Still waiting for you to quote anyone that actually said those players suck.

How many said Petey sucked at the beginning of his contract when he wasn't producing.

How many said Bubble Demko was dead when he wasn't playing well this season?

How many roasted JTM for slowly getting off the ice in a game and CDC went off the rails?

How many said Hughes was too small when he got here and wouldn't make it?

I'm not going to sit here any longer explaining the past few years to you if you haven't been paying attention, go back and read Canucks forums for the last 5 years ffs! It's been constant! Are you for real?

You have never heard we suck tear it down before? 1000's of times in the last 5 years? Really? Now that's funny.. we're done here lol

  2. Well over at the world's, Garland seems to be continuing where he left off at the end of the last season. CG is doing really well over there and getting noticed, however are the right people watching? As in added interest from other teams in acquiring him?

Hard to say but it's certainly can't be hurting his stock, question is what can we get for him and maybe that will help the issue, too bad he wasn't 6'2 and 210+, we all like his feisty play but not consistent enough but still a good player when he turns it on.

Is that enough for a team to give us either a high pick or prospect?

What do you think? Kind of hard to say BUT all we can hope for is that it balances out the others teams bargaining chip of knowing we need cap and same with Boeser I imagine.

But back to Garland, he needs to be replaced by Hogs or Podz and we need depth!

Can JR pull one out of his hat and score a home run and get this team finished off and have enough depth for the playoffs for once?

Idk but at least Garland is trending up and maybe that will help us but no guarantees right?

Thoughts? Late/Mid 1st pick for him or early 2nd? Hmmm...

But do go on building strawmen, that you can then get mad at.

Omg your funny, your on here enough, and signing the players I mentioned were great pick ups mixed with some bad but that's normally every GM, yet lots of people hang him out to dry like he did nothing and I clearly argue that's not true and I always have, and actually it's lame bringing it up over and f'n over because it is f'n over!

But nooooo we had such a bad team because of Benning yet said roster went on winning streaks so how the F is it ALL his fault, because honestly, if we ended up with the same roster if JB started the job with just "some" locked in players instead of what Gillis locked in and able to trade right away, and picks and a farm with depth..

There was none of that, locked in term contracts, next to zero picks because we traded them away for the roster and no one in the pipeline!

What a shi t show this team was at the time, and it stayed with the broken identity for years until the whole team was finally gone and that just happened 2 years ago from 2012

Yet people said we have nothing but a crappy team like our core is garbage and tear it down.. how the F have you missed any of this??  :P and you ask for proof? Quotes?

Exhibit A..  this thread.. and how many like it have been posted? Omfg! Seriously? Lmao.. c'mo...

could you please show me where anyone said what you are alleging?

I'd love to see the quotes.

Alleging? Ummm the thread might have something to do with it, this has been going on for 2 years now, this isn't new! Where you been?

Ok you want proof to start off with? JT Miller, the moron media said we got stiffed on it yet he comes in and pulls a 100 point season and first line on most teams but everyone (except for some of us) jumped on the wagon, came on the CDC and parroted everything they said as if it had a oz of f'n truth to it.. good grief! Lmao!

Yah Benning is the worst GM ever. Stupid moves any 5th grader could have done better.

Yeah Demko Petey Quinn JTM etc.. All useless! POS Bums! Get rid of them!! NOW!

My God how people can be just THAT stupid?

No wonder people think  most Canucks fans are really just idiots, and to be fair, most are.

Prove it? Well how many here believe the bush league media here? LOTS!

I am not optimistic if Petey and Hughes can surivive from the hits and harrass....

Top reason why we need more toughness, right now, we're pussies, not tigers.. this roster would get eaten alive in a long playoff run and not really any depth. Not like this isn't a new thing for us but we certainly to need work on it.

After an initial bevy of free agent signings, activity seems to have dropped off to a trickle.  I remember reading that the Canucks were interested in three RHD Filip Burglund, Jacob Bengtsson and Samuel johannesson.  Is there any recent news about any of them?  Would the lack of activity be the result of cap concerns or using up their allotted number of roster spots?  Any insights or info would be appreciated.

