Sleeping on it isn't making this decision any better. Jersey retirement is for the most excellent & meaningful players in your organization's history, Luongo easily meets the criteria. Hes our greatest goalie ever, served as captain as a goalie(!), and he was sooo important to this franchise - which cannot be understated. Before like 2010/11/12 timeframe he was more popular/important than the Twins. I'm more disappointed in this than how the season is going, which is saying something.

I think Naslund meant alot to the Canucks. It was under his leadership the team emerged from the Messier darkness & became a consistently good team. That era brought in a ton of fans & raised the bar for the franchise. Naslund was also the best player in the world (or atleast neck/neck with Forsberg, or whomever) at his peak, won the first Pearson/Lindsey. Lack of playoff success really hurts Naslund - if they had gotten to the finals in 03 it might not be as debated. Though he also had a shorter run as the heart of the team than the Twins or Linden/Smyl. Anyways I think Luongo is a better comparable to Bure than Naslund regardless.

Fair enough Gretzky is admittedly a tough one on my part. Patrick Roy? Only 8 seasons in Colorado, no Vezina trophies. 2nd in Wins, Lu is 4th. Luongo played more games, higher career SV%, more shutouts. He barely played for the Islanders, its really 2 teams. Luongo's peak was as high as anyone we've ever had. He took the position to a level never before seen in Vancouver.

The difference to me is level of performence. Sedins, Luongo & Bure are HHOF players who had their best seasons in Vancouver - and lead the team to the most success we've ever had. Burrows was apart of that & was arguably just as popular a player but he wasn't a HHOF player. There's your example. And again I'd argue Luongo was throw overboard with great difficulty b/c he had already committed the rest of his career to us.

Couldnt disagree more. They strung him along for 2 years, after making a 10+ year commitment to him, and he still came back. A2D. When he came to Vancouver everything changed. Everything. The near 20 year goalie graveyard vanished. He took the position to heights we had never seen. Then on top of all the accolades he was one of the most popular Canucks ever, & he even served as captain. Not just a HHOFer - which, lets be honest, probably doesn't happen without coming to Vancouver - a FIRST BALLOT HHOFer. This is completely wrong & an embarrassing decision imo. I'm embarrassed they shortchanged him like this.

It's amazing how this happens literally every year & still no one is ever prepared.

From what she said in the D&D interview Cammi Granato did help her with her issues, and she also praised Rutherford extensively. She basically praised everyone in the front office except Castonguay. I don't know if it's fair to conclude the Canucks didn't help her, as in her legal document she said they had team medical staff working with her no? The one thing she said was she didn't have access to a therapist(?) in BC due to the health care system, which many are struggling with obviously.
