  1. Yup rebounds are going to be the big key. Gotta get those rebounds.
  2. Kawhi getting doubled team as much as possible. Not gunna be easy for him, but atleast it'll open up a shot for someone else.
  3. Caufield's skating doesn't really concern me. He's not super fast like Jack Hughes but he skates fine. His speed is good, he's not slow. His game isn't skating with the puck anyways, skating shouldn't hold him back.
  4. I find it interesting that he initiated the trade conversation, Jeff's original question wasn't specific to a trade. Seems like they're looking to make a move, & the pick isn't automatically out of play. Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if they are interested in PK again. I'm not totally against trading this pick for a really good defenseman, I just wonder at this point about PK's age. Not sure he's the right fit, I'd be thinking more along the lines of Trouba or someone a little younger. But it also all depends who's available at the pick. Like in 2016 if they traded PLD for Subban I probably would've been pissed.
  5. Part of the proposal was EDM adding something else, which was up for discussion. I agree just the draft pick swap isnt enough. I've said that pretty clearly. Look at what your giving up, Eriksson doesn't bring much of anything to the team. The one thing would be penalty killing, but we have other guys who can kill penalties. Otherwise he's slow, doesn't produce, doesn't stand up for teammates, doesn't make his teammates better. And he's apparently not happy in his role here. Something's going to have to be done. Atleast in this scenario we add assets & get rid of Eriksson rather than give up assets to get rid of him. Atleast Lucic can fill a role we actual need. Maybe he can be a useful player in a bottom 6 role. Look at the playoffs, look at a guy like Pat Maroon for STL, or Reaves for VGK last year, bigger bodies are still needed when the games get tough. You give Lucic a couple years & see how he does in that role. Then your looking at only 2 years remaining, which is easier to move. If his body doesn't break down before the end of his contract, leaving him to go on IR.
  6. Interesting bit here from Benning. https://www.tsn.ca/gm-benning-canucks-aim-to-shore-up-defence-in-off-season-1.1313689 That doesnt seem like a certainty he will even pick. A few things to consider: a) Trading our pick is rumored every year. BUT, this year its extremely unlikely a player the Canucks have top 3 falls to us like w/ Petey & Hughes. b) Benning knows he needs to improve this defense. And we dont have alot of assets to get a really good D. c) how does the draft being in Van effect this. JB's said all year they dont want to trade picks, but now that weve lost the lottery, is it a chance to make a splash at home like NJ & PIT did. I think trading the pick is a greater possibility this year than years past. But to guess, id say we probably end up making the pick.
  7. I don't know. The Bruins aren't really that tough. The Blues are a bigger team. Columbus was a bigger/tougher team. I think the Canucks core could do fine against this B's squad, but against a team like STL I don't see it. I do agree we aren't being built that way, but there is still opportunity to change things.
  8. Friedman "The 2 days off is massive for the Bruins, because those guys need a break" .... He says after they just had 10 days off.....
  9. Yup. When you've had the zebras in your back pocket, might aswell try going back to the well in a time of need.
  10. This Blues team is so admirable. They play hard, they outwork you, and they are resilient. I want to see the Canucks play like that
  11. Lol at Boston (Kuraly & I think Marchand) diving to try & get a call. STL just totally outworked them, earned a pp that they didnt even need.
  12. But your almost forgetting that its Loui Eriksson going the other way. Edmonton gets out of the expansion draft problem, but they are still taking a bad contract at the same cap hit. For in some ways a more useless player. So if look elsewhere, say we pay a decent contract in free agency, and we are still stuck with Loui Eriksson. If we weren't to look this route, and just try to ditch Eriksson, then we are adding assets for other teams to take him which we can't afford. Sure you help Edmonton free up an ED spot & 1 year of bad contract, but we are also getting out a bad contract & getting rid of a terrible player in the process. We can't forget that Eriksson has a bad contract & is also a terrible player. I think Lucic has tightened up his act over time, when I say that I'm thinking of the 2014 montreal series where he was going off in the handshake line. As far as I know there's no history of teammate problems, he just sometimes has the wires cross in the head of the battle.
  13. I don't agree. 10 to 8 could be the difference between getting Boldy/Cozens & not getting Boldy/Cozens. And I said something else aswell, the pick swap wouldn't be the only thing. Completely agree with the bolded. And again, I said they'd have to add something else like another younger player. I see value in 8 to 10 because that could be the difference between getting a big top 6 winger like Boldy vs taking a 2nd pair D like Soderstrom or Broberg. Add another good piece from EDM & I see value you in. Its a great opportunity to draft a better player & get another asset back. Plus Lucic is a need for us, contracts aside if you were to take 1 guy on your team I'd much rather Lucic than Eriksson. Atleast he provides some needed muscle & intimidation in a bottom 6 role. I see where your coming from but personally I don't view his character as an issue. I think he tends to lose his cool alot more than the average guy, he's done somethings for sure. But overall I think he's a solid vet who's been there & done that, and he's willing to be the first guy to stand up for his teammates. Which we need with this young group IMO. It doesn't matter what he does offensively, that's now why we'd bring him in. I don't want to watch this young group be pushed around. Gudbranson while not fighting alot (I'd argue b/c of his position) does leave a hole in our lineup. And again, everyone responding seems to conveniently ignore the part where I (clearly) said they'd have to add something else. And by that I mean a younger player/asset that can grow with our young group. Ultimately if Lucic ditches the NMC (which the whole deal would hinge on) its only 1 extra year your taking on, and getting assets to aid the rebuild in the process. Plus the player can actual add something to the team, unlike Loui who's just taking up a roster spot.
  14. Jason Gregor in Edmonton said that Lucic problem this past year was more handling the puck like a grenade than being a total slug. And in the games I saw him he didnt stand out as being behind the play really. And Loui's legs are starting to go now, hes really slowed down alot too. Gregor said Jim Benning has discussed it internally. And I think he should. Its an opportunity to get an asset(s) from the Oil & address a need. The big problem is the expansion draft. If Lucic agrees to ditch his NMC upon coming here I'd be interested depending on what we get. Id say swap #8 & #10 plus something else.
  15. Broberg & Soderstrom should be the considerations if were going D. Harley's more of a project IMO. York is good but unspectacular.
  16. They started out so well too. They just couldn't get it back after taking some penalties. They've rebounded before, this is a mentally tough group. I think they can answer back, but its slim margin for error the way the Bruins are playing.
