True but system for sure helps simplifying the reads to get the ball out quicker for most qbs. Probably legit 5 qbs in the league who make players around them better. Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Rivers, Roethlisberger true franchise guys.
The rest run hot and cold and are not capable of reading defenses at an elite level to be able to audible and control the line of scrimmage and make sure the players are in spots to succeed on each play and are not known as great field generals who battle and play with a fire and intensity.
Those 5 guys are all proven Super Bowl winners with the exception of Rivers and are still playing at a high level right now.
My list for qbs would be those 5 since Peyton Manning always chokes in big playoff games he belongs in the mediocre category if ranking for right now.
The step below those guys are Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, Tony Romo, Eli Manning, Carson Palmer, Russel Wilson the good but not as consistent as those truly elite guys still clear franchise qbs but they run hot and cold still.
Then you have the mediocre borderline franchise qb's may put up good numbers but don't really win in big games despite the talent around them they can be frustrating to watch because they are very talented or have good talent around them or both but don't win and play as good as people expect.
You can't get rid of these guys because they still play good enough not to be replaced and have pedigree as high picks and because the draft is a crapshoot and the other options are trash.
Guys like Dalton, Luck, Stafford, Cutler,Newton, Peyton Manning in his declining stage is in this category now.
Then you have up and comers guys like Carr, Mariota, Bridgewater,Bortles, Winston, Manziel and the rest of unproven guys still trying to establish themselves or average veterans like Alex Smith,Ryan Tannehill Josh McCown, Tyrod Taylor, Colin Kaeperknick, Sam Bradford, Kirk Cousins, Nick Foles, Bryan Hoyer/Ryan Mallett, Ryan Fitzpatrick/Geno Smith, RGIII guys who can play good one week and look trash the next. Matt Cassel, EJ Manuel, Blaine Gabbert ...
Way too inconsistent to trust as franchise qbs either because they can't stay healthy or simply don't play good. They can start but better have a good backup behind them and another qb for when they get hurt or stink it up week to week.
How do you rank the elite qb's the step below and the rest?
