Geez did you even watch last year? We got injured AGAIN but with JB's moves plus Miller and he seems to be under rated until you have a look at him and then it becomes obvious how good he really is... and how much we need him to step up his game if Brock Alien or Bo get injured and we win enough of all the 1 goal losses and he's capable of helping with that, Rafferty is better than Hutton and Hughes is a mile better than pouliot and that alone should get us in without any trades as it is right now so us making it in puts in the post season but maybe not far but if we do and drop out first round that will almost be almost for sure mid round or worse and that's not taking into account our draft luck which will probably have us pick 2O's... 15th probably would be best case scenario!
-
Miller and Gagne shouldn't be in the same sentence... Miller over him anyway day of the week. Miller is simply too skilled and his snipes are peteyness... look at his goals just from the last two seasons, and skilled enough to be wanted by a top contending team in the best league in the world yet the cdc wants to play it up as a bad move by trading 2 picks, and one of them 3rd round, 1st rounder, probably 15th pick(ish) overall which usually means (leftovers) with a clause that says if we miss the playoffs we don't lose it because it "potentially" maybe be something but not with our luck. Plus depth goalie? And we somehow lost the deal?
-
Hutton back? No thanks, Rafferty is better...
-
And trading can be a crap shoot too... tons of other players around the league failed to live up to $$$ and expectations and we're no different and you nailed it when you mentioned LE who should have been a shoe in as the sedins make anyone look good but went into lazy mode for whatever reason and seemed disinterested and still is by the looks of it... Anyways, put it all together and it makes it all a crap shoot... you just do what you can and hope it goes as planned but you know how that goes right?
-
Why would a top tier center who scores a lot of goals run around and try and hit hard and we don't want a Boeser scenario all over again and that easily have been much worse, i, for one am glad he doesn't hit more and stand higher risk of injury. I'm happy enough with his production and defensive side as it is...
-
That's a pretty fair assessment, if we win a stanley cup and it's not immediately followed by 5 in a row then fire everyone and trade everyone because we'd suck if it was less than that!
-
At best a 1st which we usually get that unless there's a crazy talented year will get you "usually" a better than average guy IF he works out at all and we never get even top 3 so that point doesn't gaurantee holding water anyway, so if you risk a 1st you might lose nothing at all, even first overall have failed before... let alone a 3rd round plus a depth goalie is nothing compared to a guy of JT Millers calibre which we need on top 6... so if i was benning i'd do that deal all day!
-
Yeah but he didn't do it fast enough with the players each individual cdc'r wanted so their mad, and heck cap space, schmap space who cares right? And player clauses have to be cancelled on a whim and don't have any legal rules, and of course all usa players are just hurrying to canada because they don't want to be close to family, que guys like Roenick who would have been amazing here but refused to here and others then having to deal with fans we have here that think media knows everything even though most of them never even played hockey... let alone not knowing circumstances behind scenes but say things are true that are maybe's and what if's scenarios... Hmmmm did i miss anything? Oh wait... every GM has a crystal ball that they can see exactly what each player will turn out and which will, how much the cap will be in future years.. who will be injured and for how long etc etc... man being a GM must be super easy hey Alf?
-
Dude it started on you commenting how benning has been doing over his tenure and saying he should have found a way to get around ntc nmc's and traded them but thats impossible but as for the picks he traded off were only 2nd round anyway and hardly any risk trying out a new guy or 2 as it comes up to address roster needs, so some didn't work out but JB was just trying to hold the ship afloat while he first tweaked it and then as clauses came off he kicked building into another gear and he's not finished but yeah there has been glitches but it hasn't stopped us going forward so relax...
-
What more creative ways were there, plus giving up 2nd rounder who only stand a 50/50 chance they ever make it to the nhl at all, let alone be more than a plug so having a shot at upgrading your roster is worth a shot, even some first rounders don't make it. Drafting is a crap shoot. Every trade is a gamble and you win some lose some no matter who you are and a lot of cdcr's can't handle that... so he didn't come with exp but was a assistant to someone who built a team strong and deep enough to beat us and got a turn at running the show and has done ok, bad and good as anyone but he's also learned a lot and finally it's beginning to show.. Patience grasshoppers...
-
Rafferty>Hutton, Raff is clearly a better D and has some physical bite and we need that
-
Actually i'm in the 50/50 camp for now, the old guard are now and if he can't take us forward then turf him but as long as we get a post season and get deeper into it every year and into a solid cup contending team then obviously yes he stays. I'd rather hedge on the side of JB learning the craft the hard way so he's more aware of how things can go sideways at the best of times for any team...
