[Report] Canucks recall Lane Pederson
Smashian Kassian replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Guys been a beast in Abby, worth a shot if this is indeed an audition (rather than just collecting an NHL cheque). -
Thanks for confirming I'm a Musk fan, I'm now going to get a Musk tattoo on the opposite cheek from my Trump Tattoo so that they can stare happily at each other. I was steel-manning his perspective. I never said you can't still believe he's full of crap. That's your right & I'm not interested in changing your mind. Is the license plate enough data for you to know who's owns the car or where they are in real time? If not it doesn't seem to be the same, as the real-time tracking is the big thing. Why even defending this incident? Again I don't understand strategically how this makes any sense. I'm not a fan of Trudeau for example but I wouldn't advocate or defend this happening to him/his family. And I'm pretty sure the flight was within the US (based on a screen grab I saw of the original Sweeny tweet), but I could be wrong if you have more information?
-
I posted a tweet elsewhere in this thread but Elon had applied for some kind of protection against his private jet, therefore making it illegal apparently. I'm not trying to say anyone shouldn't have a negative opinion of Elon. So I'll ask again, how does it make sense strategically (from the Anti-Elon POV) for anyone to do this? From what I understand - I haven't done a deep dive - the Mastadon Twitter account was one of the first ones posting this on Twitter (either the information itself or that it was on Mastadon) & therefore one of the first ones Twitter banned in this ordeal. I know Mastadon wasn't well know before EM took over (I had no clue about it) but that seems to be the site most Anti-Elon folks are choosing as an alternative so it makes sense from that perspective. I've struggled to make sense of this strategically, but you make a good point about the Streisand effect & maybe that was the strategy here. Keith Olbermann seems quite happy to be a Martyr so... I dunno.
-
This a total non-sequitur, but that's completely fine. I'm not trying to argue against your (or anyone's) opinion of Elon, just steelmanning his rationale here. He could be both a hypocritical right winger & interested in the safety of his family. What I don't understand is strategically how this made sense for the people/person doing it. In regards to your last point (and many are saying it on Twitter too) I did come across this;
-
Okay that's totally fair enough. And even in the social media square I'm pretty sure the amplification of this information actually started on Mastadon not Twitter. But anyways that's US law, were not talking about a lawsuit were talking about how information is handled on Twitter, in which case they have policies against doxxing. Agree or disagree it is a private company & the owner is a big target right now.
-
I think they're plan has always been to sign him, even if it means trading a different winger, but this could be a tricky situation. Points wise he's on a massive pace, but I don't think he's been a true offensive driver by any stretch. If it's between 4-6M I think they'll do it, but if he gets 70+ points things could become complicated.
-
I don't know how you know this. And comparing Tesla having data (privately mind you, unless u know how to access it) on their products to people on twitter doxxing is a definite stretch. I gave my thought quite clearly. Elon is one of the biggest targets in the world right now, if someone tried to stop a car his kid was travelling in then this is a rational move for any parent. It's nothing to do with whether you like/hate Elon. Again I'll go the other way, how did this even make sense strategically for people who hate Elon? What does this accomplish even in the best case? How is the state going to stop these people/accounts from sharing information on Twitter with anywhere close to the speed the platform can via ban/suspension?
-
I saw Elon tweet out the other day that people tried to stop a car his son was in because whomever it was thought Elon was in it. Any rational person at that point is going to be willing to take any further measures to protect their children. I know there's some debate as to the validity of the doxxing allegation itself on Elon's part. I haven't looked on Twitter much but the one thing I did see was a screenshot of Keith Olbermann quote tweeting one of the other suspended accounts that had information on Elon's flights/location & encouraging others to spread the information. I gotta be honest, even if you hate Elon vehemetly I don't understand why anyone would do this in the first place unless they are a malevolent psycho, in which case maybe they should be banned. That's not an argument or engaging in discourse, that's intimidation of someone's person & I can't imagine the motivation for someone to follow through with that unless (from a mental standpoint) they're essentially no different from cultists. I can't imagine myself doing anything like this at the very least. Its puzzling strategically & morally.
-
Oh of course. It just seems to be few & far between because power corrupts. Its kind of why I'm less interested in centralized power than perhaps a more socialist minded person might be, despite being in agreement on most of these things - in a basic sense at the very least (I don't know for sure, but I assume so). edit: and I was just joking around too. I really enjoy being able to have respectful conversation and/or finding common ground with people I may seemingly 'disagree' with.

Well its like we talked about with Corporations - and I'm sure some probably do care but - it serves their interest as far as social status, right? The same thing can happen with people. There's often a basic human social need to be liked, and in a hyper politicized society there can be a social incentive to taking a certain position whether a person has even actually ever independently thought about the issue at all or not. And whatever said 'position' is can be different in different places, both physical (where you live/social group) or now online aswell, so I don't mean that to be a 'partisan' thing. And sometimes its even to the point of narratives regurgitated verbatim.
-
@StanleyCupOneDay And the other important thing is - whether its corporations or just usual people - using these causes for social status doesn't help the cause itself either. Some things are complex, or there just aren't easy answers, but rather than approaching it that way it often just devolves into some BS culture war thing instead.

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
Smashian Kassian replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yeah that's fair, I didn't realize he had over 40 games on his NHL resume & only 25. Maybe he could still be a solid depth/4th line guy at some point. -
See I'm not always that bad . No but seriously, it's totally true. If corporations like Nike, the NYT, or Nestle present themselves as though they care about progressive causes they'll never have to answer for things like sweat shops, apologizing for Stalin, or their environmental impact/stealing water (or any other company/example you can think). When it comes to some of this stuff I find keeping in mind 'people in positions of power are often driven by self interest' to be useful. I think this is definitely an area where I'm there with the more typical left 'socialist' thinking.

Insane how they paid next to nothing for Bear - with retention - AND got him as a throw in. Can't look past the value of a guy like that for a young AHL team. -

He's so grating. I have a weird love/hate thing where I almost want to like the guy, but he's just so insufferable most the time. Some humility would go a long way. I don't need to feel like I'm being lectured as if I know nothing about the sport everytime he talks.
