  1. He had a dry spell in the middle of the season where the production wasn't there. After that he picked up again & has been good (PPG) in the playoffs. Think he was dealing with some injuries, missed a couple games in January (lower body) & then again in February (upper body). He's a bit raw but has more upside than Turcotte. I'd take Dach. Don't see the Rasmussen comp myself. Dach has way better hands, and overall offensive skill/IQ. Dach reminds me more of Spezza. Don't mind the Domi comp for Turcotte, I'd add that he has a better 200ft game than Domi IMO. Not sure Domi was a natural center like Turcotte.
  2. Demko's not close to Schneider when we traded him. Not even close. Schneider was considered a star goalie & had already played (albeit a lockout shortened) season as a starter. Schneider was proven.
  3. Yeah there's no reason for us to do that right now. Looking back that's been pretty much the return for promising young goalies that aren't proven. Only time I can think of where a younger goalie returned a roster player was Bishop for Corey Conacher & he didn't work out at all for Ottawa. (or I guess Bernier for Matt Frattin)
  4. I don't know which team is going to pay a big return for Demko when he's barely played this year & isn't proven at the NHL level. I'd imagine you might get a 2nd round pick if a team really likes him.
  5. 1. Dach 2 Turcotte 3. Soderstrom Id be shocked if Dach falls to our pick though
  6. Pretty good. The Blades were out matched most the game but Dach had his moments. He was good defensively. He reads the play well down low & can use his reach/size to get pucks free. Had a really nice play along the wall where 2 guys were on him & he was able to pull the puck out into the middle with his reach & get away from both. Offensively had some nice rushes. He had one where he turned on the jets as he entered the zone, cutting right around the D then right in for a chance, pulled it backhand but Scott got the blocker across & made a nice save. The Raiders were playing him really hard, trying to hit him any chance they got. One guy took a run at him in the neutral zone knocked him into the boards hard. Dach then pushed right back and put the guy on his @$$ and a scrum insued. When I fell asleep in the 3rd it was 4-1 Raiders and they had taken over the game. Not sure if Dach ended up getting on the scoresheet or not. I think the Blades are going to be up against it in this series, Prince Albert's been the best team in the WHL this year. On another note I really liked Leason's game. Guy was everywhere winning battles, turning pucks over & making plays. Had a nice assist on the 3rd goal IIRC.
  7. I'd love to get Brett Leason at our 2nd rounder. Doubt he falls that far, but that would be great if he did. Should be a really solid pro.
  8. That would be the dream scenario. Can't see it, but I'd be doing backflips if it happens lol Trading up is something I was wondering about too. I'd be willing to add a bit to ensure Byram.
  9. 1. Hughes 2. Kakko 3. Podkolzin 4. Dach 5. Cozens 6. Byram 7. Turcotte 8. Zegras 9. Boldy 10. Broberg 11. Soderstrom 12. Krebs 13. Kaliyev 14. Harley T15. York T15. Knight HM: Caufield, Heinola Bits of Kakko vs Hughes: Some other interesting things I picked out from Bob's article:
  10. It would take a team that really likes/believes in Demko to pay a premium for him right now. I don't think the value would be there to make it worthwhile RN.
  11. So if Rittich/Smith let Calgary down this year & next. And they are interested in Markstrom, why wouldn't they make a trade for him before the ED & protect him? Same goes for Edmonton? These team's don't have a great goalie to protect. And my important question is, what team is going to pay a premium for Thatcher Demko right now? Seriously? Which team? I don't see a Thatcher Demko trade being realistic this offseason, unless your just trading him for the sake of trading him. You could trade Markstrom, but then you don't have a starting goalie.
  12. Is the value going to be really that much worse? Any team that acquires Demko right now is going to have the same problem down the road with the ED. Plus he's not proven, if he has a great year his value will be higher then it is now. And if Markstrom has another good year, then we decide to trade him, any team that sees him as an upgrade on what they have will be interested to get him & protect him. If not they'll have the same problem too. The goaltending market in general hasn't been great. A team would really have to like Thatcher Demko to give up significant value for him right now. Same with Markstrom to a degree although I'm sure there'd be more interest. Still don't think your getting a 1st for him though. This expansion draft isn't going to go down the same way the Vegas one did. I don't see why teams wouldn't look at a situation like ours & take advantage of it to improve rather than just allowing only the expansion teams to capitalize on all those opportunities again.
  13. Prince Albert & Saskatoon game 1 on Sportnets 360 right now. Brett Leason and the Raiders vs Kirby Dach and the Blades.
  14. I've seen this elsewhere too. And I agree with it. I guess it depends where you think he falls between Point & Konecny. For me he's clearly a top 10 pick. I'd be happy getting Krebs.