-
Earth to tomatoes... you can't trade long term ntc's and nmc's unless they agree but some didn't and held out and same with others that held out longer and finally agreed, and some not at all. All you can do is plug whatever spots you can until it's back to square one which was last year in case you didn't notice... Now it's all in his shoulders, no excuses and if he fails to make the team into a true cup contender within the next year or 2 then yeah he can go but he made a core of Alien Bo and Brock and is trying to upgrade and just has with JT and anything new he pulls off and now we have Pods waiting in the wings that won't be lost to the ED... which was smart as he can fill any forward spot in the top six if one gets lost to seattle.. And JB's on the right track even with a loss of 3 million luongo's contract handicap to boot which was MG's move, not his... wish you'd put some more thought into your b.s. and then go and ask any GM in the league how easy it would have been to be a GM have to work out all that out... any one of them would laugh in your face and walk away not bothering to answer as you wouldn't understand and asking that question showed it... it's not rocket science to know it would be next to impossible until the circumstances changed so, sorry one can't build a contender if you have guy's you want upgraded have clauses plus a thing called a salary cap. Still can't get your head around the details of a GM can you? .
-
Where do these thoughts in your head come from? Want me to pick apart most of what you said and ask you what you'd have done assuming you put yourself properly in the place of JB and in his head as he took over a aging seasonal team rivaling other clubs with ntc's and nmc's and not much in the farm and doing your best to try and make it all work until their all gone and some deals he made, made sense at the time. Like Vey, who was lighting it up one down and may end up helping if he could make the transition but i would have given him a chance too. Guddy the same as in physical play and failed to at least be effective, LE looked like a shoe in line mate for the twins, baer has had plain bad luck, dorsett turned it up a notch then injured too. Last is Pearson and he's turned out well with Bo so far... plus Tanev and Edler going down a lot, you don't ask much do you?
-
Honestly that's not bad considering this has been his first gig as a GM and handed a aging handicap off the get go so he's learning which people aren't prepared to want to believe it but after LE is gone that's the last bad contract so see how it goes, but he's done ok.

Ummmm who is willing to trade a top 4 D for a draft pick? think about it, getting in the playoffs means having 2 top pairings who can consistently shut down potent offenses or slow them down for your snipers to win it... how easy do you think you'd let go of one? unless the circumstances were perfectly right, not very I imagine... and even worse, there's no guarantee in drafts, from 3rd overall on down is a crap shoot usually... and since when would JB turn down a trade to get a top 4 D if one was available for the right price?
-
Yeah he'd charter small planes instead or buy his own..
-
No unless he's pretending on twitter, To "so and so" welcome to the team etc etc... kind of thing a unofficial captain does and he knows help is on the way, he is watching it all and you can't tell me that he hasn't talked to JB and JB pointing out what the plan is and how it will pan out if things go relative and making his money isn't exactly chump change either! Just sayin! Seems to me he knows what's going on and is ok with it.
-
He is but unless we have more depth at D to cover his injury time and we don't collapse if and when we get injuries up the yang as usual so we don't drop out of a playoff race as usual... if it always has to boil down to that i'd say trade him to a contender if they want him, so at least he has a chance at a cup ring but like edler i doubt he'd get more than a 2 yr extension if he were to stay but somehow i hope JB can sign someone who can play up and down the D pairings as needed so we can actually get somewhere instead of out of post season run...
-
Why does it seem strange? Since when do we ever get in the top 3 in the draft? Btw, that first round pick will be a late first round or mid at best which means most of the meat is off the bone first and then you settle for left over.. once in awhile it might go well but not worth the risk when you have a chance to upgrade your top 6 which we have. Picture JB working the phone to trade the extra forwards for D... How do you figure strange exactly? Oh and Maz was deemed expendable in lieu of Jake Kielly being signed and a 3rd round pick hardly ever makes it..
-
This is news to you??? petey brock bo (pearson/miller) --- toss up
-
Are you for real? Exactly how many 3rd rounders make the nhl, news flash sir, 2nd rounds are a "maybe", late first rounds are strong "maybe", mid first are "probably" and top 5 are usually a gimme but since when do you think losing a 3rd round pick is that important when you get a upgrade on your top 6 to compliment the STYLE of the players you have already?
