The comment was bang on, I've been in Rogers Arena & can confirm there's no banner. ;P Seriously tho I don't think this was deflecting, the psychological effect of our team never having won is a real thing in this market. It's something Mike Gillis used to mention alot aswell. Rutherford encountered it first hand on D&D when Don's follow-up to a Rutherford's response was something like "how about 50 years & no cup Jim?". I agree with Boudrias I want a management group that know what it takes (they do) & is committed to building a true cup contending culture. They blundered this situation very badly, perhaps for some reasons out of their control, but Bruce wasn't the right guy going forward.

Yes I agree. Not to say Bruce doesn't have a stern side but his bread & butter is utilizing his social skills to motivate. With a young & historically dysfunctional franchise like this they really needed the structure/details guy once that magic ran out as you say. With a veteran team that holds themselves to account (say when he was in ANA) maybe he's a better fit. I've lost hope for Rathbone sadly, I think they should've tried to use him as a trade chip now he's kind of slipping in time. Hogz/Podz I'd like to see at some point before the end of the year but for now keep em down until we see how things go under Tocchet. Once Rutherford confirmed they were seeking other options it went over the last cliff, never seen that before in my life. At the very least they could've just denied it & saved Bruce the embarrassment of it being a publicly confirmed dead man walking (not just speculated). As for the concern they won't want to change much, I'm not worried about that at all. Everything they've said is that it needs an overhaul & Rutherford's history is a bias for making moves. It'll just be what they can do with cap restraints/the market, not willingness imo.

I think the problem is Rutherford being too blunt in his assessments over the year, and not being careful enough in how he says things. You'll get away with that in Carolina (even PIT to some extent) but in Vancouver its gasoline on a fire. When your so openly critical of the current coach that's going to drive speculation. Working to get a new coach in place isn't unusual but once it gets out (and your admitting to it, insanely) it's a difficult position to be in. At that point they probably should've put Yeo in on an interim role, tho in a perverse way I do wonder if Bruce appreciated the send off more than it would've been going quietly. Idk, it was hard either way. It seems like they kind of know (to some extent) that they messed up in the messaging throughout given Rutherford said he's not going to speak anymore, and I think it's unfortunate as I really enjoy Rutherford's honesty & bluntness in a sport full of stock answers. Especially at that position.

Tocchet talked a good game. Management has harped on the lack of structure & detail with this team, we'll see if he can deliver on that. It's clear that Bruce simply wasn't a fit for how Rutherford & Allvin envision this thing improving. And I think their analysis on what needs to happen has been correct.

Miller drives the Canucks PP. Prior to this season Horvat has been a 60 point player once. Miller has played badly at C this year but has been better in the past. Horvat is clearly better at faceoffs & losing that prowess will hurt, but Horvat isn't a level Selke defensive player himself. Even if Miller is just a PPG winger that drives the PP 8M is fair right now & will be fine as the cap increases. If Horvat is a 25 goal 50-60 point 2C who isn't good on the PK then 8M will be bad right away. Edit: I personally like Horvat more & am sad he's leaving, but Miller has clearly been the better player since arriving to Vancouver. This year is the only time Horvat has been better.

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks

I think it has to be Wright if its Seattle, I like Ryker Evans but does that & a first really move the needle enough to trade him to a division rival? Idk. -
Edit- Rick Tocchet Expected To Be Next Head Coach
Smashian Kassian replied to BertaNuck's topic in Canucks Talk
The way they've treated Bruce in all this is absolutely disgraceful & beyond unprofessional. What happens on the ice is what it is, but it's hard to be a supporter of this organization when you see them treating great people so badly. This franchise is a full on dumpster fire right now & deserves to be carved over this. -

Trading him to Seattle would suck, it would have to be an amazing deal. -
[Official] Canucks announce skate jerseys as official 3rd jersey

The black logo could be fine (I do prefer the white), but the striping & the font change make it worse imo. I enjoyed the look of the OG skate jerseys they wore last year more. -

Original skate >>>>> This looks like one of those cheap children's jerseys that have a fake design with the legit logo. Amazing how they manage to blunder on such an easy layup -
Its such a trainwreck. I dont see the way out other than a hard reset. Blowing it up might work eventually, but your flushing 5 years minimum & banking on hope (which isn't ever a great plan, as we are seeing). Continue to lose so we can get Fantilli or Carlsson, bring in a new coach who prioritizes structure, and try to renovate the roster as much as we can.
