[Rumour] Canucks Getting Calls on Luke Schenn
Smashian Kassian replied to Warhippy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Idk. If they can move Myers are Severson or Dumba of interest? It might not improve personnel wise this offseason but I think having a team structure & defending as a 5 man unit will be most important. -

Strange interview. I liked the question about the OT & 1-8 format but he shot it down completely. -

This is so much fun to watch -
(I'll preface all my comments by saying that I've just started really digging into draft lately. I do have notes from U18's I made on alot of these guys but I haven't been following it a ton since) Anyways I disagree here completely. I don't know how much you've seen him(?), maybe more than me, but from what I've seen he's the kind of guy who can score whenever he gets a chance to shoot. His shot is that good & he can create space+rush chances with his speed. I also think he's a smart player that can find holes & get chances around the net as opposed to a pure rush player like a Virtanen was. He's slight right now sure. I'm not sold he'll need 2+ years, but even if he does need time I don't think 'needing a yr or 2' is a unique critique at all. And in that respect he could be a Barzal-like prospect who takes time but then has the elite tools to be an impactful NHLer when he does arrive. (I have to watch more of Dvorsky & Moore)

He's not quite MacKinnon but similar tools. I'd say Seguin-like, he was that kind of player prior to MacKinnon taking it to another level. The top of this draft is insane. The top 4 (Bedard, Michkov, Carlsson, Fantilli) are all potential franchise players & Id say Yager while not quite 'franchise' level is a potential 1C.
-
I really hope Brayden Yagers "underwhelming" stats allow him to fall too us. Very fast & smart 2-way C with a cannon of a wrist shot. The tools are incredible.

Zach Benson = Gaudreau-ish? + Amazing vision & IQ, great hands, shifty, quick first steps, plays with determination. - Small, not a straight line burner, fine but unspectacular shot. Style comparable this is kind of what I come up with, could see more of a 200ft impact from Benson but I imagine him primarily as a creative playmaking winger.

One of the things Rutherford said a year ago that it doesn't seem many picked up on - which he's right about - was that if you add the right 3-4 players you can take a big step, and if you lose the wrong 3-4 players you can fall back. (Plus bringing in a coaching staff that is going to work on instilling a team structure & team mentality is huge) LA for as much as they've built a great prospect group, they've retool their team with different veterans (Carter, Toffoli, Muzzin, exc. out / Danalut, Arvidsson, Fiala in) around the old pillars of Doughty/Kopitar. Depends how much your retaining & what your doing elsewhere. Right now they have <5M in projected cap space next season w/ 4 of their 8D as free agents. You don't want a Devon Toews-like opportunity to come along at the draft (and/or a perfect UFA opportunity after it) & not be able to do it b/c you retained 50% Brock or added a bad contract in return. (Unless the return was insane of course).
-
Well it depends on the situation, that's fair, if Holtz & a 2nd are on the table to retain 1.5 then yes of course you do it. The most important thing with Brock is clearing cap-space. I don't think your overhauling your prospect pool with Brock even if he was making 4M. And regarding the bolded I don't think management sees it that way (complete tear down). As long as they have Hughes, Demko & specifically Pettersson they arent going to intentionally tank. Having money available to capitalize on opportunities if they arise is important.

Miller can be a prick but I don't think that means he's an untenable cancer in the room. Kesler was an emotional guy that could be a prick but he was a valuable player (like JT) & they managed fine with him. Kypreos was right when he called the Canucks room a country club, that culture is why the team underachieved despite having alot of talent on the roster. So part of fixing that is changing up the mix. Not to mention the salary cap situation & Brock's underperformance.

He was so so good in that playoff series. 4 pts in 6 games as a 4th liner. I was at game 1, ended in heartbreak but it was fun to be there for that goal. I bought his jersey at that game too. It was so much fun to finally have a great young player like that (since Hodgson was short lived). He became my favourite player right away. And here's the goal your talking about. What a beast.
-
I think Allvin likes Beauvillier. Mentioned multiple times he's seen him in the playoffs (at his best). If he can score at a 20 goal pace next year he could be an asset at the deadline. And in the meanwhile maybe he can help the PK. This is alot closer to taking on a year of something like Garland than someone like Eriksson or Roussel.

Some complaint about them not getting a D prospect, well who was out there with the rumoured teams? Ryker Evans in Seattle, Thomas Harley or Lian Bishcel in Dallas? Someone like Jiricek or Nemec was never happening. Raty was the Isles #1 prospect which is nothing to scoff at. But the big thing is the 1st, none of those teams can offer as good a draft pick even without the potential unprotected status. A top 15 pick in this draft could be massive, nvm a higher one next year.

Sad that Bo is gone, despite this being inevitable it was always going to suck. Bo felt like a career Canucks. It's a shame we were so bad throughout his time here. All the best to Bo On first look its good valuewise for a rental. Beauvillier is a youngish middle 6 C/W that has shown flashes, he'll add speed. Raty was supposed to be a top pick then fell to 2nd Rnd in his draft year. I haven't really followed him since but I see some are quite happy about this. And of course it's nice getting another first. Bittersweet, really bittersweet.
