2019 NHL Entry Draft in Vancouver, BC
Smashian Kassian replied to Qwags's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
Mostly IQ & then skating, also not as good offensively. The big knock on Kokkonen is his skating. I think Heinola's IQ is better & that Heinola is more a rounded player ATM. He's played more minutes on a better team in the Ligga, better PPG, & played top pair in the U20 which is impressive for a draft eligible D. Admittedly I'm not as famillar with Kokkonen, but from what I've gathered I dont think his upside is as good as VH. Edit: I see Heinola as top 10-15 & Kokkonen as late first round -
Has there been any update on how Juolevi is doing? Underwent successful surgery? Skating in Finland? Seems like he's disappeared since the news broke that his season was over.

Sleeping on Ville Heinola IMO. Playing significant minutes in the Ligga this year. Has more points as a draft eligible than Heiskanen did. Plays like a Heiskanen-lite from what ive gathered. I got Heinola as the #2 D with Soderstrom right behind him. -

As of right now we are most likely to pick 8 or 9. And 8 is the highest we can pick if we don't win a lottery spot. Before that we were more in that 6/7 spot. Obviously that can still change, but our schedule is fairly easy here on out. Not inconceivable we could win more games than we lose here on out & be looking at a 9-10 pick. -

Went to see the Giants play last night, seemed like Byram was on for half the game. Love his poise with the puck. With this latest winning streak we might be falling out of position to get him though :/ -

I'm debating between Soderstrom/Heinola as the 2nd best D. Do you know what Soderstrom's skating is like? Seems like a solid TWD. -

Heinola or Caufield could be targets at our pick if we continue this surge. Or maybe Krebs falls a bit. -
I agree completely on Goldobin & Baer. Its really too bad for Baertschi, right as he's starting to come into his own as a legit top 6 NHL player too. He's got a family now, I wonder what his next move will be. He's got alot more to worry about than hockey, wouldn't be surprised if he doesnt play again. But hopefully he's able to get back & stay healthy, the team needs him for sure.
-
I don't think they're the same kind of player. Age comparison is okay, but I don't think Goldy will ever be as good defensively or along the boards. Baertschi's more of an opportunistic offensive player. Plays a reliable 200ft game then jumps into holes & makes plays quickly. Goldy's effectiveness comes with the puck on his stick. In junior I thought Goldy could be a guy who drives offense himself in the NHL, but that hasn't been the case. He was good feeding off Pettersson, but hasn't been able to replicate that with Horvat or Gaudette. I'll never forget when he dangled/embarrassed Doughty & scored. But he's not talented enough to do that night in & night out. At this point he's a depth offensive player to me, like a Spooner or Gagner type. Which is fine to bring back if there are no other options but I wonder if Green is running out of patience with Goldy.
-
Ya man! I haven't seen Pettersson live yet either so even if Quinn isn't playing Im stoked. Haven't been to a game since the Sedins last against ARI last season. Before that I don't even know, haven't been to too many the last few years. Super excited. CGC

I'm going to the Anaheim game on the 26th. Hopefully he's ready to play by then.

This is Goldy's 5th year playing pro hockey. He'll be 24 when the season starts next year. He's had his chances, its not like he was just drafted. So I don't know what Goldy has to do with future draft picks. Your preaching to the choir on Eriksson (I'd like to see him gone in the offseason) & to a lesser degree Virtanen. I see Virtanen as a potential trade chip this offseason. Your not wrong in saying Granlund & Eriksson haven't been great either, but they both have more goals than Goldobin. And their bottom 6 players. As of right now Granlund's future with this team is probably more stable than Goldobin. Granlund is a bottom 6/depth guy, he's fine in that role. The problem with Goldobin is simply he's an offensive player that doesn't produce enough. I like Goldbin, I've liked him since his draft year. I want him to succeed, but he's been given opportunity after opportunity & just hasn't been good enough. Unless we can find someone to replace him I'm not against bringing him back next year, but he needs to be better or he won't be in the NHL much longer. You can rag on Roussel all you want but he's been better than Goldobin in every aspect this year.

I don't understand people getting on Green about this. The guy has 2 goals & 4 points in 23 games since December. That's a 7g 14p pace over 82. Even including how he started the season, he's still only on pace for 9 goals & 35 points. If he's an offensive player he has to generate offense. He's been given ample opportunity. Every time he plays he starts with Horvat or Pettersson. The Canucks are one of the lowest scoring teams in the league, the door is wide open for him & he simply hasn't been good enough.

