  1. I love when my car insurance jumps arbitrarily up by 20 dollars and nobody at the insurance center can explain why it went up so much.

While that sounds good and all, do cheap insurers actually help you out when something happens?  When I had a private insurer in Alberta and my wife was in an accident (100% the other guy's fault and he admitted it) it was a royal pain to get his insurer to talk to my insurer and arrange to pay for repairs.  If I wasn't on top of them, I might still be waiting.

In another scenario, I had a buddy in Alberta, his dad's private insurance rate jumped up because his insurer said he was 'statistically due' for an accident.

People in BC sometimes think that private insurance is some sort of miracle saviour, but in my experiences they weren't any better than ICBC.

      All insurance is a racket.

We keep a van here, which for pleasure use costs (with full deductions) almost 2,000 dollars a year to insure.  We have family in NS, who have the identical van, and with similar coverage.  It costs them less than 800 dollars per year.  Our van is modified with a lift, so that might mean a few extra dollars, but I really think we are getting ripped off by a lot.
