    Why does it seem like this team has regressed this year? We have virtually no cap with key players leaving and hard/crippling money spent on the bottom 6.

     

    Will we even make the playoffs this year?

      Wasn't it expected that we couldn't bring back the same team given a flat cap, the key UFA's deserving raises, and the expansion draft necessitating a decision on our goaltenders?

       

      This will probably be a step back year. That's not a surprise. How far a step back will be seen.

      That's what people said about the Beagle, Roussel, and Sutter contracts though. That they were long but they were tradeable once someone else deserved that roster spot. No teams are biting on these types of contracts from us in their final 1 or 2 years.

      Just imagine if all these 'bad' contracts were just one year shorter. We'd be out from Baer, and Sutter already. Roussel, Eriksson, and Beagle would only have one year left and would be over before Petey and Hughes need new contracts. Every one of those contracts is just one year too long from really being no problem at all. 

      I'd rather not sign Toffoli for 4 years and then find out 2 years later that no one will take him from us.

    Can I cash a pay cheque that's become stale dated (older than 6 months)?

    I found one from December while I was cleaning up. Almost 8 months old now.

      @lmm Business is definitely still up and running. I'm still employed by them. The worry is the company's bank not paying out an old check, isn't it? Does using a machine avoid that?

    I feel like Canuck luck dictates one of the two things happening:

     

    We win the Stanley Cup in a "non legit way" (aka this bubble hockey thing) or we win the first overall pick, again, in a very controversial way (second lottery).

     

    Will either these things happen? Probably not but would be funny if either of these outcomes DID happen this year.

    I wanted to ask how did Mike Gillis circumnavigate the cap? What is wrong with back diving contracts?

      It adds 'meaningless' years just to lower the average cap hit. If you really want to sign a guy to a 6 year contract, but sign him to a 12 year contract instead with 6 extra years of 1 million added on to lower the avg cap hit, that's cap circumvention

       

      But, it was cap circumvention that was within the rules. New rules ensure this can't happen anymore. Max contract length of 8 years, max salary variation between the lowest and highest salary years.
