  1. Maybe I'm out to lunch, but I thought Gardiner was expecting Matthews to continue down & grab that puck. Matthews was his usual passive self in the D-zone. He zoned out on the play. You could tell b/c the puck was turned over & his head snapped back looking for his check.
  2. Rolling Stones, nice. Great intro. As if I wasn't already excited enough for this game.
  3. For the most part id be avoiding long term contracts this year. Theres certain guys Id make an exception for (Lee might be one), but if some of these guys want 4+ years then we should be out. Id be more interesting in weaponizing cap space, doing what Carolina did getting Taravinen, doing what Toronto did getting Jake Gardiner. This year alot of teams are going to have to move contracts. To me this is something we should have been doing before instead of signing our own bad contracts, but there's still time to do it. Id be more interested in taking James Neal from Calgary for example & getting a good return for doing it than signing Simmonds to a long term + big money deal.
  4. Not really because he was following up the play & knew exactly where the guy was after the initial shot. Ive seen him make plays like this before. I agree he wasnt a huge standout. Im not sold that hes a definite star player, but I think he'll be a good top 6 even if he doesnt hit his star potential. Although last year, alot of ppl doubted Brady Tkachuk & his upside in the same kinda way. He didnt have amazing stats. And he looks like a great pick.
  5. Cute little "Canucks killer" (and leafs killer) comment MacLean threw in talking about Bergeron & this game 7. They still love taking shots at us all these years later. Anyways, Friedman was saying that Boston is lobbying the league to take a closer look at Leafs tripping their guys, of course the Bruins would do that. I wish both teams could lose this game 7. Whoever wins, I hope CBJ mops the floor with them, Tampa style.
  6. Rinne could only hold keep them afloat for so long. Nashville came on towards the end, but too little too late.
  7. Johansen should've got a chance off that. Not a great period for Nashville so far, aside from that shift.
  8. I agree that they should have had a long term vision when they took over. But the Sedins were never going to be traded & they never should have been. That part is ridiculous. Anyways, I think this team needs to add some size & some muscle. But this years UFA group concerns me. I wouldn't be giving Simmonds much, his game been trending the wrong way. Giving him a 5 or more years has Eriksson/Lucic potential IMO. Not sold on Ferland either, injuries are becoming a problem for him. There's still the weaponizing cap space route rather than signing a big UFA deal. I'd look at taking on Callahan's deal from TB if we could get a good asset back.
  9. Lots of debate on Caufield. He will score goals in the NHL, there's no doubt about it. How many he scores depends on his situation. He's got 40 goal potential like DeBrincat, but he won't get there if he has to carry his line. And at his size he's obviously not going to bring much else. For the Canucks? I'm unsure about him. He's pretty safe IMO b/c he'll score, but with him our top players are going to be smaller, which is concerning for the playoffs. However my other thought is; at some point he might be clearly the BPA, & passing on him only b/c of size isn't smart. For me it depends on who's there. Not my first choice, but we're adding goals to our team in taking him.
  10. Podkolzin kind of reminds me of the Tkachuks (more so Matthew), in the sense that down low & around the net is his office. I don't agree that he was invisible against the USA. I thought the details of his game were very strong. He had a beauty no look assist. Also pushed Boldy around (who's bigger than him) to win a board battle & get the puck out on another shift. I'd agree that he didn't jump out like you'd hope a consensus top 3 pick would, but this USA team is incredible.
  11. 3 was at the beginning of this season. So the contract has 2 years left after the draft.
  12. https://m.sport-express.ru/hockey/khl/reviews/intervyu-17-letnego-forvarda-ska-vasiliya-podkolzina-goly-podkolzina-krasivye-goly-hokkey-1458920/ Heres a Russian interview with Podkolzin. This is from September. Theres alot more, I just took a few snippets relating to playing in the NHL.
