  1. Roast the audience for their bad acting, their crazy outfits, political views - fair game. But surely not their medical condition! In that case, I agree that Will Smith had the right to be pissed off. But I also agree that he expressed it in an arguably even worse way - by immediately attacking somebody without letting that person get a chance to apologize. Instead of Will Smith immediately assaulting Chris Rock, had he first voiced out his displeasure about the joke (even, "get my wife's name out of your $#@ mouth"), he would have gotten the response that Chris Rock said, "but it's just a GI Jane joke", and at which point, he could have explained his protest even further - based on his apology, "MY wife's medical condition". I think Chris Rock would have stopped at that point. But as it is, Will Smith unfortunately chose violence to be his first response and that says a lot about him.
  2. Maybe if a different Rock hosted the Oscars, there would have been no violence?
  3. Didn't JT Miller a few days ago say, "We need to have more Will"? Management clearly heard!
  4. Iirc, Vesey and Boyd were picked-up on waivers. Dermott is via a trade so the comparable is probably Josh Leivo who we got from the Leafs via a trade. Leivo turned out pretty good, imo.
  5. Allvin said that the Canucks' pro scouts and analytics department were excited about him, but in Allvin's case, he looked at it as Dermott can play both left side and right side, is younger than Hamonic and helped clear some cap space. It's not exactly a ringing endorsement, but for what we paid for him, it's not bad, I suppose.
  6. I hate these kinds of "news" that leads to people speculating the worst about others. If Seravalli's going to say something like this, provide more background to the story - for example, they hated him because of X. Otherwise, this is just as bad as gossiping, imo.
  7. I personally think that there should be an INC in the list of options as I believe the management team laid some groundwork for bigger deals this summer. This is like a midterm and the finals doesn't happen until the start of next season. If by the start of the season, we still have a team sorely lacking in the 2 things JR wants (skill and speed) and there's no cap space to get there, then we could consider this a Fail.
  8. Well, JR already said he expects we will be contenders in 2024. I'm already planning the parade...
  9. I'm actually very nervous about that - is JR only good because of the draft luck Pittsburgh got? Crosby, Malkin, Fleury, Jordan Staal. That's 3 straight #1 overall followed by a #2 overall! So lucky that it happened with both Crosby and Malkin being franchise centers. His draft afterwards have not been good - Derrick Pouliot at number 8 overall for example. Just imagine if the Canucks managed to get even one of Crosby or Malkin let alone both of them. I'm expecting that the 2024 plan would involve the Canucks drafting Shane Wright and Connor Bedard.
  10. Is there any chance that this is a nudge-nudge-wink-wink trade where we give the Rangers a player to help them now and in return, this summer, we trade with them as part of a much larger deal???
  11. If they had kept Motte, I would have said that they were gunning for the playoffs and hoping that now that the trade deadline is over, players will no longer be distracted and be able to focus again on playing well. But since they traded Motte, I really have no idea what the plan is. I'm hoping that at least the groundwork has been laid down for bigger deals during the summer. I guess we'll see...
  12. That's the billion dollar question. But imho, it can't start with comparing ourselves to bad franchises. Listen, I'm not trying to pick on you - I'm just tried of the never-ending X-year retool plan that we've been sold on for over 7 years now. Rutherford just said last month that the Canucks won't be competitive until 2024 because they have some good pieces. But then he said that the Canucks players are slow and not skilled enough and are only competitive because of great goaltending. If that's what the players really are, then we should expect to get low value during trades - for example, see the Motte return. He also said we need to clear cap space. With all those constraints, is 2024 realistic?
  13. Sure, pick those teams. I want the Canucks to be a franchise that does well consistently. I set my bar high.
  14. The Canucks have been here in forever. You could have picked other franchises to compare to, but you intentionally chose one of the worst under the pretext of "expansion cousins". Have some pride!
  15. Since the Sedins' last year, Aquilini has wanted to retool and not re-build - i.e., try to make the playoffs but not still build towards the future. So the only trades that are allowed are so-called "hockey trades". No big sales and no big buys.
  16. You mean the same expansion cousins that probably delivered the potentially fatal playoff wound just a mere few hours ago in OT to boot?
  17. I love Brad's hockey IQ. Even in Arizona, you could tell he was able to anticipate plays before they happen.
  18. I read somewhere years ago that it's common for GM's to ask all players (or maybe the agents?) with NTC (and NMC?) which teams they would be willing to waive their NTC for when it's really close to the trade deadline. Personally, I think that seems disruptive as the player and his family now starts worrying. Has anyone heard this as well?
  19. Should I be depressed with the Canucks if all I'm looking forward to are only 2 things: sacrificing the playoff push for the future during the trade deadline OR keeping the players and hoping that Dermott and maybe Sutter can help with the playoff push?
  20. He has been terrible this season, that's for sure. Anybody trading for him is essentially hoping that they can turn him around - maybe pair him with a dynamic center? A team like Pittsburgh or Colorado perhaps?
  21. Maybe it's time for management to acquiesce to the Canucks' players requests and bring up Lockwood from Abbotsford? I keep hearing his name being mentioned: "it's all about Will"; "we need to have Will"; etc.
