  1. Murder rate in Canada is 4 times higher than Switzerland or Italy for example. Amongst western and developed nations Canada is close to the top in terms of murders. But as long as it’s lower than the U.S, things are good in the eyes of many.
  2. I guess the 2nd victim was not a gang member. People have to select their friends and associates more carefully nowadays. https://vancouversun.com/news/crime/brothers-keeper-gangster-shot-to-death-in-whistler
  3. More along lines, if someone is driving exhausted they might be more likely to pull over. Or if you feel like you were unprepared for trucking job, maybe you get another job because you don’t want to end up in the same situation. Generally for vehicular homicides you get slap on the wrist in Canada, drunk, negligent, accidental it doesn’t really matter. Marco Muzzo was intoxicated when he killed 4 people in Ontario, including 3 kids, he served 5 years. So I guess getting 8 years by Canadian standards is a lot.
  4. I think most people understand that bigger and heavier the vehicle is, more damage it will inflict to another vehicle in case of an accident. Driving semi truck requires even more vigilance and safety precaution than driving a regular car, hence the reason it’s not for everyone. I don’t think they should bring out the guillotine but maybe if someone served the full sentence, it might prevent another deadly accident.
  5. So basically breaking the law, regardless of if it was his idea or the guy that owned the trucking company. I don’t think he set out to kill these kids on purpose but at the end of the day many lives were lost. He killed 16 people, and might be out soon, that is not even 3 months per victim!
  6. I am surprised that he he served even this much time, probably going to be paroled soon. https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/truck-driver-in-deadly-humboldt-broncos-bus-crash-granted-day-parole/ar-AAZMY6H?li=AAggXBV
  7. Shooting an unarmed old man is a cowardly act, but only if that man is innocent. If you are involved in mass murder of civilians, to me it makes no difference if you are 20 or 90. Once you take an innocent life, you have forfeited your right to live.
  8. Calgary is like Switzerland comparing to Columbus. Although Salem NJ where he is originally from is another giant $&!#hole so maybe Ohio is an upgrade in his mind.
  9. I tried looking it up again, but couldn’t find it. I think it was in West Van but I am not 100% sure.
  10. I don’t know about Canada but south of you, politicians have been spending like drunken sailors for years. Sooner or later it will catch up despite the fact that they just keep printing more money,
  11. Saw pre sale for building being ready in 2029. Unless the year was a typo, you really have to be stupid to buy something that’s not ready for another 7 years.
  12. Economies of scale is one of the reasons.
  13. Still plenty of gold and money to be stolen, most of armored truck robberies don’t report the amount stolen. I wouldn’t say that stealing almost 5 million in gold or 1 million in cash is not worth it. https://www.jacksonville.com/story/news/nation-world/2015/03/02/48m-gold-bars-stolen-sunday-armored-truck-heist-i-95/15653013007/ https://www.clickondetroit.com/news/2015/11/27/greektown-armored-car-robber-walks-away-with-500000/ https://www.fox32chicago.com/news/armored-car-robbers-allegedly-get-away-with-500000 https://www.star-telegram.com/news/local/crime/article242683866.html
  14. Most of bank robberies around where I live don’t even involve any guns. They just give a teller a note saying it’s a robbery and tellers are trained to give them what’s in the drawers. To get “real money” you need to rob armored truck but that requires heavy firepower, multiple robbers and typically results in a shootout.
  15. Bank robberies are waste of time, according to the FBI in 2019 average bank robbery loot was little over $4300. Definitely not worth spending 5-10 years in the slammer.
  16. Food prices have skyrocketed in the last several months, price of oil has gone way up. I don’t think an average citizen knows how many ordinary household items are made in part from petroleum. Add war in one of the largest wheat producing nations and Covid and voila. Blaming Biden, Trudeau, Macron, Johnson etc. is just politics. With all of us being connected globally, every country will feel it, some more some less.
  17. Inflation is getting bad in the U.S, Canada, U.K, Eastern Europe, Western Europe etc. Blaming it on a single leader is just politics, it has nothing to do with the economic reality right now.
  18. I agree with this, just like very harsh sentences in Muslim countries don’t stop drug trade. For me the death penalty is about exacting revenge, case in point. Charles Warner beat to death an 11 month old after he raped her. I can’t even begin to understand how someone could do something like that. Before he was executed, he said that his body was on fire as the state of Oklahoma botched his execution. He suffered before he died since they jabbed him 5 times. This is awful thing to say but I just can’t feel any empathy. In perfect world, we wouldn’t have monsters like him and this poor baby would still be alive but unfortunately we don’t live in such world. The fact that he was killed will not bring her back but at least we know that he won’t harm anyone else.
  19. Saw this story earlier. https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/former-b-c-child-star-had-plans-to-kill-justin-trudeau-after-killing-his-mother-documents/ar-AAYtfHv?cvid=ef59a8a069494563802541c1036c8cf7
  20. Disturbing! https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/police-in-brazil-gas-man-to-death-in-trunk-of-car-video-appears-to-show/ar-AAXLWV9?li=BBnb7Kz
