@SabreFan1 I saw Moore interview, where they asked him about Putin. I have to say his Russian was pretty good, very surprising for a Alabama country bumpkin.

@CBH1926He's not a dumb person, just a morally bankrupt one who has nothing but his own self interest in mind.

  2. Don't worry about it, once these guys get a taste of freedom in Canada, they will be back to normal. Europeans are welcoming them back as well, what could go wrong?

      Merry Christmas to you.

  4. Young people will rent, live with parents or move to boonies. Vancouver market will never get back where it used to be.
  5. You might be right about AdF, but unfortunately when you vote for someone that has some nazi tendencies, you get lumped in. Back in 1920's in USA, around 3 million white Protestants belonged to KKK, overwhelming majority never hurt or lynched anyone. It was kind of like social club for Protestants, including woman, children, politicians, officials etc. They hated Jews and Catholics as much as blacks. But for most people, first association with klan is bombing, lynching, murders and hatred of blacks. My issue with Germany, is that it swings either too far left or too far right. Its either they embrace ideas of Marx and Engels or Hitler. Growing up, far left terrorism in 1970 and 1980's was a big issue in Germany, other countries as well. Now the pendulum has been swinging the other way. There is nothing wrong with Europeans protecting their culture, heritage, language etc. Swiss have been doing a good job in curbing Islamic radicalism, and its financing from Saudi Arabia. I am hoping for Germany to find that middle road that doesn't include likes of Bader Meinhof or brown shirts. As far as my 1993 example, that kind of stuck with me, plenty of that happened in Rostock, Dresden, Berlin etc. Few years ago national socialist group was killing foreigners in Germany.
  6. In the eastern Germany, unemployment is higher, but number of immigrants is rather low. Back in 1993 5 Turkish women and children died in Solingen, when neo-nazis fire bombed the building. http://www.nytimes.com/1993/06/04/opinion/the-solingen-tragedy.html Eastern area has always had big neo-nazi presence. Everyone talks about 13% that AdF got but they actually won is Saxony with almost 30% of the votes.
  7. Since you like like the opinion of Germans on this topic, let me help you out. How about German foreign minister who refered to AfD as "true nazis" https://www.reuters.com/article/us-germany-election-nazis/german-foreign-minister-equates-far-right-afd-party-with-nazis-idUSKCN1BM1L4 Is opinion of Joschka Fisher, former vice chancellor and foreign minister of Germany sufficient enough for you? https://www.socialeurope.eu/germanys-grave-new-world You surely must agree that their opinion matters more, comparing to yours or mine, or some random German guys on this hockey board. If this is "vague" to you, you might want to look up definition of that word. Your second paragraph, is history book definition of WW2 reasons, most historians would agree on that. Lets talk about economy in Germany, which is doing well. Despite pumping hundreds of billions, into former east Germany, things are still bleak over there. Unemployment is pretty high, so it's not surprise that in Saxony AFD won, going from 6.8% to 29% of votes in 4 years. Also in Merkel's home state as well as Thuringia and Brandenburg, AFD had a very strong showing. So with "powerhouse economy" like you stated, AFD is 3rd strongest party in Germany. What happens if economy sinks or refugee crisis continues? As far as world being different now, like you mentioned I wonder how so? Egotistical narcissist, leading world largest power down the path of isolation and protectionism. Leaders like Trump, popping up in other countries, Czech Republic with Babish is next. Russia getting back its political power and getting involved in the elections perhaps. Syria, Montenegro, Ossetia, Ukraine etc. http://time.com/4955503/germany-elections-2017-far-right-russia-angela-merkel/ Largest refugee crisis in Europe, Brexit, separatist movements in Europe, Balkan powder keg, war in Ukraine, nuclear race, civil wars with global reaches, terrorism etc. Are these the examples that you consider "different world"? When it comes to global politics, lot of people exhibit naiveté and dilettantism these days. Luckily there are people out there, that are "grasping at straws" and calling this exactly what it is. Rise of fascism and moving to become main stream, just look how far right got energized in the USA. http://fpif.org/germany-and-the-rise-of-a-fascist-international/
  8. I did lose lot of family members in ww2, my old man alone lost 3 aunts, 3 uncles and a grandfather. Two aunts and two uncles were children, when they were executed. Rest of the family died fighting the nazis and local fascists. Most of your response, I don't really have disagreement with. As far as you saying that I resorted to personal attacks. I felt like you tried to minimize to impact of this election, and then throwing the statement how we should more worry about morons in the states. Europe in general has seen resurgence of far right like never before, at least not in 40 years that I have been living or going there. We will have to agree to disagree on who involved Trump first. Of course lot of AFD voters are not Hitler supporters, but lot of racists and fascists did vote for them. Most NPD voters have switched their allegiance, to me NPD is like a KKK. Hate crimes have gone way up, also lot of those crimes are unreported or buried. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/dec/15/neo-nazi-murders-revealing-germanys-darkest-secrets http://www.huffingtonpost.com/cas-mudde/politically-motivated-cri_b_11433068.html https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/28/world/europe/germany-crime-far-right.html http://articles.latimes.com/1994-04-14/news/mn-45820_1_immigrant-women
