I'm well aware, and I'm in no way advocating to abolish masks.
Just saying that in certain circumstances it does not make sense. Such as making an NHL coach wear a mask when the players don't.
The mask in that scenario is just for optics.
To CBJ: JG Pageau, Timothy Liljegren, Kristian Vesalainen, Erik Portillo, 2023 BOS 1st, 2023 MTL 2nd, 2023 BOS 5th
To BOS: Sergei Bobrovsky (4m ret. 2021/22, 3m ret. 2022/23) William Carrier, Mathieu Joseph
For that example, I'm saying it makes little sense to have coaches wear masks when the players don't. Coaches are subject to testing too, but they wear masks just for better PR.
It should make sense though.
Another example is making the NHL coaches wear a mask when none of the players are.
To be clear, I'm not advocating to get rid of masks. Just that some of the requirements give an illusion of care/safety, rather than actual protection.
Yep.
No mask required at a restaurant when sitting, but mask required when standing.
Or my favourite, closing off half of Walmart so everyone is confined to the same aisles.
It's all theatre.
It could, if for example a 1st is part of the return and we hit a home run with the pick. Or if we get a similar return to what Colorado got for Duchene.
Both scenarios are unlikely though.
Return will likely be a lesser roster player, good prospect, and a 1st.
The point is that is a silly argument to say Klimovich is objectively better simply because he's in the AHL. Why stop there? Can use that argument to say Klim is better than Beniers too.
If Arizona offered Guenther for Klim, the Canucks would take that deal in a heartbeat.
Obviously not.
If your basis for Klimovich being better is that he's currently in the AHL, when Guenther can't play there under league rules, then this is a hopeless argument.
If the Coyotes offered Guenther for Klimovich, the Canucks would take the deal and run.
The bias is showing with some of these.
The Bonino-Sutter trade was a clear loss.
Dahlen is better than Karlsson. Trading Burrows for a player that we flipped for less value shouldn't be considered a win.
Trades involving picks can't really be seen as a win/loss/draw based on who was drafted. If the other team had the pick, another player is likely chosen.
Many of these trades are insignificant. Only a small handful like Miller and Motte are clear wins.
I think this highlights just how bad our drafting and development has been over the years. So many picks amounted to nothing.
Personally I'd sub out McDavid for Draisaitl, and use the cap savings to bolster the depth.
But if you're wanting to get him and the other top names mentioned together, this is probably about as good as it would get (maybe just sub out Pod and Stanley for more established players).
The teams that are contenders and looking to add generally don't have much cap space.
Or if they do, a cap crunch is coming in the next year or two, so they wouldn't be able to afford a big salary player long term. Not unless that player was going to be part of their core, like Miller would for any team that were to acquire him.