Awhile back when questioned, PA didn't seem sure if he was going to sign D men or fill from within. So that's a bit vague.

However expect us to cap dump for picks/prospects and after that's done we might see more activity.

We usually have snow here from November to April so I would choose the tundra.

A snowmobile is more fun than sunbathing.

Yeah but you can only do so many winter things before they get old.. trust me after 20 years in the north,  hockey, curling, skiing, snowmobiling (elan 250 deluxe "dinosaur" before we finally got a 440) ice fishing..

It was super fun for awhile, don't get me wrong but over and over and over...

Then 30 plus years in Vancouver, just rain, omfg I was in heaven!  Just heaven got over crowded and expensive so up north in the snow again.. same old 2-3 ft of snow and hit the -30's a number of times.

     Next destination, Hope b.c.!

Yeah it's small but it rains and 10 km up the Coq then snow if I want it but if it was up to me, I'd be in Florida!

Anyway back to point, plus there's a clause written up in contracts and for how long it's been in existence I could tell you but a no trades to Canada is written in for some players contracts.

So people thinking any player would be happy to play in Canada is mistaken and most want to play for Pitts, NY, LA etc so it just compounds a problem of getting players signed here and in fact, if you go back for the last 20 years and see how many Canadians were captains of USA teams you'd be surprised as I was so even Canadians would rather play in the big US market.. Gretzky, Lemeiux, Yzerman, Sakic, +++++

So unless they get big $ long terms here in Canada, most won't come unless they have no choice.

So if it was only as easy as some think

Good clubs have good players. Adding Hronek gives us another good player. And he’s 25. So he’s entering his prime years. Miller is 30. He’s still a very good player. All top teams have several players in their 30’s playing important minutes. We have an elite goalie, an elite centre, and a franchise level D. New management is building out the supporting cast around a very good core group. Hronek is a hugely important add. A couple more key additions (right shot, checking 3C; stay at home defensive D) and we are a very good team.
We have excellent coaching now too. Systems play, and insisting all players play the right way with those systems, makes us even better.
    105 points next season.

And work on developing depth like a mofo, and pick and pick and pick.. until we have enough for once, and we're not far off, we just need a set roster, not a neverending turnstile! And I know YOU know tha.

Granted we have horrible injury and draft luck but at least we're almost set now, the next 2 years will probably make us or break us...

PA's comment on picking BPA makes me nervous, unless it's modified by getting the BPA in position because after the top 3 in the draft it's honestly opinion and getting the proper 1st round positioning can be as who you ask but in my opinion right now, we go after any D whose in the top 11 who has size skill and speed with an "attitude" you know what mean.

Even if we have to trade to get it, we need to load up and keep it up because if we have more than we need we can always trade it.

Do I trust management to get that done?! Not really but all I can do is HOPE they follow through on the promise of bigger and faster who would make a guy like Tocchet happy.

Maybe it'll happen, maybe it won't..

Most things are possible (with the exception of an OEL trade ) - it's a matter of whether or not it makes sense for us to do it. In the case of Boeser - if it involved something the Canucks were willing to do, it seems they would have already done it. If we pay and retain to move off Garland, that would be in addition to paying a 9th overall just to acquire him. Again, not sure if Canucks are willing to do that. We'll see. I hope they figure something out.

Well remember back to when that was, he wasn't doing that well but at the end of the season he was back to his old self but his old self sucks defensively but there are teams out there looking for primarily scoring players like Boes.

And for OEL, he played ok for awhile but as soon as we went back to what he was used to before here, a team sucking and went down with the ship so to speak but he still has top line talent, it's just a matter of proper motivation to get him going again.

That would have been horrible playing for Arizona and yes it would grate on you and your love for the game but it's not like it can't be re-visited if we continue trending upward like at the end of the season. A re-set in other words, he has all the tools and then some..

