  1. yeah I know right, someone actually thinking for themselves and not depending on the idiot media to do it for them here, wow impressive, wish more people would..
  2. No you actually didn't... 1st, Stech was/is a middling 3rd pairing Dman at best. 2nd.. do you remember how many times Tanev has been out injured in the last 5 years and couldn't be depended on? And would you give an aging Markstrom a long term contract? really? Who told you Green is playing a grinding style of play? or are you thinking that on your own? it's called hard forechecking and I've never once heard TG say "grinding" style of play unless he meant grind down with a fast forecheck. which has been mentioned by him more often than not.. And of course our D needs work, and it will come soon enough but if you think the build is over and we're trying out the final product, you might want to rethink that...
  3. me too.. I think he's smarter than that but he might need a change of scenery..
  4. yeah your missing his size on what's traditionally been a butter soft team that gets beat on with only a cpl of exceptions, in 40 years, look we can't get tough enough, you put train in there but what of he gets injured and we run up against a real team, then back to (oh well maybe next yr) sounds so much fun like it's been for the last 40 years, why break it up now right?! who wants a cup anyway?
  5. why? they didn't come in or function at all with any style, bell is a rip off company and my ex and her son both worked for them and hated it.. plus their rates are the worst in the industry so knowing their taking a hit is nothing but karma... sad people lost their jobs but other than that I hope they go out of business completely. Is Rogers worse? Maybe.. maybe not...both suck large though.. and don't even get me started on Telus!
  6. Are you for real? Tanev has long long longgggg list of injuries and age is going to start playing a factor so for anyone who would be willing to depend on that for the next four year needs their head examined, a 2 year term tops like Edler got would have been fine but 4? no way! that's hilarious, glad JB didn't pull off that bit of stupidity.. Tanev was a good mentor for Hughes while it lasted BUT Hughes will be fine with or without him and my first game on the radio as a kid was in 74 and believe me, I'm f'n tired of the same ole b.s. year after year until someone finally had the balls not to bow to public "win it all now and sell the farm" bull$&!# got us exactly where? how many cups have we won exactly? geeez that's worked out well hasn't it?
  7. yeah why have a farm at all? I mean we just got it recently, might as well sell it as usual and have no depth but a "good" team, does that remind you of the last 40 years at all? it should! lmao... omg I'm glad that's over but Markstrom is getting older and Tanev as well but I'm ok with a younger and less injury prone Smitty any day of the week and I trust in our goalie coach to bring Demko along to be a formidable wall as he usually does so it was a mute point anyway and Stech was simply a 3rd pairing dman so not that hard to replace BUT you know how the media you speak of usually reacts, you know, the same ones who questioned if Petey was too "slight" and we got robbed silly with JT Miller... Man who hires these people??
  8. well playing as many games as we have since the start of the season, zero pre-season, no JT Miller, and new guys with no systems experience quickly added up to start to where we are now was NOT optimal stance out of the gate, normally we have a hot start then injuries with not much depth pushed us out of anything but downhill andddddd repeat, BUT like some of us know things are getting better and growing closer together because of it all and that's not going to show until a cpl of more years have passed which a bummer reality but it's not like all the long term contracts that didn't work out could magically on a wish so it would take time and it has and will be but it's almost done, and for once in 40 years it's not come at the expense of the farm that robbed us of depth when we needed it the most.. Anyway I'm glad those depressing days are over and we have a new core and a new hope and we surround them with a good support and take a run for a change, where in the middle of it, someone or more get injured in the gruelling physical battel to the cup and finally we have depth to come in and we don't lose a step and end up on the losing side AGAIN! Meh media and whatever fans who follow them and can't appreciate the difference of then and now and get all panicky.. well, too bad, so sad.. keep crying, keep whining... (drama queens) sheeesh.. if it wasn't so annoying it'd be more funnier than it is already. Sadly it's getting (broken record) old which is the annoying part but as some posters have mentioned the 2 bad contracts and the mentorship contracts are pretty much ready to be over then by the time the cap is back to par again with cap to fill the roster spots needed, this team will be so much fun to watch again as an elite team WITH depth.. will be weird to get used to the depth we've never had before EVER! GCG!!
  9. except for Toffoli, I would have done the same thing, Tanev is a great Dman until he gets injured when relied on too heavy, and Markstrom was a pipe dream, we did the goalie dance with Luo and schnieds, it would be ok if we had traded away Demko but he will be looking for a big raise soon and a starters spot and we can not afford to have 2 starting goalies with big $ contracts over any longish term.. and that's what Markstrom wanted and who could blame him but letting him go was the right move, if he had been ok with looking for a short stint here for 2 season's while Demko gets his baptism of fire to see if he could handle it but Markstroms age was/is a factor too...
  10. on a short leash? according to who? source ? Last I saw we're spending right up to the cap and have been for awhile
  11. yeah that was a big part of it too but that was known by everybody as it's for all Canadian teams but all those strikes against us but we're pulling out of the b.s. era of soft great seasonal teams that don't get far in the post season, usually from lack of depth too after selling out the farm literally. And then the salary cap, then covid right at the tail end of our build.. grrrrr love or hate JB but someone finally had to grow some more balls to rip it down instead of the painful 'same ole" besides MG.. All in all, this team was a pretender for the last 10 years, at least that part is over.