  15. Botch has decent points, I appreciate his insight & agree with things he says absolutely. Its just every take being based only on analytics gets a bit tiring. Like Motte is a decent 4th line guy who gets ragged on for no great reason. He has more goals than Goldobin as a 4th liner, yet I've had to hear PP/60 arguments for why Goldobin should be spoonfed minutes with Pettersson. Earlier in the year he was on about how Tanev/Edler aren't good & could be replaced by Hutton/Stecher (when they were logging 25+ in Edler/Tanev's absence). Now Hutton actually isn't that good & everyone else was overrating him this whole time. And Dubas is amazing, the Nylander contract was great, yada yada... (except he's never had the production worthy of that contract, even when he was playing well.)
  16. Yeah he thinks its some great thing. Maybe at first it had some pop to it, now its just annoying & overdone. But if you mention it to him on Twitter he'll probably block you. Lol
  17. Yeah I'm convinced he still wants to play. If he doesn't what Burke laid out will likely be the case. But I don't think Lu is going down without a fight. Even if they sign Bob it would be cool to have Lu as the 2nd goalie. Don't have to burn either guy out like they have the last few years with Luongo. I know its alot of money to spend on goaltending but if the Panthers are dead set on kicking Luongo out the door it will be tricky to do it & not look terrible. Would love to see Lu go somewhere else like MTL to end his career, but he's made it clear he doesn't wanna leave FLA.
  18. Agree with you both. I think its more posturing than reality too, but they should still plan for it being a possibility. The Leafs have got themselves into a bad spot trying to re-sign Marner & Matthews. Circumstance is maybe different but we can't run into the same problem with our young core.
  19. Yup agree 100%. ED is definitely a concern. But we have some time, might aswell use it.
  20. The problem with trading Markstrom is goalies are voodoo. I really like Demko alot but he's not ready to be a starter yet. He's no guarantee to even be a great starter. But throwing him to the wolves won't help his development. I like Dipietro alot too for that matter, but he's far from a guarantee also. Its been a tough year for Demko, he hasn't played alot at any level. I'd hold off another year & see where Demko is at. Then make a decision. Goalies historically don't have huge value anyways. Schneider & Andersen got great returns but Markstrom is alot older than those guys. I wouldn't expect trading Markstrom to bring back a massive haul. And trading Demko while he's unproven certainly wouldn't. If Demko shows next year that he can be the starter then you can trade Markstrom & get something good. If not then its decision time, whether you go with proven Marky & get less back for Demko, or take a chance on the younger goalie.
  21. Yeah that's inarguable. I don't even know if Kootney won 15 games this year. Perhaps I was undercutting his skating ability, I guess I mean he doesn't have the Hughes/Zegras type speed but most these guys don't. The comparison's I've seen are Konecny & Point. Now Point played on a better team but had 30+ goals & 90+ points in his draft year. I don't think Krebs will be as good as Point is RN, but he could be better than Konecny. Although out of the 3rd he might be 3rd in terms of shot/goal scoring. Its just hard to evaluate him being on such a poor team. But I don't doubt he'll be atleast a solid 2nd line player. I've seen alot of people (like you) that think highly of his upside.
  22. I like Don Taylor, but Moj doesn't even pay attention most of the time. So much pointless crap. DTMZ? Who cares. Birthday's? Who Cares. I do get a kick out of Taylor ribbing Moj when he embarrasses himself, but its the weak link on 1040. Moj needs get his &^%$ together. You make some good points, 1040 got super defensive when Friedman said that. Especially Botchford. But its true, they've been the staple in Vancouver sports media for awhile & carried alot of the negativity. Now I agree more with the Benning criticism personally, but the Luongo was always so underappreciated. I hated how he always took the blame for everything from fans & media.
  23. I listen to the 650 postgame show now instead of 1040. With Kenward as the host its obvs alot less critical of the Canucks (sometimes just, sometimes not) but I prefer listening to Alex Auld then Blake Price, so that tips it for me. Really thought 650 missed an opportunity when they were going against Pratt in the morning. Shoulda got rid of C-Bull. 1040 is still way ahead. The cuts came from Toronto IIRC. Don't think 1040 is on the brink or anything. Originally I wished 1040 put Donnie & Moj in the morning instead of H&B. But now I just download the H&B podcast's. I can listen to the whole show while I work (usually start around 7-8), I can pause, don't get the commercials, get to hear the full show and I'm always ahead so the next hour is ready to be downloaded. Its working out alot better than I thought. Plus it takes up most of my route so I don't have to listen to Donnie & Moj at all. And not a Botchford fan but I do enjoy having the hour dedicated to hardcore Canucks talk, so I'm happy they have it twice a week now.
  24. Seems like FLA is trying to push Luongo out the door. Getting the TO media to write these pieces that Luongo might be done. I don't think Luongo wants to stop playing. Don't think the Canucks will face the recapture, I'm not worried about that. I just hope the Panthers & Luongo can work something out so he can still play if he wants.
  25. Yeah these would all be great picks. Krebs on a better WHL team would look better. His physical skills don't blow you away but with that IQ & character, there's just something about him. Don't think Boldy is as much of a play driver as Krebs but more size. He'd be a nice complimentary piece to Horvat or Pettersson & Boeser. Soderstrom is more like Anton Stralman IMO. Full package TWD really. Had Heinola ahead of him originally but Soderstrom has more of a physical edge & is probably more polished.
