Adding Giroux to play against Crosby seems like a good fit. Their previous rivalry would make it a more entertaining series.
They paid a ton to get him, so they weren't going to let him walk for nothing.
He hasn't been as good as Philly hoped (no one there has been) so there likely wasn't many trade fits without taking a significant loss.
But you could draft two good players as a result.
At the end of the day, it isn't a trade that moves the needle much in either direction. It's not a blatant loss like you make it out to be.