  12. Well they don't come cheap and OJ was supposed to be that but injuries got in the way, but your right and JB will get one for for us for sure, it's not like he doesn't already know that or he wouldn't have re-signed one of the closest things in Edler for an extension, plus Tan was often injured and couldn't/can't be counted on if leaned too heavily which proves it even more obvious but that was mostly a flat cap loss but we really can't afford to get one right away but it's not like we're going to challenge anyone anyway for the Stanley Cup so it can wait until we can afford the right guy, not a "settle" for guy, then we're looking a lot better BUT we need the whole team buying in to a complete 200 ft game, hard working, and "all in" mentality team, we have that in most guys but that's what JB is looking for more than anything and we'll get there, that's part of the reason I'm looking forward to seeing mini-me (hoglander) in a big brother form in Podz when he suits up for us, I think that's a nail in the coffin for JV here which unless he somehow changes his spots, but both upgrades on top 4 D and 1st-2nd line forward would give us a fighting chance but not too concerned...
  13. so can you tell me who else was available to be traded for insteaded, and for what price, and would they even agree to play in Canada if they're American born, or even want to play here in Vancouver with the fanbase how it is and moronic media too? I know I wouldn't if I had a choice in the matter and they do, first time it was made known a big name we needed here was JR and he stated clearly when he refused to play for the Canucks, and asked if he'd think about it and reconsider, his reply was "not on your life" but hey if you want to think that any player Vancouver fanbase wants here will just drop everything and come then you keep right on thinking that.. but it's only a bit better through the years since then but typically we've had to overpay most guys to be here.. it's not just cut and dry as many would make it out to be... ignorance at work I suppose.. whatever! lol Anyway, more to the point, it's not that simple AND to avoid that, JB started drafting and improving us through development more that ever so I don't see this being an issue as before...
  14. But as usual, as we did to Marky, Miller, etc etc.. our overall D let Luongo down and hit scapegoat status because he couldn't stand on his head every game year after year. Meh same ole $&!# until it gets sorted out and it will, JB has learned from his knocks like any other GM so I trust he'll do ok with the final upgrades we need and get our final finished product in 2 years, ready to go and make that serious cup push we've all been waiting for but until then, who cares? seriously, it's not rocket science that teams in our position of getting over the rebuild hump will NOT make a Stanley Cup appearance, it's just not reality although it seems like most so called fans, think it is, but really need to get over it already!
  15. I doubt Train will come here for 1.6 since he has more about him than toughness and I hope we get him back, more like 2-2.5 would be fine.
  16. yeah its rich in experience but most are too old, we already had/have vets around and got our mentoring already, just have to put it into practice better but it will come, so we hardly need anyone like that any longer
  17. No I don't think so as far as some people I see losing their _hit about how we are right now and doing the typical "fire TG, fire JB" crowd that fit right in to the "TJ Miller" was a bad trade when we actually won it, you know, those folks that are too clueless to think for themselves and choose to let the media do it for them so I hardly doubt it will stop anytime soon.. 2 years is when this team gets markedly better but until then, the haters will hate, however that kind of stupidity is annoying..
  18. nah that's not good enough, we need depth in the run that's coming and we can't settle for that and I bet JB knows it and trades up.. kids like OP don't come along often enough and we need a D core that will be around for awhile and depth to go along with it.. Actually this problem is nothing new, in the past we only had a fairly bigger than average D taking on Buffy though without even a Train or Myers to even think about moving Buffy from in front of Luongo and we lost to the Blackhawks because of it... that was heart breaking to watch, it needs to be a thing of the past, WE need to have some more pushback as well so, hard to go wrong trading up to get OP
  19. this is, we need a BIG D on each pairing.. you know if we have an average sized dmen the bigger forwards in the league like to park themselves in front of the crease and on each line pairing we need someone big enough to move them AND not a D liability (pylon) either, Power seems to be that sized plus skilled but at this rate, ottawa will snag him unless some phenom forward's breaks in and teams before us are heavy on D and don't need another one BUT you know how our luck goes..
  20. Here's the thing about Owen Power, he's 6'6 and reportedly a pretty good skater, IF he has good hockey sense and a decent shot and decent passing, I'd be more than happy with him here in nuckland. JB was trying something which alluded him but I believe he was looking for BIG stay at home dmen (crease clearing) to pair with smallish PMD's like Hughes, IF Train came back we'd have 3, Train, Myers, and Power (if he's NHL ready) as soon as next season, but since Nate has second pairing locked, all we need is a good third PMD on 3rd line. Myers befuddles me though, some night he plays good defensively and some nights.. not so much.. Anyway, would love to see Power in a Nux jersey, I doubt it though, if he stays high Uber high at the draft, we won't get him, since when are we ever that fortunate? Would be a odd sight for a change, 3 really good D pairings all at once in a season? That hasn't happened in a long time and wasn't for that long anyway.. sadly.. but who knows
  21. nah I'd leave it like it is, tanner is playing "ok" but like another poster said, tanner is just a place holder for Pods, but we need to have 4 lines that are doing great, THAT equals a cup contender... anything else isn't going to get there, a good roster all the way through with depth does. 80's Oilers who won it X5 is a pretty good example of that, they had a few maybe's that just barely fit that BUT it was as close as you'd need to be "the team to beat"
  22. I'm not sure I agree in one aspect though, above average middling players with roughly the same skillset isn't that hard to find and I'd rather someone there who lives and breathes hockey instead in a roster spot
