Roast the audience for their bad acting, their crazy outfits, political views - fair game. But surely not their medical condition! In that case, I agree that Will Smith had the right to be pissed off. But I also agree that he expressed it in an arguably even worse way - by immediately attacking somebody without letting that person get a chance to apologize. Instead of Will Smith immediately assaulting Chris Rock, had he first voiced out his displeasure about the joke (even, "get my wife's name out of your $#@ mouth"), he would have gotten the response that Chris Rock said, "but it's just a GI Jane joke", and at which point, he could have explained his protest even further - based on his apology, "MY wife's medical condition". I think Chris Rock would have stopped at that point. But as it is, Will Smith unfortunately chose violence to be his first response and that says a lot about him.

[Report] Canucks recall William Lockwood
Vinny in Vancouver replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Didn't JT Miller a few days ago say, "We need to have more Will"? Management clearly heard! -
Allvin said that the Canucks' pro scouts and analytics department were excited about him, but in Allvin's case, he looked at it as Dermott can play both left side and right side, is younger than Hamonic and helped clear some cap space. It's not exactly a ringing endorsement, but for what we paid for him, it's not bad, I suppose.

How did JR/PA do on TDL 2022? (10 being best, 1 being worst)
Vinny in Vancouver replied to HKSR's topic in Canucks Talk
I personally think that there should be an INC in the list of options as I believe the management team laid some groundwork for bigger deals this summer. This is like a midterm and the finals doesn't happen until the start of next season. If by the start of the season, we still have a team sorely lacking in the 2 things JR wants (skill and speed) and there's no cap space to get there, then we could consider this a Fail. -
How did JR/PA do on TDL 2022? (10 being best, 1 being worst)
Vinny in Vancouver replied to HKSR's topic in Canucks Talk
Well, JR already said he expects we will be contenders in 2024. I'm already planning the parade... -
I'm actually very nervous about that - is JR only good because of the draft luck Pittsburgh got? Crosby, Malkin, Fleury, Jordan Staal. That's 3 straight #1 overall followed by a #2 overall! So lucky that it happened with both Crosby and Malkin being franchise centers. His draft afterwards have not been good - Derrick Pouliot at number 8 overall for example. Just imagine if the Canucks managed to get even one of Crosby or Malkin let alone both of them. I'm expecting that the 2024 plan would involve the Canucks drafting Shane Wright and Connor Bedard.

If they had kept Motte, I would have said that they were gunning for the playoffs and hoping that now that the trade deadline is over, players will no longer be distracted and be able to focus again on playing well. But since they traded Motte, I really have no idea what the plan is. I'm hoping that at least the groundwork has been laid down for bigger deals during the summer. I guess we'll see... -
That's the billion dollar question. But imho, it can't start with comparing ourselves to bad franchises. Listen, I'm not trying to pick on you - I'm just tried of the never-ending X-year retool plan that we've been sold on for over 7 years now. Rutherford just said last month that the Canucks won't be competitive until 2024 because they have some good pieces. But then he said that the Canucks players are slow and not skilled enough and are only competitive because of great goaltending. If that's what the players really are, then we should expect to get low value during trades - for example, see the Motte return. He also said we need to clear cap space. With all those constraints, is 2024 realistic?

[Rumor] Pearson on the move?
Vinny in Vancouver replied to 48MPHSlapShot's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I read somewhere years ago that it's common for GM's to ask all players (or maybe the agents?) with NTC (and NMC?) which teams they would be willing to waive their NTC for when it's really close to the trade deadline. Personally, I think that seems disruptive as the player and his family now starts worrying. Has anyone heard this as well? -
[Rumour] Boeser On Block
Vinny in Vancouver replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
He has been terrible this season, that's for sure. Anybody trading for him is essentially hoping that they can turn him around - maybe pair him with a dynamic center? A team like Pittsburgh or Colorado perhaps?
