  1. Hughes was kind of in no-mans land for a second there. Decent back pressure though.
  2. They always do this. (Just like the Diwali jersey). A great logo wasted on a practice jersey. Would be nice to put more effort in & make something truly special.
  3. Sadly is there isn't one presently - barring advances in treatment. (Maybe finally focusing on early treatment might help) I guess we could lockdown for awhile & hope it goes away.
  4. And people are still being hospitalized in large numbers with the vaccine, so having co-morbidities regardless is still the fundamental problem. That's my point. I said vaccines help greatly, but it's unfortunately not bulletproof enough to overcome the primary issue of co-morbidities. (Especially as they wane). I also think there was a massive missed opportunity to promote healthy lifestyle / exercise at the very beginning when everybody was afraid & super health conscious. Which could've had a profound effect on people's lives (even if it was only a percentage of the population that took it to heart). Maybe coming out of this we can have more of a focus on that. The BC liberal leader pounding the drum of gyms being essential is a decent start.
  5. As I said to Stawns, I'll have to try & see if I can refind some of the things ive come across to add to the discussion, but from what I understand having co-morbidities is really the big hinge in Covid death. It's been made about vaccination (for some good reasons), but co-morbidities really seems to be the hinge. Fixing that will take focus on infrastructure & treatment. My post was definitely idealistic. (And more philosophic than related specifically to C19). There is a social contract for sure, but it's constantly held up against the core principal of the freedom of the individual, hence our complicated legal system. Like you may not have the right to just get in a car & drive, or operate a semi truck with a class 5, but you absolutely still have the freedom/right to earn those licenses - the state doesn't decide who can or can't access those opportunity. What I was trying to get at is; the core idea of freedom as being inherent to the individual (and not granted by the state) is b/c we presume individuals have instrinsic value. If freedom begins at - and is a privilege granted/dictated by - the state then it's an authoritarian state basically by definition. again this is more philosophic but I do think it's important to keep in mind as we hopefully get back to normalcy.
  6. I've come across some info recently in my musings. I'm pretty sure there was something from the CDC that most deaths from covid (like 90+) have been 4 or more comorbidities. I'll have to see if I can find some when I have more time. To be clear; It'll help if they all got it yes absolutely, but I also think the problem will still persist regardless & that's part of it that we don't quite get too in these conversations..
  7. Co-morbidities, Co-morbidities, Co-morbidities. Many of the unvaccinated in hospitals have Co morbidities. Over time many will still be in hospitals if they take the vaccine due to co morbidities. This is why we see vaccinated starting to make up more of the hospitalizations b/c even as the vaccine has worked to prevent serious illness, the co Morbidities are still the biggest factor with Covid. Yes, the number would be less than it is now, absolutely - but it's not eradicating whatever the number the UVs currently take up. It's smaller margin than that. Hospitalizations will likely still be an issue for the healthcare system, which was likely insufficient in the first place (and has since lost a ton of workers).
  8. Freedom of the individual is the greatest thing humanity has ever achieved. In the West its a right not a privilege. That's the way the West was born & was able to thrive. Freedom is a right because individuals (and their potential) have intrinsic value above the state. 'Freedom is a privilege' under authoritarian states.
  9. They are just a really really good team. Not many teams you'll outshoot like that (and play well against), but they'll still be comfortably in control
  10. Sorta, I don't recall 10 day layoffs under Green though. (or 7 game winning streaks) It's 1 game, we'll see how they respond.
  11. Yeah I should've differentiated between the two.
  12. Houston seems like a desirable spot but is it even ready for a team? Wasn't the Rockets owner not particularly interested in the NHL coming into that building?
  13. That pick was crazy. Remember thinking BEST CASE scenario was a Max Lappierre type 4th liner. In 5th/6th round sure, but tough to pass on Severson there.
  14. Not our night. Layoff hurt but not the end of the world. Florida is really good & we outshot them by alot. Onto the next
  15. Thats so awful. I saw another story about an urgent care center in Brampton having to shut down due to staffing shortages. (https://tnc.news/2022/01/11/brampton-hospital-closes-urgent-care-centre-due-to-staffing-shortages/) I don't want to walk into another tired argument about the vaccine; but I remember seeing a post (similar to what you are saying here I suppose) that they were allowing HCW's who have tested positive to work because they are short staffed.** Now that we know the vaccine doesn't prevent transmission, it seems completely insane to me that they are allowing that while they've just fired all these other people at a time when the healthcare system is under such strain. (A health care system that was likely already inadequate to begin with). Self inflicted wound. **Edit 2: Found the link, Quebec has already while others are considering it. https://globalnews.ca/news/8479456/bc-covid-19-positive-health-care-workers/ https://globalnews.ca/news/8477772/provinces-covid-positive-healthcare-staff-work/
  16. And come up with a better (early) treatment policy than lay in bed until you can't breathe
  17. I believe Quebec is already on the way to mandating a 3rd shot. I think many people who have gotten 2 don't want a 3rd, but still likely a minority amongst the full vaxxed. We will see if/when it happens.
  18. A great summary of life right now lol Our beloved authority. Im just thinking - with the 2 dose vaccines waning and all - it would make sense to mandate another booster (logically)... unless they are just going to ditch the mandates all together when it comes up in a few weeks (doubtful). I hope you are right about the bolded & we can start moving beyond this stuff. It would be nice to see our resources focused towards infrastructure.
  19. Any idea when they are going to mandate 3rd doses?