Anyway Yeah it's all in management's hands now, all we can do is sit back and keep googling "Canucks news" until training camp..

It's going to be a long summer

I think this is much easier typed than done. Many people just type this and get millions of our books. We gave Boeser's agent permission to seek a trade, and yet he's still here - that doesn't give me much confidence that we can recover assets for him. We'll see about Garland - but he's got 4.95m for 3 years left. That's money and term for a guy that doesn't play a premium position, doesn't kill penalties, and doesn't add size/speed to a team. I'm not saying he's a bad player, or that he's an anchor contract. I'm saying it will be difficult to get teams to pay us for him, ESPECIALLY given how badly we need to free up cap space.

Well there's always throwing in a pick that isn't first round and retaining salary if need be but you can't tell me moving Boes and Garland is impossible because it's not...

Someone said Florida only has 4 drafted players. How does that fit your narrative? They aren’t the only team that are successfull and trade for players instead of using draft as the main source.

The draft for success seems to be a romantic view of how it really works.

Well Tim, it's FLA, if it's you, would you rather play in Florida or say the frozen tundra aka Winterpeg? Easy answer no?

It's NOT all UFA's and it's not all draft either, it's simply a mixture of both, vets and newbies and in between... The best mix wins.. or as close as you can get but without depth that all means nothing, a long season and a battle ground in the playoffs are sure to produce injuries. WE have not learned this.. it's always fans screaming for selling the farm for a one and done and did that ever work?

And with what cap space will we be signing a penalty killing 3C and a big shutdown dman?  :lol::lol:

You seriously need to start learning numbers bud.

Math is actually simple, I think anyone who knows the option of Boes and Garland for prospects/picks. If it's prospects they won't get paid a ton and the a bridge can be done if necessary so it won't take away much from the 11mil cap combined for both of them.

And if Bettman pulls mr PR man, there will be another 3 mil a team.

We need to sign Petey so that's covered and not a bite into the cap would help.

However the cap is there for that then anyway but left over will be enough for raises and upgrades and Giraffe off the books next season to help with raises.

     It's not that bad, really...

I’m a little bit curious if the SHL prospects needs more than a year in SHL before NHL.

It’s not like the childrens leagues in WHL and so on.

It’s the third league in the world with men against men.

Leo Carlsson plays for Sweden already in WC par example.

ASP after a year in SHL after the draft is probably a 5/6 D already with a lot of development.

Your comment about SHL another year, I strongly disagree to it, why? Because the biggest difference is how much faster the NHL is due to lack of time and space on a smaller rink, I'd rather have them on a smaller rink asap.

It's long talked about that it's the biggest adjustment because the room to skate around and do whatever you want is gone.

I'm not saying there's not elite prospects who can make the adjustment a lot easier but that not the norm so...

     Anyway just an opinion

  16. 14 hours ago, JamesB said:

I have the same view. Many people around the league will be happy about extra cap room. And it is certainly good for players who, collectively, will gain about $100 million due to the cap increase. But not every team can benefit. In fact, regardless of amount of the increase exactly 16 teams make the playoffs and exactly one wins the cup. On average there is zero net benefit. If some teams gain, then others must lose.

But the Canucks stand to be gainers. The teams that will lose are teams that need to sign UFAs or high-end RFAs this summer and teams that already have significant cap space won't gain much from the extra space.

The Canucks already have almost the entire line-up signed for next season and have less cap space than any other team. And they have an unbalanced roster (too many wingers, not strong enough in the bottom 6 center area), So with more flexibility around the league to make moves, that also helps the Canucks more than it helps most teams.

Also, if the cap goes up, the floor also goes up and increases the number of teams who will looking to add cap hit to get to the floor. (Maybe 3 teams instead of 1). That greatly increases the chances of trading Myers after paying his bonus as the acquiring team will get a 6 million cap hit while only paying 1 million in actual cash flow. So Myers will be much easier to move.

Bottom line: we should be cheering for a large cap increment.

I admit to some of the same concern as @Warhippy. I hope JR and Allvin don't just turn around and blow the extra space on yet another overpaid UFA.

