  1. This is exactly what I'm afraid of. The Defence might not be too much worse than this year, but it definitely isn't a significant upgrade. Our core will be the same/improved with experience It's our support players. Leivo, Virtanen, Gaudette all need new contracts too and likely will need raises. Maybe bridge contracts can mitigate this until Baer, Sutter, Ericksson, Roussel are off the books but it'll be tight. Basically, optimistically, we can ice a team of similar overall performance. Maybe a little better. More realistically, we can expect at least a small drop off just because our defence will be at least a little worse, we may not be able to keep young supporting pieces, and Markstrom needs to replicate the best season of his life. And we were a bubble team this season
  2. Ok. So the NHL &^@#ed up in their own report. Why am I not surprised? Could you edit your post from before so people don't get confused?
  3. The common rhetoric is that 24 teams have made the playoffs and based on this tweet, that's not the case.
  4. The play-in round is not considered by the NHL to be actual playoffs. We should keep our 2020 1st rounder if we lose to Minnesota. That would mean our unprotected 2021 first rounder would go to New Jersey no matter what next season, which is frightening when the salary cap for 2020-2021 could be very flat and we have players that need raises. I think its for the best we kick Minnesota's ass with the team we have this year
  5. https://www.sportsnet.ca/650/sportsnets-starting-lineup/may-19-a-heated-debate-with-todd-bertuzzi/ His beef starts around 59:20. He has a problem with not finishing the regular season first.
  6. I've watched this video about 3 times now, and it's still great.
  7. Todd Bertuzzi had a huge issue with it on the SN650 morning show.
  8. back when the league was only 21 teams, 16 teams made the playoffs. 24/31 16/21 Almost identical ratios
  9. What a crappy ref. They're 6 years old, give them a break
  10. I can understand people thinking that this season is likely done already. I can't understand people wanting this season to be officially cancelled EXCEPT for if it's about health concern. Even the logistics of point percentage not being fair, or uneven games, is an issue the AHL deals with every year. Teams actually play different numbers of games in that league and playoffs qualification is done by points percentage every year. It works out. If the NHL has to do it for this year, well Winnipeg and Nashville will have to suck it up. I'm not giving up on the season because their fans will be unhappy.
  11. What makes you think things will be normal in October? There is very likely to be a second wave of covid come flu season. I'd rather find a way to finish the season that has had 68-70 actual games completed than count on next season running as normal when it's just as likely to be impacted as well. Plus, we have Markstrom, Tanev, and Toffoli for the rest of this season, we won't have all of them next season. I want the season completed with them since next year's team is likely worse with a stagnant salary cap What other summer things will be allowed to happen? I doubt beaches are fully opened. The Stanley Cup finals play into June every year anyway. You'd be that much more disinterested if that becomes July/August?
  12. The AHL is even more gate driven than the NHL. Playing without fans wouldn't be worth it. They don't have the sizeable enough TV deals to make that option worth it.
  13. Exactly. I agree. They even say "Lines and pairs are put together because they fit together," but that line doesn't fit at all.
  14. The dumbest rule the TSN has used for these is that one player must be from the 2019/2020 iteration of the team. For us, its not so bad because Edler probably is deserving of it but it's a nonsensical rule
  15. Back in highschool, people would wear sweatpants to school. Tis fine.
  16. Woo seemed to regress last season after his junior team he was drafted from traded him to another junior team for a better chance at a memorial cup. Hopefully, Woo shows good in the AHL. If he makes the Canucks someday, I want Woo to be my first jersey with a name on it
  17. I'm not saying Wellwood's jersey should be retired but it hurtme to see one of the Sweatt brothers wear number 42. /s
  18. The tweet is from 4 years ago, but the email in the tweet is from 2011. He's had the email for at least 9 years and two leaks of what it is. His spam folder is probably HUGE
  19. Zack's father passed away today. He had a stroke yesterday. RIP.
