratched. Perhaps the real core issue is that our defensive core is so bad that we need our forwards to play more defense to cover for them, but either way this playstyle doesn't achieve much success.

McCann isn’t just scoring goals by leeching off passes from Crosby either.  One of his two goals last night was short handed. Was used by the Panthers as a checking center when he was with that team.

It s especially irritating that the Pens end up with both players (and both are thriving).

Pearson will be an upgrade on whatever McCann would have done for us, and as others have pointed out Guddy just wasn't a good fit with our d group. It was worth the risk imo, McCann isn't something special to get all up in a knot about.
