  1. Embarassing that fan noise escalated it to this point. Benning Derangement Syndrome is real amongst the fanbase.
  2. And the 'need to rebuild' criticism isn't even a plan, it's BDS whining. What's the plan? Add a bunch of draft picks, be bad for awhile? Fine but that's 5-10 years & the end of Pettersson/Hughes as the core. There was a criticism of Benning that he often resorted hope as a plan, well tearing it all down is basically the definition of hope as a plan.
  3. My point is the premise is flawed. If your teams needs a 5+ year rebuild then Hughes contract doesn't line up with that timeline. After 4 years I don't see why he'd want to stay, and even if he does your looking at an 8 year deal for a 27-28 year old. And then how can you be sure Pettersson wants to stay through a bottoming out either? If your plan is going full rebuild I don't think your building around them, a full rebuild is throwing in the towel on them as the core. Maybe Pettersson could be here if he wants to stay b/c you can still sign him to an 8 year deal but Hughes would have to be a trade asset imo. (Demko too) If your plan is "build around Pettersson/Hughes" well that's management's plan too & it begins now. That doesn't mean panicky win now moves (like the OEL deal) but it doesn't mean intentionally bottoming out either.
  4. Agreed. 32 teams now & there's only so many good players in the league. To add a great player out of thin air is a grandslam.
  5. The Canucks have already been talking with other teams on Horvat, that's not speculation. Consider it sure but I don't think theres much there, the reality of his availability has been known for awhile.
  6. I've never seen someone excel at backdoor tap-ins like Kuzmenko.
  7. Everyone & their mother knew the Canucks were trading Horvat yesterday, it's not some new idea. This doesn't change anything imo
  8. Fair $$$ for both sides, and 2 years works great for us. Good signing.
  9. Imagine if Sakic had acted out of this fear & rushed to trade Duchene earlier.
  10. I forgot that Dallas had Bischel. He's younger than Harley that would be an interesting guy.
  11. Good proposal, Gurianov would be a nice roster player to roll the dice on imo. Harley is an intriguing piece as a potential middle pair D. Dellandrea doesn't have a ton of upside but fits a role/window. Only thing we are missing is a 1st, I'd be inclined to swap Dellandrea out (and maybe add something like a lesser pick/player) if possible.
  12. Do you not think this is their position aswell? It's been reported they would consider anything outside of Petey & Hughes. (Miller & OEL are untradeable so put them aside) I think there's an issue with the narrative of 'management quick fix V fans rebuild'. The problem with this supposed scorched earth view is if your blowing it up then Hughes can't be an untouchable (only 4 yrs left) and if he's gone will Pettersson want to stay here long term? You might not be able to have your cake & eat it too, either you identify them as core pieces to build around & get at it (which I think is their position). Or you give up on them & go into a Chicago/Buffalo/Arizona level rebuild.
  13. Yeah I wouldn't buyout OEL. At this point he's lost the high end footspeed he had at his peak but he's still smart, skilled & strong enough along the wall to help the team. I think when your team is playing a chaotic game it plays into that weakness, having some structure should help him. He's always going to be inefficient but he can be a useful T4D imo. Looking at a buyout in the last year or 2 makes more sense than now. Myers has an always been an enigma of a player, at this point they need to move on as soon as they can. Hopefully thats a trade in the offseason but we'll see.
  14. I know it's Chicago but this philosophy is exactly what this team needs in maturation. I wasn't watching the game super closely, but from what I saw OEL looked good, and JT had a better game as a C. Good first step.
  15. Everything I've heard from Tocchet so far is in-line with what needs to improve. I'm excited to see what he's able to do here & how certain guys respond.
  16. Horvat/Kuzmenko/Schenn decisions will all be made. Likely 2 of the 3 being gone, thinking Horvat & Schenn. We'll see if anything else comes but I agree the rest of this year is going to be an evaluation period then hopefully they will have more flexibility in the offseason to make changes.
  17. Talk about a wealth of knowledge & experience with those 2. Kinda surreal having them as part of the Canucks org tbh, as a kid I used to always trade for Gonchar in the EA NHL games & of course Foote was apart of those rival Avs teams.
