[Report] Canucks fire Rachel Doerrie

Your right, Don handled it like a pro. Rick asked a pretty blunt question & they gave her space to talk throughout. They did a good job with it & to her credit it couldn't have been easy. My main take away is this hire was just a mistake. -

We have a hockey game & a soap opera tomorrow! (For some reason I'm expecting a cringey trainwreck, but we'll see. Also expecting this to make some waves around the league, & if it does good for D&D). -

I agree with most of this but on its face it does make Castonguay look bad imo. Iain McIntyre made an interesting point this morning saying that people think Castonguay could be the 1st female GM ever & this could potentially be damaging to her reputation.. That said I tend to think there is much more to the story than Emilie just being vengeful for some unexplained reason. -

Obviously we don't have access to her contract, I've read things elsewhere that some sort of media policy is standard & off the top of my head when Ryan Biech was hired by the Canucks he went from a media personality regularly on radio/tweeting to no media appearances whatsoever & no tweets related to hockey. There's likely more to it since she continued to work after that, but it seems like going to HR to complain about Castonguay was the tipping point & the Canucks decided it wasn't worth having her around. Also forgot to mention originally, but the comparison to Mike Yeo is silly. Were talking about multi time head coach taking a front facing role compared to a behind the scenes role in the analytics staff. -

After combing through the whole thing I have some thoughts. First is I feel badly for her health. Whether shes right or wrong I know how difficult anxiety & panic attacks can be to deal with. I hope she's able to weather the storm shes going through & get to a better place in time. Reading between the lines; The comment by Castonguay regarding Dorrie's "mental health" struck me (knowing RD's past) as a comment on her maturity as much as anything, rather than an attack on someone with a "disability". These are very much select lines pulled out of a conversation. And I also don't see it as far as the characterization of her as "disabled" either. The detail omitted here seems to be (speculating) her breaking something in her contract regarding talking to the media, and the part of 'only having 24 hours' is kind of the tell. Now to be fair, is it possible there could've been a personal rift between the two & a caddy abuse of power by Castonguay? For sure. But this is also a carefully crafted narrative on her camp's part. And I don't think all the progressive buzzwords thrown in really help her case either. Ultimately it seems like she was in breach of a contract, maybe there was also a rift that pushed it over the edge (unfortunate if true) but I'm not buying the 'intentional discrimination' angle they are going for.