  9. I have provided links to articles that compare rise of far right in Germany to 1930's. Do you have anything to back up your claim besides your worthless opinion? My original comment, stated that I have interest in Germany due to WW2. If you think that my response constitutes "faux offense" you might need to brush up on your French.
  10. Let me start by saying that my family is not and was not Jewish, I am not sure where you got that idea from. As far as my concerns go, I am concerned about the rise of the far right in Europe. Lot of other people, that don't get their news from the onion, are concerned as well I mentioned AH to make a point about taking years for him to rise to power. In 1919 handful of WW1 German veterans, started this party that ended up causing tens of millions of deaths. In 4 years AFD went from 4.7% to almost 13%, in eastern parts of Germany they got 20% plus votes. As far as AdF goes, to compare them to the republicans is inaccurate and baseless. Everyone refers to them as far right with ties to nazis, right now people that are protesting in Germany are using term "no to nazis" Opinion of some random guy from Germany that they are like GOP, is irrelevant to this matter. Also lot of former NPD voters from Germany have switched to AFD, Torsten Krauel who is the political chief for Die Welt has compared the rise of AfD to 1933. Sure people disagree, but he brings some interesting points. Its nice to hear that you follow world affairs, but you did bring USA political situation into this, which I pointed out. Since you mentioned my views on German immigration, let me help you out. I have always criticized Western Europe in regards to their integration of the immigrants. Also Germany has used its economic power to bully other smaller EU countries. Your last point that I should be more supportive of AFD. I take that as a cheap shoot, and won't waste my time to respond to that. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-germany-election-afd/far-right-party-likened-to-nazis-to-shake-up-german-parliament-idUSKCN1BS0H0 https://www.welt.de/politik/deutschland/article168996285/Vom-heilsamen-Zwang-eines-Wahldesasters.html https://www.cnbc.com/2017/09/25/german-far-right-afd-party-raises-concerns-about-nazi-ideology-of-the-past-warns-ex-merkel-official.html https://www.thelocal.de/20170924/far-right-afd-marches-into-parliament-with-strong-election-results http://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/features/2017/09/german-election-afd-170921080912611.html
  11. What I am interested in, is really none of your business or concern. Especially in regards to my family!
  12. This was a thread about election in Germany, you are the one that brought up another country. As a European, and a person that lost lot of family members to those same Germans, you can see why I would be interested. You also brought up the argument, why worry about Germany when there are bigger issues in the USA. Sure DT is acting like a petulant child, but that still doesn't change the fact that AfD got into Bundestag.
  13. I agree there are morons in my country, just like any other country. What I wonder is why people that live in Canada, are so obsessed with the morons in another country. Germany thing is concerning, but since it doesn't involve Trump i know it doesn't have your attention.
  14. Slowly but surely, AfD got 2 million votes back in 2013, the arrow is pointing up. I am fairly certain that they might get close to 10% this time around. Austrian painter didn't take over in 1938, it took many years for him to climb to the top.
  15. This weekend's election in Germany might bring some changes in the Bundestag. For the first time ever since WW2, a far right party will most likely get dozens of seats in the parliament. Years ago parties like NDP, AFD, Swedish Democrats, BNP, Jobbik etc. were fringe parties. Slowly but surely they are becoming mainstream and gaining more followers. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2017/09/20/german-election-2017/?utm_term=.b2089975451f

  19. Best of luck to everyone in Texas.
  20. That is the best solution, why get aggravated for no reason, like they say "you can't fix the stupid" Now I understand why my grandparents never really talked about WW2.
  21. In response to your last paragraph, the only people that understand war are the ones that were "participants"
  22. I think Spain came up with this EU army idea, it's short for Estados Unidos
  23. Realistically speaking, Germany needs to spend more and to lead Europe militarily. On the other hand, a thought of Germany increasing military budget, makes me slightly uncomfortable. Where have I seen that before.......hmmmmm, I wonder?
