  1. Re; 1st bolded: Hopefully. Lets pray. Re; 2nd bolded: I think that would be difficult to prove given the vaccines didn't end up stopping the spread, & Omicron itself has been something of a new challenge even for the vaccines. (Unfortunately) If there is any benefit to this, I hope it just sends a message to our leaders that many people are prepared to accept the risk & return to normal.
  2. Where does the government get money for anything? I don't even know how someone could prove that there is some "control" going on, but it is transparent that they have been continually subsidizing media outlets in recent years - if this is in any way part of your question. (?) https://www.canadaland.com/canadian-media-liberals-trudeau-government-funding-covid-cbc-erin-otoole/ https://www.canadaland.com/media-in-trudeaus-10-million-top-up-fund/ https://pressprogress.ca/postmedia-tells-shareholders-35-million-in-federal-government-handouts-is-now-a-key-pillar-of-its-business-strategy/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2018/11/28/canada-plans-hefty-aid-package-its-struggling-media-sector-not-everyone-is-pleased/ https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/journalists-question-media-bailout-1.5147761 FWIW I seriously have alot of problems with the media, but I don't know if I would get conspiratorial.
  3. Ironically I just came across this. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatchewan/scott-moe-proof-of-vaccination-twitter-1.6332514 I agree protests generally don't do anything (I didn't/don't expect from this). I don't agree that its an effort to destabilize government, though I saw the CBC trying to float the idea that this is just a Russian conspiracy. There are certainly some awful people co-opting this, but I think alot of Canadians are just trying to send a message they would like an imminent return to normalcy / not revolution. Re; the bolded I hope you mean that earnestly I do generally find enjoyment interacting with you & others despite our often disagreements.
  4. He's... brave.. I'll give him that, but maybe he should be pulling that coat together.
  5. Do you not think the statistic I provided about Ontario & the narrative we are being sold is at all a little ridiculous? (Even a smidge) And C'mon, lets be honest here, its not just these people that are causing divisiveness. Just taking in what the institutions have presented to us at face value (across time) has left many people who normally don't engage politically asking questions (not all of them in an unreasonable or radical way). If that's the conclusion, then IMO its (a) a misunderstanding/labelling of many reasonable people who are questioning this, and (b) essentially an admission that we (as Canadians) can't even talk to each other civilly over important disagreements anymore, not a good sign for democracy.
  6. There are deeper issues are play here Heff that we will be dealing with for a long time. I don't even want to bring up the V word but theoretically even with 100% rate hospitals will be an issue. BC has stopped providing detailed data (if the data they ever provided was actually adequate in the first place), so I just looked up some from Ontario; As of today 667 unvaccinated people are admitted to Hospital for Covid in a Province of 14.75+ Million. That's 0.0045% whom alone are sinking the healthcare system for everyone else, we're told... its a little ridiculous. That's not to say some marginal improvement (if these people got vaccinated) wouldn't/couldn't be worthwhile, but its just meant to give some perspective that there's a much bigger issue with just this situation alone, never-mind everything else that mandates & divisiveness is doing to our country.
  7. I don't really agree that everything we've done has resulted in the best case scenario (or will). Obviously there was a point in time when we thought things could be much much worse - potentially 15% of the population (conservatively) wiped out in relatively short order, exc - and that required this response & the utmost patience + care as things progressed, but I do think we are at a point now where there needs to be a serious question of whether the cure may be worse than the disease (at the very least in some respects). I think younger populations especially are really bearing the brunt of the response & I'm not sure if that's right (while acknowledging that by no means is this analysis an easy thing to weigh). I guess that's kind of my pushback. I could go on and on but suffice it to say I think there are deeper issues at play here. On a personal level I just want to say it has been nice to come here and interact with you and others in the GDT's, and bond over something that takes our minds off our problems. We are all going through this together & regardless of if we think things are being handled correctly I hope we don't get too lost the divisiveness that we can't listen to each other.
  8. Justin Trudeau is not a leader. And for that matter neither is Erin O'Toole. Both are failures as the heads of our 2 biggest parties imo. People who deliver food to grocery stores, gas to gas stations, exc. do provide a clear benefit to the society. There are clearly going to be (and have been) significant consequences to the pandemic response. Protesting that those consequences aren't being given enough consideration in the face of something with a 99% survival rate isn't unreasonable. It doesn't have to be such a binary thing, there are plenty of valid issues at play.
  9. I personally support the protest because I want a return to normalcy, for my own mental health which is at the worst point of my life by far & the mental health/well being of others, small businesses, developing children, exc. I also think the long-term cost of the pandemic response itself is going to be profound - my gut feel worse than the virus itself. It is really a shame in these situations to see the actual fringes join in & get the spot light because there are fellow citizens with earnest concerns that get completely disregarded. (You saw this with looters & Antifa taking some of the spotlight during the summer BLM protests aswell). I completely disavow Nazi flags, White Supremacists, disgracing statues, exc. Those people aren't the majority. I know many people personally whom I love that are just struggling & are tired of this. They are not bad people. We need to stop the constant binary thinking & viewing opposition as extreme. That's not the sign of a healthy democracy. We need unity in this country & not to keep going down the road of division mirroring the US.
  10. Its not about just the vaccine mandate. I said that quite clearly in my post. As for your last question, if we had real leadership maybe they could be work something out, but maybe not as well.
  11. I don't know about trading Miller, its a night & day difference in how much more dangerous we are with him.
  12. Carter was great his one year here, really enjoyed watching him. Its a shame he didn't stay - his career fizzled out quickly after that.
  13. Probably get him at league minimum. I'd even consider a 2 year deal, worst case if he's not the backup he could be an organizational soldier like Bachman was. Though the way he's playing.... maybe you could get something for him at the deadline??? Who knows.
  14. Looks like we are witnessing Martin become a legit asset. Good revelation for someone that was a no-cost contract dump.