Actually if and I certainly hope so, trade Boeser and Garland only because both aren't that good defensively and we can't afford that anymore. Combined cap is 11 mil in exchange for picks or prospects is our best route, especially since Podz isn't going to get a huge raise, some $ yes but not huge, we'd spend some of that on Petey, and still have room left over for a good Dman and if the cap raises as Bettman alluded to then we could probably pull off a 3rd line center on a 2 year deal until replaced by a prospect to take over

How much have you seen Hrorak play?

Honest question as a lot of folks seems to write him of as a dogs breakfast without having seen him play.
if PA says they've been scouting him since last year, I would kind of think, hey have a good read on him by now ...

Sounds like the JT Miller trade no? Forgetting he was playing on one of the deepest teams in the league at the time..  and also forgetting to see how well he did with Stammer, and he did play on his line more than once and rocked it and you think if people bothered to check, more people would have known that but nooooo.. dog's breakfast indeed!!!

What a fan base... This is typical... Omfg! Lol! Smh! <------ !

You know this starts in the media right? 9 times out of 10... And we have bush league media so I guess it makes sense, the only thing their REALLY good at is sugar coating bull$hit so well people actually believe it!

I don't see it as easy as that hammer.
i'd hate to have people on the team that didn't want to win every game they played in.
And also, if they'd want to leave in order to win, in case we didn't give them the opportunities to do so, I wouldn't blame them.
As I've said lots of time, either start a total rebuild ( think they ought to wait a few years) or run with the horse we have.
There is no in between... just a total waste.
Petey and QH are a few years too old to still continue the rebuild.
    Just my 5c

I'm not convinced tearing it down is a step forward

And yes, I am very happy with the trade as Hronek is a legit top 4 Dman who can play in all situations.  The 18th overall pick won't even be in the lineup for 4 years...

EP stop that! Forward critical thinking for yourself?  it will not be tolerated on the CDC! Your now demoted to the minority side!

Welcome over! Beers in the fridge...  Mocking and laughing at those who refuse to think critically for themselves and blindly follow media etc, is strongly encouraged! Just a hypothetical discussion!  Let’s say that Bure is in the same (or as close as possible) position today, that he was in when he left the team back in 99.  What kind of return would he get via trade?  And also what kind of contract would he be offered?

Note:  I am NOT asking what the modern equivalent of his return is.  I am asking what he would command if he existed right now.  (Also assume that his age and production history remain the same)

    Same as McDavid I imagine...

Just as the title says. Would Arizona consider a 1 for 1 swap. Crouse brings something the Canucks sorely need in middle six physicality. Boeser outscores Crouse and has a higher ceiling. They are only 4 months apart in age.

Boeser reunited with Schmaltz would be a great opportunity for him to regain his confidence.

Seeing these playoffs really is a reminder that the Canucks need some more size.

'is a reminder that the Canucks need some more size"

Yes and it happens pretty much every year but is quickly forgotten.

IF we would do trade someone else has to go and there's no one else in the line-up that creates that much cap relief as Flow to put with Garland's cap so we have 11 mil if Boes is traded for a pick/prospect as well as Garland and use the picks/prospects at D where we need to grow it and look for bigger guys so we have more of that grit and size we need mixed in, rather have that on 3-4 pairings and roll four lines and have the toughness factor.

Just like the Sedins, our Petey, Kuz, Huggy, will all be wearing targets on their backs.

However having a Tryamkin or similar x 2 and 2 more depth guys trying to take their spots competition and for injury call ups.

I'd rather have 3 of bigger tougher guys on D, 2 on 4th pairing and 1 on 3rd pairing and then a cpl of the same on 4th line but skilled bigger tougher guys, have to be developed though for the most part because of a price tag of a RFA Dman.

Tougher is good but it has to be balanced and the best balanced team (with depth) like that, takes home the cup, the rest?  "WE" know how that goes.. ALL TOO WELL!

And that's not going to change anytime soon..
