Without some solid D depth going anywhere near the playoffs would just leave a lot of let down fans as usual, nothing new... if by some miracle we'd probably get bounced first round unless we play lights out and don't get injured we might make 2nd round and that would be another bubble miracle. Getting tired of watching this, until we get D depth it looks bleak.. oh and toughen up too but that doesn't happen much either... However we've never had a JR at the helm and BB as coach either. At best we're 2 seasons away to get the D depth solved so realistically not much has changed in who knows how long..

Do We Lack Toughness? Who would you give up for?
iceman64 replied to RolexSub's topic in Canucks Talk
You might ask another question, when was the last time this team was tough enough to take on and beat the elite bigger but well balanced teams in the NHL for the answer to that question you asked.. -
no for the rest of the team getting used to proper lines without those 2.. in a perfect world of Petey and Hughes signed and in the mix and Hamonic as well. and after I've had a word with TG to NOT try to play anything but simple fast hockey, hey it's in my perfect world right so I get to do such things! Actually that's my biggest thing against him..

I'd be down for that! anyway Canucks 9-0 over FLA, hit em like a hurricane and remind them of home. (I still don't know why people live there if boarding up your house becomes like seasons that you KNOW are coming "for sure") Let em have it boys!!! p.s. c'mon Podz! now is the time to really show your slick mitts! Ok, realistically, I'm hoping 3-1 Canucks. Demko does his thing! GCG!

Who will be the first player to be traded under the new management?
iceman64 replied to Rabbit's topic in Canucks Talk
Well riding Demko is fine in theory but what if he misses games to injury, sickness whatever, then what? Personally I don't think MD is ready for the NHL yet and as good as Silovs showed, I'm not sure how well he'd do either. Martin has been playing well and got a shot out recently and I admit I don't know much about him but these 3 guys need more experience and putting them in the firing line of the NHL in their development curve is a wise thing to do... Idk what to say but even with bonus's to be paid out I think holding onto Halak wouldn't be a bad idea in case of injury or otherwise. -

Core players are not going to be traded, the supporting cast however is a different story and if we have a few smaller players on the team we have no choice to look for bigger skilled players to compensate and if that doesn't occur, we all know, all too well, what happens come playoff time. Early exit.. nothing new... -
well everyone wants a scape goat, however doing that to Podz certainly would make whoever said it, look like a complete idiot...

You mean "death stare" no?

I think it was a matter of JB knowing he had a good team and not far off target but with the ____ that went on with the way this year started but once getting all the players on the same page eventually just didn't happen fast enough but TG didn't have to complicate things and just kept it simple as BB has.. I suppose we'll never know if JB had toyed with the thought of cleaning house if things didn't turn around because we have a lot of talent on this team and imo this is as close at we've ever been but we still have to toughen up the line-up without sacrificing skill but that doesn't exactly grow on trees especially when the elite teams get the best of the crop and we usually have to settle for whatever is left over. Not exactly what Canadians want to hear but it's true. However there's been a few David's around among the Goliaths, so one never knows but JR has his work cut out for him.

Predict The Score Contest: OTT @ VAN Jan 8 2022

see YOU jinxed it!! It's all your fault! -
Would it mean that Benning really put a decent team on the ice with only a few holes to plug? to become elite? just maybe?

IF we get to play more games in January.. not looking promising

This just in, surprising in one way, not surprising in another! After a steady progression upward, along with his confidence to stare down that rob some if the best snipers in the NHL in regulation time, overtime, and shoot out. Demko is ranked in the top 10 goalies in the NHL by the sportingnews.com coming in at 9th and you just know he may or may not be at his ceiling but his calmness and focus is surely at the elite level and it's showing what a great investment he is, not to mention his humility and heart that's so much fun to watch! Congrats Demmer! Glad your with us! edit: yes might vary depending on who you talk to but I'd agree with him on the top 10 list especially consistently playing so well in the last 10 games and the most steady player on the team, almost matched closely maybe by Garland before BB showed up.

Why Does The Media And Many Fans Still Consider Our Defense Suspect?
iceman64 replied to Rindiculous's topic in Canucks Talk
Honestly imo, it's lack of depth that makes me nervous more than anything and we're only another 3rd pairing Dman and a couple on depth and then I'd feel a lot better about it. I still wonder if Woo will ever get a shot, plus you have to love his name which would be as welcomed as Louuuuuu! but I'm not sure if he still likes to throw his weight around on hits but we sure could use that.