[Report] Canucks sign Jett Woo

Yeah I see him as a dark horse candidate to make the team next year too. He's had a great season. I love his game. Good thing for us he had some injuries last year, or we might not have gotten him where we did. -

\And he was cut from U-17 & U-18. I don't know why. He seems to have alot of talent. Fast skater, good puck handler, good IQ, solid shot, committed 200ft game. But the level of competition makes it tough. I imagine he'll be a 10-20 guy. But I wonder if Jost struggling will have any impact on how teams feel about drafting a guy from the BCHL that high. -

Its very timely/convenient to compare him to DeBrincat with how good AD's been this season, but in this case Caufield really does look like a DeBrincat clone. Thats his game. Guy just knows how to finish. -

I dont see how thats the case at all. Traded Luongo for Markstrom+ Traded Schneider for Horvat Gave up Diaz right away for a draft pick (Gaudette), rather than holding onto him for a playoff push. His drafting definitely set the organization back though. -

Where is everyone at with Alex Newhook? From what Ive seen he's considered a bit more talented than Jost. Top 15 guy? Where does he rate to you among forwards like Kaliyev, Lavoie, Caufield, Pelletier, & McMicheal? (amongst others) -

I think trading up is going to be difficult. Compounded by the fact we are rebuilding & don't have alot of assets. Assuming we pick 6-8 I like our options in that range. I said I have Dach/Byram/Turcotte completing the top 5, but its more than likely I'm totally wrong & atleast one of those guys is available. So then there's your choice. Otherwise you could still be looking at Cozens/Podkolzin/Boldy. -
That's awesome. Yeah I'm in the same boat. I drive a truck & do deliveries, I'm usually hitting the road between 8:30-9:30 & back like 2-3. The 9:00 start was awesome. The 10-2 slot would've been perfect. Gunna listening to Sat/Jawn more now or find some more podcasts. I figured 1410 was to put Giants/Whitecaps/Lions on when the Canucks were on 1040. Now that 650's come along & took the Nucks rights, 1410 definitely hasn't worked out.

I just can't listen to Dave Pratt say: "I got it" or " I get all that" when he really doesn't know anything about what he's talking about. The ridiculous take he had early in the year, about trading a '3rd round pick' for a goalie to 'give the kids a chance' was so bad it stuck with me all year. Especially since now he's been so heavily on the Markstrom bandwagon, up until his release. That's the one thing I'll give Botch alot of credit for, he did give it to Pratt for some of his brutal takes. And DT too would shut him down. I don't wish him losing his job, I'm sure he's a good guy. But I'm so glad I won't have to hear him tell us that he, "gets it", anymore. On the other hand, its too bad DT got the axe, he could always be counted on for solid analysis. -------------- Edit: Anyways so 1040 released this new lineup. And I think they are making a mistake putting Halford & Brough in the mornings. Their regular audience is going to be tuning in around 8 or 9. They are going to have to circle back to all their big talking points later in the show, and how are they going to expect alot of submissions for WWL unless they do it in the final hour, & probably towards the end too. Should put Donnie & Moj in the mornings.
-
Yeah Jpat was average to me before but now I like him alot. I think he does his job well. I appreciate that he tries to ask questions fans want to know. And I think his analysis on the team day-by-day is pretty spot on most of the time. I've soured on Botchford alot over the course of this year. I appreciate his work, he does have an inside track & provides some interesting info. And I'm in total agreement when it pertains to the direction of this team, and how this management group hasn't been pro-active. He makes good points on that front. But when it comes to player analysis he drives me crazy alot of the time. Everything with him is advanced stats. I get there's a huge place for it, but literally every take he has on a player is based solely on analytics. Like recently crapping on Tyler Motte for example. If we are going to ignore how often that Beagle line starts in the Dzone, & say Motte's out-chanced by a large margin - therefore he's not a good player. Then I don't want to hear anymore P/P60 arguments about how Goldobin should be given more chances to be carried by Pettersson. Because Tyler Motte & Loui Eriksson both have more goals than him playing mostly on the 4th line/bottom 6. I like Halford & Brough's show the most of either station. As a Canucks fan I especially relate to Brough. And I generally think they bring pretty balanced analysis which I like. And the intro's are great.
